Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Ruthless and Restless

It was another deadly dusted forsaken day or what appears to be night in the Wastelands, as the silence filled the air and small crackling sounds walked the lands. As the air that was thicken by fog a young boy walked along what seems to be a road. He looked like he was around fifteen years old, he walked in his dirty tattered high leather boots and clothes that had holes, and dirt which covered his entire body. He had grey colored eyes and dark black hair that had a slight ash color to it due to the cause of the dirt and the lack of washing. He wore a T-shirt and shorts as his legs were covered in cloths and wrapped in bandages; he also had bandages that were wrapped around his hands as he carried two buckets that had the letters 'F' and 'S' that was engraved on them as he walked. The 'F' stood for food and the 'S' meant supplies. He also carried an old worn out bag on his back that was patched with spare pieces of cloth to block the holes, he also carried a long stick that had a hook on one end and a long iron pole that was pointy on both ends. Alongside him walked a machine that resembles a dog, it had the head of a real dog and a body that looked like a crate, a glowing chest and mechanical legs.

They walked side by side doing their usual search that consist of collecting food and resources. While walking he heard something in a distance, he slowly placed down his buckets and hid behind a rusty vehicle that was turned on its side, he then slowly crawled closer to the noise while using anything in his surrounding for cover. When he was close enough he peered from his hiding spot and saw one of the creature's, one they called Tailors eating from the chest of someone. A man laid there lifeless pooled in blood with his eyes opened as they stared in the same direction of the boy. The creature was ripping the flesh from the man laying down as the tearing of skin from the man's body was heard along with the creature gashing down his flesh and the loud swallows.

The boy knelt remaining in place as the scene played before him, but he wasn't terrified, not in the slightest as he was used to the sight of monsters ripping limps from others. He slowly pulled his head away and stretched his hand to his back reaching for his iron pole, but as he did he heard a low sound behind him. He slowly turned his head trying not to make any sudden movements and when he could finally see behind him he felt something heavy within him as he saw the creature's prying stance, but he remained calm as he inhaled a sharp silent breath. He knew he had to do something and fast, he then decided to make one fast pull on the iron pole to hopefully defend himself. As he was pulling on the iron pole swiftly the creature saw him as it spotted sudden movements and wasted no time rushing towards the boy. The creature rushed towards the boy and the only thing he managed to do was to place the iron pole over his chest as the creature made impact sending him off his feet. He rolled across the ground as the world was turning before his eyes, he then managed to stick the pole into the ground stopping himself from moving any further. The Tailor wasted no time charging towards the boy once more, but then it felt something snapping on its leg. The boy looked up and realized it was his dog, the creature hardly felt the pain and swung its leg as the mechanical looking dog was sent crashing into one of the vehicles that rested in the distance.

"Iron 99!" the boy screamed in panic as he looked in the direction and only received a low bark for a response. With one second of distraction he failed to notice the creature above him as its saliva mixed with blood dripped onto his ear running down his shoulder and the stench of the creature's breath that followed as it breathed. With quick thinking and swift movements once more he pushed the pole upwards stabbing the creature into it's upper throat and it released a loud howl from the pain, within the same moments the Tailor once again attacked him, he managed to dodged it's powerful swing, but it was obvious that he was a bit slow. When it came to close range dodging he always found it difficult, but from a distant his abilities were well polished. He was left with nothing in his hands as the pole got caught within the creature's thick skin. While he stood there trying to formulate a plan he was attacked once more, he managed to dodge the attacks from both of the creatures, he was feeling the anderline picking up in his body at first, but now he was feeling slightly panicked or possibly fear as he started breathing heavily. He was about to be attacked again and he was ready to deflect the attacks, but as the creatures charged towards him someone appeared and slammed both creatures to the ground denting the ground inwards. Their insides went splashing in all directions, the boy managed to maintain his stance as he cover his face kneeling over slightly to the ground trying not to be blown away as some of the creatures guts splashed onto him. He then slowly moved his hands away from his face and saw a man kneeling on the ground with the pressed in Tailors beneath a Robotic arm. The man's hand then went back to normal as he flashed the creature's blood from his hand. The man then stood up and their eyes meant, when the boy realized who it was he felt relieved and stared standing.

"Restless, it's you. Thanks for that", the boy said relieved as he stood straightening up on both legs.

The man called Restless walked over to the boy looking him up and down before using his hand and gave the boy a light but painful chop on is head. The boy held his head as he felt the pain dancing on his scalp as held in his cries from the pain and bent to the ground. The man only stood there for a few seconds and then spoke.

"I guess my words always go over your head Lynx" Restless said adding pressure to the boy's name while dragging it and looked at Lynx with his sharp eyes. Lynx lifted his head to meet Restless's cold, sharp looking eyes, but to Lynx Restless's eyes always looked the same, they neither appeared cold nor intimidating, Lynx found his gaze as caring.

"No, no that's not it. This time was different" Lynx said with one hand still on his head as he was still trying to rub the pain away.

"Oh really?" Restless questioned plainly obviously not interested.

"Yes, I was trying to retrieve the battery from the thing over there" Lynx said pointing in the direction. "I was being careful honestly, but then a Tailor came from behind and-" Lynx paused as something swept cross his mind.

