Chapter 50 - 050 - Red string: My recurrent night visitor

"Hiss…"

Alex's abrupt movement got him a painful reminder of his accident earlier in the day, making him involuntarily suck a breath of cold air and contract his arm against his left side.

At the same time, the one who disturbed his night let out a muffled groan full of pain, with her face scrunching up and her form bending to the side slightly as she pressed against her own left side.

"Hurgh~"

Alex raised an eyebrow at the blue-eyed blonde, and for a moment he forgot the frustration his anger had turned into.

He gave the woman a good look, not only because of her beauty, but also because he seemed to remember her.

After a once-over, he shook his head dismissively:

"I don't have any interest in escorts. You can leave."

With that, he swung his door to close it and return back inside.

*Bam*

A hand stopped the door, palm against it, a slim and beautiful hand, with well-trimmed short nails. But it was not enough to shake the disinterest in Alex's eyes when he raised them to glance at the blonde again.

She held his gaze, looking firm and determined, until Alex sighed:

"Sigh, I'm really paying too much for property management. Alright, tell me. Who are you, and what do you want? And just to be clear, Ron is not here. He does not live here."

After a moment feeling defeated by the situation, Alex let go of the door the blonde did not want him to close, and leaned his left side against the frame to look at her with his arms crossed.

"Hiss~ Alex Lenner, can you stop moving wildly? Also, who is Ron?"

Alex raised his eyebrows when the blonde in dark clothes in front of him frowned and sucked a breath of cold air, before holding her left side more timidly.

He ignored the frustration in her voice, and gave her a curious look that held faint interest. He let his gaze roam over her before letting it linger in one place.

The woman frowned, lowered her head to her chest where Alex was looking, and scowled in distaste:

"Pervert."

Alex raised an eyebrow, but didn't mind. He raised his gaze back to deeply look into the blue eyes across from him, then suddenly smiled:

"Interesting."

Under the stunned gaze of the blonde, he turned around and walked inside the apartment, leaving the door open behind him.

"Come in and talk. Remember to close the door behind you."

The blonde looked at Alex's back in confusion. His sudden change in behavior threw her off, making her hesitate. But she did not hesitate for long. She stepped past the door, and closed it behind her.

"Here, have some water."

The blonde looked at the smiling face in front of her, still finding it difficult to read its owner. She took the glass and suddenly realized that her mouth was feeling a little dry at that moment.

She glanced at Alex, and hesitated, but doubting that he would have done anything to the water, she took a gulp, and she spat it out at the question Alex smilingly asked:

"Tell me, who sent you last month?"

"Pfft! Cough– Cough–"

The blue-eyed blonde gave Alex an incredulous look, her heart skipping a beat as if to shift gears before starting to pound. Her pupils dilated in fear, she suddenly had trouble keeping her grip on the glass of water tight.

It was when it almost slipped out of her hand that she snapped out her daze, and she managed to tear her eyes away from the smile that suddenly seemed devilish.

"Cough…"

She coughed again to clear her throat of the last few drops of water that had almost gone into the wrong pipe, and at the same time, gathered her composure.

Before she could speak, however, Alex once again pulled the wind out her sails and threw off her rhythm. With a casual smile that almost seemed to hold a strand of amusement, he pulled the glass of water out of the fair hand holding it from below, and put it on the table, before pointing at the couch.

"Take a seat."

As for himself, he let his smiling eyes roam over the blonde once again, before he went to the balcony to look at the moon which was about to reach its zenith.

It was bright, big and round, like a jewel the many lights of the city could not hide, only suppress, and even then, only a little.

The blonde looked at his back, and hesitated, but turned away from the couch to walk up to Alex, and stand a meter or two behind him.

She looked at his back in silence, an uncomfortable silence he broke with something seemingly irrelevant:

"The moon is beautiful, isn't it?"

The blonde frowned, and finally couldn't help but voice the confusion Alex had created in her with his earlier words, and now that she thought about it, his behavior too:

"How did you recognize me?"

Alex didn't reply immediately. He smiled, and raised his left toward the moon, as if to catch it for himself.

"Hiss…"

The subtle sound of air being sucked came from behind him, followed by an admonishing:

"Alex Lenner, can you… move your left arm a little less?"

The smile on Alex's widened for a moment, before he turned around. He looked at the blonde, then lowered his head to his arm which he raised once again, as if he was not feeling the pain emitting from his left.

"My arm, huh? To move it a little less, huh?"

His face kept the smile there, but the blonde seemed to be suffering the pain in his stead. His behavior made her gnash her teeth, as if she would love nothing more than to jump on him to pry a piece of his flesh with her teeth.

Alex raised his eyebrows, and with a nonchalant expression, left the balcony. He went to sit on the sofa, and waited for his guest to calm down, and finally take a seat, like he had offered her earlier, across from him.

He remained casual, but crossed his legs in a business-like fashion. He studied her, then still ignoring the question she asked earlier, repeated the one he had asked before:

"Now then, tell me, you who like to visit me at night, who are you, and what do you want?"
