"Any Druin with a spear with more than one point has to die." said Seth
"Isn't that the Elite's and Gunners the most heavily armoured fanatics that would kill themselves to stop the enemy?" said Mongrel
"Yes, they are Mongrel, and we have to kill them all".
The pair moved though the oasis using what little cover they had to get closer to the enemies that could fire projectiles, that could damage the ship and take them out.
Mongrel moved through the lightly forested oasis. The Druin had flooded this oasis leaving little space to move between them.
The Druin were distracted by the war, lost in who they had lost, barely looking up from the ground their tears filled their eyes after the horrors they had seen.
Many people mourned the loved ones they lost; others celebrated the ones they reunited with. Everyone was preoccupied with their own lives and worlds, so much so that the two people moving between them went unnoticed. The only people that seemed aware of what was happening around them were Druin Gunners and Elites.
Seth looked across the oasis and on a small hill he saw two Druin Gunners, one on either side of the hill. The scales shone unlike the other low level Druin soldiers. They shimmered as the light danced across their scales, failing to reach their upper body, stopping above their waist but they were not less defended then the Druin with armour on their bodies. In fact their armour had been infused into their scales. The deep red of the skin under their scales contrasted spectacularly, enhancing each colour, their two horns darker grey then the Druin soldiers and in his hand he held a bident. Sharp on each side, glowing red, the thick shaft black as coal and thicker than the standard spear. The power that bident could create would damage any ship and blow a hole through the shields of regular human ground warriors.
Many Gunners and Elites has died in the war with humans for the outpost, most sacrificing their lives for others to escape. The only Druin Gunners and Elites that did survive the battle where the ones leading the civilians out from the outpost.
When Mongrel and Seth had their targets in their sight, they split up to take the two by surprise. They needed this to be quiet and quick.
Druin Gunner Razolath's POV
'The battle for the outpost had been long and hard. Many of my brothers scarified themselves for the ones who remain. I cannot understand how this happened. How did they get so deep into our outpost without us noticing? If we had noticed, would my soldiers, my brothers have survived? Would my family have survived? Did they survive? I have not seen them yet. Is my daughter here? My son? Will I ever see their faces again? The humans always take so much from us, I am so tired, my shield is worn out, all I have is my enhanced scales and my bident but that is almost out of power, and we cannot recharge them until the Tanri grows here. Leaving only attach and communicate to be able to be done, we cannot even make shelter until the Tanri grows once again.'
Razolath lookedout on his fellow Druin 'the horrors we had gone though all because of the small civilisation, who would have thought the small civilisation we encountered were so dangerous. I just hope we can survive this.' thought Razolath.
As Razolath looked out across the oasis where his people gathered, he scanned the horizon and saw a shadow moving close to his fellow Gunner, but before he could warn him, he saw a dagger plunged into his neck where his enhanced scales had been chipped by the guns of humans. His brother fell to the ground, the bident in his hands releasing a burst of energy as he fell to the ground. Laying on the ground dying his brother in arms reached his arms towards me right before he died.
The shadow moved towards him next. As he came out of the shadows he could see him now, he could see the features of the shadow now, he knew who this was this was one with the poison flowing through him, a scout the humans called him.
"Shit, they are here already, RUN!" yelled Razolath.
As he turned, he saw the gunner on the other side of the hill fall to another poisoned.
"Shit." said Razolath he slammed his bident on the ground releasing a communication signal to other Gunners and Elites, alerting them to the infiltration of the oasis by the enemy.
"RUN!" he screamed again through the communication channel at the top of his lungs before he ran away from his brothers that had already died.
'Shit, their eyes, their eyes, they are enjoying this.'he screamed to himself as he continued to run with the civilians.
"Stop running Razolath, turn and fight. We need to kill them all."
"Dad? You are alive."
"Help son, kill the enemy with me."
"I thought you were dead."
"And I thought you died honourably but here you are. Now fight and return to the Tanri when the light fades."
"Dad, we have to run. Other humans will be coming soon."
"So what if other humans come boy, you get in there and die with honour. I'll see you and your mother in the Tanri."
His father screamed before he ran towards the poisoned ones, who were killing Druin Gunners left and right. One was more powerful; this sword sliced right through the enhanced scales. The other shot at the Gunners until they fell finishing off the fallen Gunners with a knife through the chipped scales.
Razolath wanted to fight. He knew his job was to help the people of the Druin and get the civilians to survive no matter what. He was supposed to die to protect them, but how could he face them? The poisoned ones slaughtering Gunners.
'I cannot face those poisoned ones, I will not even slow them down. I must live for another day; I can help the civilians escape.'
He said to himself before turning around, taking one last look at his father Digthamaath. The strong elite, the strong Druin he had always looked up to who was holding his ground against the poisoned one. He was even pushing him back with his trident.
'Maybe dad can win this, I better help him, we may survive and be able to kill the poisoned ones' Razolath thought before suddenly the smaller poisoned one shot his dad in the head.
"NOOOO!" his lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud. The sand around his body floated as his body fell hitting the sand of the oasis. The poisoned one fired another bullet into his body.
Razolath turned and ran, tears welling up in his eyes. The last of his family members he knew was alive was killed in front of him.
"There is no hope left. These poisoned ones are monsters."
...
"Damn Seth that big one almost got ya" said Mongrel, putting another bullet into the dead Elite at his feet.
"Yea, did you see that Gunner run?"
"Never seen a Gunner run before, have ya"
"Na, never."
"They sure do scatter fast." said Mongrel.
"Enough for the ship to move."
"Almost time for the signal."
Seconds after Mongrel said that came a flash of light from under the ground. The pillar reached to the sky, scrapping the heavens, blinding both Seth and Mongrel before it receded.
The sand beneath their feet began to undulate and shift before the water in the middle of the oasis overflowed and bulged. Soon the ship had penetrated the ground and water and had appeared in the sky.
