Back at the Konoha camp, Asahi relaxed completely at once. This battle against Sunagakure might have been full of deaths for other chunin, but for him, it was just doing the minimal things he could do and taking advantage of the opportunities to make military exploits.
In the early stages of the battle, most of the medical-nin of the medic team were assigned to different teams. Only twenty medical-nin such as him were left on the backline, under the protection of Konoha army, so there was no much danger at all.
It wasn't until Rasa's Gold Dust ninjutsu arrived that made him develop some worries. But in all the battles after it, under the protection of Uchiha Chizuru, Asahi was completely safe in the battlefield.
When Sunagakure's ninjas appeared to kill him, he didn't even need to make a move, since they were directly eliminated by Chizuru and the other Konoha ninjas accompanying him.
"Little brat, don't forget our agreement." Just before leaving, Chizuru reminded Asahi with a threatening expression painted on his face.
"Rest assured, I'm very trustable, and maybe we will even have other opportunities for cooperation in the future." He said.
"Humph! Don't worry! I'll make sure there's no such opportunity again." Chizuru snorted unhappily, then turned and left on his own.
"That's no good." Asahi whispered while looking at the back of the departing Uchiha jonin.
In this battle-time, the achievement Asahi was most proud of, was taking the opportunity to establish a cooperation with this Chizuru. Although Chizuru had the common problems found on the Uchiha clan and so held a very arrogant disposition, his strength was still good, and he's a ninja of the Uchiha clan. Maybe he would have enough value to be exploited in the future.
As the captain of the medical team, he still needed to report to Orochimaru and summarize the medical-nin casualties in this battle.
When he arrived at the medic team camp, Asahi glanced around. The entire camp was full of wounded. Every medical-nin looked completely engrossed in their tasks. Even with the support of Tsunade's medical-ninjutsu, many of the wounded couldn't be healed.
Asahi called his group of medical-nin together, asking about the casualties, and then briefly said one sentence, "Where can I find Orochimaru-sama?"
After the briefing, he walked into Orochimaru's tent and glanced around casually, and saw that the Konoha's elite-jonins, such as Minato, Shikaku, and others were already gathered there. It seemed that after the war, they were studying Konoha's and Sunagakure's situation.
"Orochimaru-sama!" Asahi saluted.
"Oh? So it's Asahi. Why did you come back so late?" Minato asked.
"I followed Captain Uchiha Chizuru and the jonin named Ito, and pursued the remaining sand ninjas alongside a team." Asahi explained.
"As a medical-nin, why didn't you stayed back to treat the wounded after the war?" Minato reproached with a little concern.
Asahi replied calmly, "Our team's mission was to heal the wounded on the battlefield at any time. I followed them to pursue the sand troops, with the intention of treating the wounded in case anything happened."
"It's fine!" Orochimaru waved his hand, asking, "Then how about the casualties of the medic team?"
"Forty-eight people got killed." Asahi said.
Unfortunately, one of Asahi's talented medical-nin subordinate called Jili died under Rasa's ninjutsu, leaving him slightly disappointed since he was already planning to draw him towards his side.
"How many casualties are there in Konoha? How many ninjas with minor injuries are there and how many need to be return to the village immediately?" Orochimaru continued.
"It is still under counting, and it may take some time to figure out the exact number." Asahi said.
"I heard you have had a dispute with Uchiha Chizuru?" Orochimaru asked in a somber tone.
Asahi knew what Orochimaru actually meant. As long as Asahi admits it, Konoha high-level would immediately detain Chizuru with charges of harming the wounded ninjas by making them face Rasa's jutsu and obstructing their relocation, which at the same time would hurt the Uchiha clan's prestige.
"Yes, we did had a dispute." Asahi explained, "At that time, I suspected that Rasa seemed to be approaching the medic team intentionally, and noticed that the terrain at the time seemed to be ideal for creating a lot of Gold Dust, and so I notified. Captain Chizuru for us to be prepared to withdraw, but at that time Captain Chizuru didn't agree for us withdraw immediately. The Captain meant to draw Rasa into a confrontation first, and then let the medic team take the wounded out and withdraw, his objective I presume was to take the Rasa's head."
"How dare he use wounded troops as a bait!" Minato hearing this was furious on the spot. Rasa's large scale jutsu killed almost a hundred Konoha ninjas in one go, most of them being wounded who were not able to escape.
"Actually, this is not to blame on Captain Chizuru." He took a look at Minato, and then said, "In fact, when I noticed Rasa's action, it was already too late. Even without Captain Chizuru's obstruction, we would not have been able to escape Rasa's jutsu. "
Upon hearing Asahi's words, Orochimaru's face became slightly ugly.
If this matter were to allow Orochimaru to pressure the Uchiha clan into surrendering Chizuru, he might be able to study the Uchiha clan's secrets from his body. It's a pity that since Asahi had excused the Uchiha in a meeting full of elite-jonin, it all became a fantasy.
Asahi had his own ideas. This Chizuru was a really strong ninja, and there might be other opportunities for them to cooperate in the future. He must make some small movements in front of Orochimaru's eyes, he couldn't let him know he's making preparations so as to one day deal with him using all his strength.
"Well, let's consider this matter closed then. There's nothing for you here, return to your camp for now." Orochimaru then asked a few simple questions and sent him away.
But that was just right, Asahi was too lazy to talk to them. If Orochimaru were to ask him what he thinks about Sunagakure's situation right now, he really doesn't know how to answer.
After all, the introduction to the Third Great Ninja War in Naruto was only a brief moment, and it barely even described a few important battles, but as far as the specific details goes, they were not mentioned at all. So he couldn't really judge what plans Sunagakure might be cooking.
However, judging from the original, Sunagakure would later fight against Kirigakure and Iwagakure respectively, but the exact time was not yet clear to him.
…
Back in the medic team camp, he was busy again.
The post-war period was the busiest time for medical ninjas. A large number of wounded were still in an untreated stage. Although tired, Asahi still had to raise his spirit and join the team to treat the wounded.
After being busy until midnight, he finally had a chance to take rest.
This sleep continued until noon on the next day, and even then, he barely got up from his bed.
Fortunately, Asahi till now insisted on training every day, making his physical strength and endurance much better than other ninjas of his age. Although his body was still slightly sore, in general, it was not a big problem at all, and several minor injuries that he had on his body already got healed under treatment of a single [Healing Jutsu].
After a brief face wash, Asahi stepped out of the camp and called a medical-nin over and said, "Sakurada, come here!"
He speculates that at this time, the leader of the medic team should have finished counting the casualties, and so he asked casually, "What happened to the statistics of Konoha's casualties?"
