Chapter 255 - Chapter 251:- Making A Difference

Later that day, the doors of the hospital swung open again, and Melissa was surprised to see Momo, Maki, Fuyumi, Rei, Kaina, and Eri walking in. They were carrying trays of food, bags of supplies, and warm smiles despite the grim atmosphere.

"We brought food for everyone," Momo announced, her voice filled with gentle confidence.

Eri followed closely behind, holding a smaller tray with her tiny hands. She looked up at the patients with wide, innocent eyes. "Can I help too?" she asked shyly.

Maki crouched beside Eri, her voice soft. "Of course, Eri. Let's serve this to the kids over there, okay?"

Eri nodded eagerly and followed Maki to a group of children sitting together. The girls spread out, each taking a section of the hospital to ensure everyone was cared for.

Fuyumi approached a mother holding her injured son, offering her a bowl of warm soup. "Here, this should help. Please let us know if you need anything else," she said kindly.

The mother's eyes filled with tears as she accepted the food. "Thank you," she whispered.

Rei gently helped an elderly man adjust his blanket, making sure he was comfortable. "You're safe now," she said, her voice soothing.

Kaina handed out food to a group of teenagers, her sharp eyes softening as she saw their grateful expressions. "Eat up," she said. "You'll need your strength to recover."

Melissa watched all of this in silence, her heart swelling with emotions she couldn't quite put into words. The warmth and kindness these women brought into the hospital were like a ray of light piercing through the darkness.

Izuku stood beside her, his gaze following the girls as they worked. "This is what it's all about," he said quietly. "Making sure these people feel cared for, that they know they're not alone, especially after what they have gone through."

Melissa looked up at him, her voice trembling. "You're right. Seeing this… seeing them… I understand now. These people needed to be saved. They needed hope. And I—" She choked on her words, tears streaming down her face. "I hate myself for not noticing. For not realizing what was happening right in front of me."

Izuku placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Melissa, no one's perfect. What matters is what you do now. You have the chance to make things right. To help rebuild what was broken."

Eri ran up to them, her face glowing with excitement. "Big brother! Big Brother! We gave food to everyone!" she said proudly. "Do you think they feel better now?"

Izuku knelt down, caressing Eri's head gently. "Yes, Eri. I think they'll feel a lot better because of you."

Eri grinned, her innocence shining through despite the heavy atmosphere. Melissa felt a spark of hope ignite in her heart. If a child like Eri could bring so much light to others, then she could find the strength to do the same.

Melissa took a deep breath, her heart heavy from the recent betrayal but her resolve only growing stronger. She turned to Izuku, her voice trembling but filled with determination.

"Izuku… I want to help," she said firmly. "I want to do something. I don't just want to stand here feeling guilty and useless. I want to prove to everyone—and to myself—that I'm not like him. That I can make a difference. And also prove that a human's worth is determined by the deeds they do and not by their birth or origin."

Izuku looked at her, his expression soft but serious. "Melissa, helping isn't easy. It's going to take strength, courage, and a lot of hard work. Are you sure you're ready for that?"

She nodded without hesitation. "I'm sure. I can't change what he's done, but I can fight to fix it. I can fight to make sure no one else suffers because of him. Please, Izuku, tell me how I can help."

Izuku smiled at her, a small, proud smile that made her feel like she was finally taking the right step forward. "You've already started, Melissa," he said gently. "By being here, by seeing this, by choosing to care—you're already making a difference. But if you want to do more, I'll guide you. I'll show you what you can do to help rebuild what was broken."

Melissa looked around the hospital, watching as Momo and the others continued to bring comfort and care to the patients. Her chest tightened with emotion as she saw Eri laughing with a group of children, her pure, innocent joy lighting up the room.

"What do I need to do?" Melissa asked, her voice steady despite the tears welling in her eyes. "I'll do anything, Izuku. Just tell me how to start."

Izuku placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, his eyes steady and reassuring. "Start small," he said gently. "Start by taking responsibility for what your dad did. Own up to his mistakes, even though they weren't yours.

It's your duty to ask for their forgiveness, cause they have been cursed for their lives. We don't know what kind of PTSD they would have, and we can't do anything else but try to comfort them.

We can't take their pain and suffering away, nor can we make them forget something like that, the least they deserve is proper care and a closure.

Talk to the people here. Listen to their stories and try to understand what they've been through. Be patient with them, even if they're upset or angry at you.

Some might take time to forgive, and some may vent their pain on you by verbally cursing you. Don't let that discourage you. Show them you truly want to help, not just act like you care.

It won't happen overnight, but once they see your sincerity, they'll understand. That's the first step—listening and learning. After that, we'll figure out how you can use your skills and knowledge to make a real difference."