"Wait Iron 99", he said as his eyes widen making sharp turns with his head. Restless then told Lynx to calm down and showed him that Iron 99 was strapped to his back.

"I switched him off, he wouldn't stop barking" Restless said untying the animal and handed it to Lynx. Lynx exhaled sharply feeling at ease and switched on the animal.

"You shouldn't switch him off, it's kinda the same as being dead you know" Lynx said calmly and Restless nodded while making a humming sound with understandment. Lynx switched on the animal and when it saw Lynx it started licking his face and barking which made Lynx chuckle.

"Watch this" Lynx said and then placed a finger to his lips "Shhh" and the dog went silent. Restless only stood there observing them when he heard a sound in the distance.

"We should get moving" Restless suggested looking in the direction.

"Oh wait, I wanna retrieve the battery first" Lynx said looking up at Restless.

"Battery? Did my brother put you up to this?" Restless question in which Lynx responded saying no while waving his free hand. "You shouldn't risk your life for his games, you're not like us you know" Restless said while resting a hand on Lynx's head, Lynx only looked to the ground.

" I know, but still I want to get the battery" Lynx responded as he looked into Restless's eyes now. Restless only sighed as he knew he could not stop him. They both carefully made their way to the vehicle that Lynx saw earlier, when they reached Restless kept a look out while Lynx worked on retrieving the battery from the vehicle. Lynx placed the battery in his bag and carried his dog, and Restless carried the buckets that Lynx had earlier . After about two hours of walking they finally reached an area that had collapsed buildings laying on each other. They walked over to the buildings and entered, they passed the dim lights that luminated the passage way, soon they reached an opening area where few men were standing and sitting around while talking. As Lynx and Restless passed by they went quiet. Soon a man came from another area laughing with two others by his side, Lynx and the man made eye contact and Lynx immediately stiffened his pose as the man made his way to him, Lynx knew exactly what was about to happen, but he was prepared as he swallowed hard.

"Here he comes" Lynx said as he stood firmly.

"I feel sorry for you" Restless whispered to himself looking over at Lynx.

The man walked over to Lynx with a serious gaze, everyone stopped what they were doing and watched closely at what was about to take place as they were curious. The air was heavy as the man drew close to Lynx and everyone awaited his next move. They wondered if the boy had done something wrong and was about to be punished and knowing the man before them they were sure that the little boy was about to receive some heavy hits or death, but the man's next move surprised them all. The man started hitting Lynx in the back in a friendly way and gave a hearty laugh. The man was tall, muscularly built, had a scar that ran from his right ear to his chin and another one that was much larger as it ran from his shoulder to his palm. The man kept on slapping Lynx as Lynx did his best trying not to fall over.

"Lynx!" the man called out merrily. "How are you?, what brings you here?, you need something? Did something happen?" the man asked continuously not giving a chance for a response as he kept hitting Lynx.

"I'm fine Ruthless, everything is fine. I brought something for you" Lynx said as he fought against the pain. He should be use to the greeting from Ruthless by now, but Ruthless's hands were much too heavy for his boney back. Ruthless was sure he was being gentle, but to Lynx it was still too much. Lynx didn't mind though as it was Ruthless and he knew he didn't mean to and that he was doing his best to be gentle, but still it was painful, but it was a pain he did not mind receiving. Lynx then explained that he found a battery which made Ruthless even happier.

"You see this boys, this is the reason he's my other half. If anyone so dares to touch him one day I'll kill them" Ruthless said with a threatening voice that sent shivers down everyone's spine, but then he went back to laughing right after. They then walked down a few stairs and reached an arena looking area that was dark. Lynx then walked to the side and placed the battery in a machine he developed and the lights in the room started flickering and brightening. Everyone was in awe, but for those who already knew of Lynx's capabilities weren't as surprised as the others. They cheered and was ready to begin their games which consisted of arm wrestling, other fights and challenges. Everyone took their places and started betting, they mostly did the matches as a way for exchange and trade. Ruthless called his base RR or Raven, he was the leader and a very strong and powerful one at that and almost no one dared to attack his base or make an enemy of them. Restless was his twin brother and his job was mostly to go on undercover missions, he was mostly a spy and was as much as strong as his brother. Restless had long messy black hair that was wrapped by a wire, he had green eyes and always looked serious and distant, unlike his brother Ruthless who always looked happy and laughing about and looked much easier to approach. Restless would appear and then he vanish afterwards, he walked silently, very undetectable. Ruthless and Restless were twin brothers who would do anything to protect each other, they didn't look identical, but their resemblances showed. Lynx was finishing setting up the lights as Ruthless and Restless looked down on him from a higher ground.

"He's definitely going to get there one day" Ruthless said with his eyes on Lynx.

"I agree. But I think you should try talking to Lynx about what he does. He's not like us you know" Restless said with concern looking at his brother.

"I understand your concern brother, but Lynx will always be the guy to seek answers, he's a curious one. I think he's well aware of his abilities and what he can't and can do, he's a wonderful kid" Ruthless said with praise as he smiled, but then his eyes sadden and Restless could understand the reason for his shift in emotion.

"Yeah he is" Restless agreed as he brought his attention back to Lynx who was now finished. Lynx saw them looking down at him and smile as he stood up and made his way towards them.
