Chapter 81 - The Path

The door behind Jeff opened as Lesley came out, having heard the scream.

"What's - shit!" Lesley swore as he instantly saw what was happening. Jeff was on the ground, holding Mel's head, trying to prevent the zombie from biting his head off.

"Help me! Please!" Jeff begged as he fought hard, using all his strength just to keep the zombie off him.

"Sorry." Lesley apologized as he moved to them, and grabbed Mel by the waist and tried to pull him off. "A little bit of help."

"I am god damn helping, incase you forgot, he's trying to eat me!" Jeff retorted and Lesley gritted his teeth and pulled!

It took some effort, but he got Mel off.

"Help me put him back in my room." Lesley said as he struggled to hold Mel from rushing back to feast on Jeff.

"What? Why should I?" Jeff demanded," I was only supposed to stay here till you woke up. Good morning and goodbye."

"Fucking asshole, he's stronger than me! If you walk away, he'll get away and start eating and infecting people. Now fucking help me!" Lesley couldn't believe this guy, what was wrong with him?

"Sigh...fine." Jeff reluctantly agreed and together they threw Mel back into the room, shutting it behind them." There, done. Now what?"

"You can go, I'll deal with this." Lesley said and Jeff gave him a once over. Lesley was skinnier than before and sickly pale, Jeff felt he seemed different.

" What? You want something?" Lesley raised a brow.

"No, it's just... nevermind." Jeff dusted himself off," I'm going to tell Mama you're awake."

"Don't, atleast not yet." Lesley raised his hand and the guy scowled.

"Kid, you are not the boss of me. Incase you forgot, I'm one of the guards that tried to stop you three from going to the shelters. And look what happened, should have listened."

"How's... Veranda?" Lesley put his hand down as he looked down," Is she alright?"

"Oh she's fine, you should thank your lucky stars. Mama V went crazy when she found out, ripped those bodies to pieces and...it wasn't pretty." Jeff shook his head sadly.

"They deserved it." Lesley replied sharply," They wanted to harvest my organs and leave me dead."

"Well, you stopped them, congrats." Jeff raised a brow," How did you do it? Organ scavengers like them usually bash a person unconscious so there ain't not screaming or calling for help."

"I... doesn't matter. I don't have to answer you." Lesley turned around to the door," Wait at least five minutes before telling Mama V, you owe me. I saved your life less than two minutes ago."

"I...ugh, fine. I need to sit down anyway. Oh, by the way, what was that...do you know what that light and things I saw earlier were ?" Lesley shrugged his shoulders.

"I only saw when he was trying to eat you, anything else I was still in the room and missed it."

"Hahaha...great. Then the only person who could prove I am not crazy didn't see anything. Just great." Jeff sat on a toppled oil barrel and looked glumly at the ground. Lesley opened his mouth but then jerked his head left and right, as if hearing something.

"Sorry. Just five minutes and you can do whatever." Lesley said and Jeff didn't reply, but the red haired teenager knew he heard him.

Lesley opened the door and went back inside the room, shutting the door behind him.

"Gahh." Mel moaned as he turned to Lesley.

Mel was pale, his skin was patchy like a fresh corpse and his other eye had seemingly dissolved, leaving a bloody empty eye socket. He looked just like he did when they first met, Lesley realised apprehensively. Lesley narrowed his eyes, tensing his body for a sudden dodge or counter, depending on what Mel did.

Mel walked towards him, gave a low groan and started to slowly claw the door, wanting to eat Jeff.

"Huh?" Lesley raised a brow as he looked at the zombie. A trick? Lesley wondered. If it was, it was very convincing, Mel was behaving like a typical zombie.

Except he's not attacking me, Lesley thought as he moved towards Mel.

[The zombie senses your [DEAD AURA] and has termed you kin]

"What?" Lesley's eyes grew wide as he looked around, searching for the source of the voice.

[The host's sanity meter has dropped]

[-2 sanity points.]

