Darel heard a few sharp curses from behind him. His party members were seasoned and hardened adventurers. They'd survived enough battles to know fear and how to push through it.
But now faced with the relentless onslaught of these unnatural grey creatures even they were starting to fray at the edges. They weren't wounded badly yet. But Darel could feel the creeping truth that it was only a matter of time.
They'd already fought more of the monsters than they could count. The attacks came out of nowhere from deeper in the forest where the light barely touched. The mist hadn't fully closed in on their position so they still had some visibility.
They could spot the creatures before they lunged but that hardly made it easier. Watching those pale and twisted creatures skulk forward through the haze was terrifying enough.
