"Statue of Lake God?"
Han Fei squatted by the bed, observing for a while. The statue had human-like facial features but was carved all over with fish scales, and patterns that rippled like water spread continuously on its back.
"Is this the Statue of Lake God the old lady talked about? But wasn't the statue supposed to have sunk into the lake with the orphan?" The lifeguard asked curiously. He was just about to get closer, but Han Fei stopped him.
"Don't touch it." Han Fei dismantled one leg of a wooden chair and gently tapped the statue with the stick.
Murky wastewater flowed out from the one-foot-tall statue, and a black insect with eight thin legs crawled out of its open mouth.
It was like a Water Spider, but much larger, and had face-like patterns on its belly, as if a drowning victim was screaming.
"Rebirth."