[The host is advised to calm down.]

"Who are you?" Lesley reached for something, anything! Liv and Lych were bad enough, but now he was hearing a new voice in his head. He picked up a spoon left over by Veranda and gripped it tight. An 'On hand' could be anything, he would kill whoever was here.

[-3 sanity points. The host is going through fear and mild hysteria.]

"I'm not hysterical!" Lesley shouted as he looked left and right.

[Warning! -5 Sanity points!]

[Seeking solution...]

[Bloodline Spirit awakening...]

[Spirit awakening complete!]

[Les, calm down. You are not in danger.]

"Huh? Wait...who are you?" Lesley turned every which way, but he was still alone, if you excluded the zombie.

[ I am the Spirit of the Primordial Phoenix Bloodline. Phix. We have met before in your soul space, along with Lych and Liv]

"What? I-" Lesley froze as he remembered everything that happened and the spoon dropped to the floor.

[ You remembered. Excellent. Now, sit on the bed and relax.]

Lesley sat down, his eyes wide and panicking as he replayed everything that happened yesterday. He had been kidnapped, butchered and his organs had been harvested from his body. Then he'd been brought back, becoming a... zombie and killing the kidnappers, then-

[You do not need to recollect. I was there with you.]

"You're the boy, who was me. Who told me...you asked me-"

[I merely presented you an opportunity. To help you achieve your goals. That is why you were chosen to posses the Primordial bloodline.]

"Wait. I...don't understand. So, everything that happened wasn't a dream?" Lesley asked, feeling weird talking to the air, luckily Mel was too focused on clawing the door to even hear. Not that he seemed coherent enough to even understand.

[No. It was no delirious imagining.]

"Then I'm crazy. Because I find this hard to believe." Lesley sighed softly.

[...]

"Why are you quiet? Hello?" Lesley frowned slightly.

[I was merely assessing the conversation to better help you understand. I believe I have found a solution for your lack of understanding.]

"What? Don't tell me you also come in as a shrink too. Voices in my head, last time I checked, aren't qualified." Lesley said dryly.

[I... believe that was humour ?]

"Yes! Don't you know sarcasm?" Lesley rolled his eyes, forgetting how crazy he must look.

[My consciousness is somewhat incomplete. Excuse my lack of response.]

"What does that mean? Incomplete?" This sounded important.

[Due to the complex singularity of energy that make up the Primordial bloodline and this Plane's low origin energy, Mortal laws and your low rank in cultivation, the entirety of the bloodline could not be assimilated to you. You have received a fraction of it, so as not to break the Plane or your soul.]

Lesley frowned, the gears in his head turning as he tried to understand what he was told.

"What do you mean Plane? And Mortal laws?"

[The Plane is the area of existence you currently reside in, consisting of your planet, galaxy, universe and sub universe.]

"Sub universe? Nevermind. What about the Mortal laws you talked about?" Lesley asked.

[Mortal laws are the lowest Reality laws. They exist in Planes dominated by a lack of Spiritual energies, Origin energy and Demonic energy. Creatures existing in such Planes, are finite, as is their Plane, and the laws of their reality are hard to use for cultivation.]

"Wait! Are you saying my Plane is going to die!?" Lesley gasped in shock.

[Yes. But not presently, since things have changed.]

"What things?" Lesley asked.

[Les, do you remember when I ealier said I had a solution to your dilemma of not understanding?]

"Yes, but what does that have to-"

[Please ask to view your Bloodline interface.]

"My what?" Lesley frowned in confusion, wasn't that for video games?

[Yes. They are for video games, but I assimilated the information from your memories and used it to create an interface where you can gain personal and important information. Please ask to view your Bloodline interface.]

"Uhm...I...okay, I guess. Bloodline interface?" Lesley asked hesitantly and gasped as a semi-transparent panel appeared infront of him. He immediately started to check it out, desperate for information.