Melissa clenched her fists, her heart pounding with determination. "I'll do it. I'll do whatever it takes."

Izuku smiled again, his voice warm. "I believe in you, Melissa. And you won't be doing this alone. We're all here for you."

Melissa nodded, her gaze drifting back to the patients. She took a deep breath, steadying herself, then walked over to a woman who sat by her injured daughter.

Melissa took a deep breath, her hands trembling slightly as she clenched them into fists. She looked around the room, watching the faces of the patients and survivors—people who had suffered so much because of her father's actions. Her heart ached with guilt and determination. She knew what she had to do.

She stepped forward, her voice shaking but loud enough to be heard. "Excuse me, everyone," she began, her gaze sweeping across the room. "I… I need to say something."

The room fell silent as all eyes turned to her. Some looked confused, others wary, and a few outright hostile. Melissa swallowed hard but forced herself to continue.

"My name is Melissa Shield," she said, her voice steady despite the tears welling in her eyes. "I'm the daughter of David Shield—the man responsible for everything that happened to you. The man who caused all this pain."

The room erupted into murmurs, some gasps of shock and anger, others whispering accusations. Melissa felt her chest tighten, but she stood her ground.

"I didn't know," she said, her voice trembling. "I didn't know what my father was doing behind my back. He kept it all hidden from me. But that doesn't change the fact that I carry his name, that I'm his daughter.

And for that, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry for all the misery you had to suffer because of my dad. I won't ask you to forgive my dad, even I won't forgive him for what he did, but as a human it is my duty to apologise for the pain and sufferings my family caused you."

Her tears began to fall freely now, but she didn't wipe them away. She let the people see her raw emotions. "I know some of you might hate me for being his daughter, and I understand. I wouldn't blame you if you can't forgive me.

My dad's actions' severity is something I'm not willing to defend. But I promise you, I'm not like him. I will do whatever it takes to make things right. I will help you come out of these nightmares in any way I can."

A man in the back of the room stood up, his face twisted with anger. "Shameless!" he shouted. "You have the audacity to show your face here after what your father did to us? To our children? To our families?"

Others joined in, their voices filled with anger and pain. "How do we know you're not just like him?" another woman cried. "How can we trust you?"

Melissa flinched, her body trembling under the weight of their words. She wanted to shrink back, but she stood firm, even as her heart raced with fear and guilt.

Izuku stepped forward then, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. His presence felt like a shield, and Melissa looked up at him with gratitude.

"Enough," Izuku said firmly, his emerald eyes scanning the crowd. His voice was calm but carried an undeniable authority. "I understand your pain, your anger. No one here can truly comprehend what you've been through except you. But punishing her for her father's actions isn't fair."

He took a step closer to the crowd, his voice steady. "Melissa didn't know what her father was doing. She was kept in the dark, just like many of you were. Announcing her connection to David Shield to the very people he hurt takes courage.

She didn't do this to brag or anything but to apologise. She didn't have to do this, she could have very well not revealed her origin and continued her life, but she chose not to because she wants to make things right.

That's not something a heartless person would do. And not to forget, if it wasn't Melissa helping me find the underground hideout, or used her authority to access the restricted area, many of you would be still locked up in your cages, dead or sent somewhere else.

Mind you, David shield was planning to transfer you somewhere else, if we hadn't infiltrated yesterday, you guys would probably be transported to some hidden location by now, causing the casualties to increase more than they are right now."

Izuku's gaze softened as he looked at the crowd. "I'm not asking you to forgive her right away. I'm just asking you to give her a chance, a chance to rectify her father's wrongs. See the sincerity in her actions.

Let her prove to you that she's different from her father. She's willing to face your anger, your pain, to help you in any way she can. That kind of determination deserves a chance."

The room grew quiet again, the anger subsiding into an uneasy silence.

Melissa took a shaky breath and stepped forward once more. "I'm sorry," she said again, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll spend the rest of my life trying to help you, to make up for what my father did. Even if you hate me, even if you never forgive me, I'll keep trying. I promise."

A few people in the crowd exchanged uncertain glances, while others still looked skeptical. But a woman near the front, holding a small child in her arms, spoke up. "We'll see," she said softly. "Actions speak louder than words."

Melissa nodded, her tears falling freely. "Thank you," she whispered.

Izuku squeezed her shoulder gently. "You're doing great," he said quietly, his voice filled with encouragement.

Melissa looked at him, her heart swelling with gratitude. She knew the road ahead wouldn't be easy, but for the first time, she felt like she had the strength to face it. Together, they would make a difference.
