Chapter 7 - Marked

Hisoka raised a brow slightly.

Wasn't this the leader of the Spikemuth gym's biker gang, the cold idol of Galar, and one of the protagonist's rivals from the game—Marnie?

My brother is the Gym Leader of Spikemuth, but since Dynamax can't be used there, the town's fallen into decline. To revive it, he became an idol… and now I'm competing in the Champions Cup, hoping to change things.

That was her story in both the games and the anime.

According to the timeline, she shouldn't have appeared here yet… or should she?

Hisoka quietly sighed. The Pokémon universe had always played fast and loose with continuity. The timeline of the original work was a mess. He only remembered that, in the anime, Marnie entered the Pokémon World Championships the following year and achieved a solid ranking.

But Marnie didn't know that the boy standing before her had just gone through her entire backstory.

She had more pressing matters on her mind.

"Marnie," she introduced herself curtly, her tone as chilly as the falling snow.

"Hisoka" he nodded in return, equally aloof.

"Trainer?" she asked, voice level. "You joining the doubles tournament tomorrow?"

Although it was a question, her tone was calm.

Her Morpeko squeaked questioningly from her arm, tilting its head as if mimicking her curiosity.

Hisoka nodded. "Yeah."

"No teammate?"

"No teammate," he replied simply.

Marnie was silent for a moment, then asked, "What's your partner Pokémon?"

High above them, a sleepy Hoothoot blinked awake on a streetlamp, gave a soft hoot, shook off the snow from its feathers, and dozed off again.

"Ralts," Xu Qiansu answered. "Wanna team up?"

Marnie raised an eyebrow but said nothing for a moment. Ralts was a strong starting Pokémon, and Hisoka seemed composed—maybe a bit too composed for a rookie. Maybe he had just started his journey recently?

Marnie's strength was impressive, so he was naturally happy to have a strong teammate, but could she, who came from a gym, be considered a rookie trainer?

"Morpeko is Electric and Dark. Ralts is Psychic and Fairy..." Marnie said, analyzing the type matchup in her head. "Can I see it?"

Hisoka gave a small nod, and in a flash of soft blue light, Ralts appeared on the bench beside them.

"Ralu~" Ralts chirped, leaping gracefully onto Hisoka's shoulder and tilting her head at Marnie, eyes gleaming with curiosity, scrutinizing her.

"Shiny…" Marnie murmured, a hint of surprise slipping through her normally unreadable tone.

"Mo~Rube."

Morpeko immediately hopped off Marnie's arm and onto the bench—only to skid slightly on the icy seat before Marnie steadied it with a finger.

Unbothered, Morpeko waved at Ralts cheerfully.

"Rlts" Ralts replied with a prim nod, regal as a little princess high above everyone else.

I am holier than thou.

Hisoka chuckled, pinched Ralts' cheek gently, then looked at Marnie. "Wanna battle? We can test each other's strength."

Marnie looked at Ralts confirmed her training status.

Marnie stared at Ralts for a moment, then shook her head. "No. Save your energy for tomorrow. Psychic-types are rarely weak."

She stood up, brushing snow from her coat. "I'll register. Meet me at the Pokémon Center—8 a.m. sharp."

"Got it."

They left it at that. No warm goodbyes, no attempt at friendship. Just mutual respect between trainers.

Morpeko dug into its pouch and pulled out two tiny, roasted seeds—its favorite snack—and offered them to Xu Qiansu with a grin.

"Thanks." He smiled and took them, offering some Poké Puffs from his bag in return.

Marnie paused, watching the friendly exchange with a softness in her eyes she didn't show often.

Morpeko happily munched the food, gave a final chirp of farewell, then bounded off to follow Marnie into the snow.

"Later," Marnie said over her shoulder without looking back.

"See you."

Hisoka popped one of the roasted seeds into his mouth—surprisingly tasty. He gave one to Ralts, who crunched it happily.

 [ANALYSIS]

[Morpeko outspeeds and can spam Bite, which is super effective and may cause flinching, giving Ralts no chance to attack.

Unless Ralts has Magical Leaf, Disarming Voice, or is specially EV trained in Speed and Sp. Atk, it is unlikely to even land a hit.

If Ralts is holding Focus Sash or is supported by external buffs/status, there is a slim chance of countering with Fairy-type moves.]

"Yes."

Flashes went before my eyes.

"Truly a talented girl. Marnie will be a difficult opponent.....But I have a plan."

"Ralts drink this serum. "

"Ral?"

"Don't worry this is fruit juice ....good for your health"

Well they are actually improved version of ability candy - Gives exp as well as stat threshold.

"Let's run five laps around the park to loosen up," Hisoka said gently. "Then we'll find a warm hotel, get cleaned up, rest early, and be ready for tomorrow. Sound good?"

"RALTS~!" Ralts punched the air eagerly.

Meanwhile, tucked away in a narrow alley behind a quiet tavern in Freezefrost Town, the bartender polished glasses behind the counter as the snow drifted silently past the windows.

The door creaked open, letting in a blast of cold air.

Without needing to look, the bartender poured a glass and placed it on the counter. "Green Snow Festival's tomorrow. Still working?"

The man who entered gave a weary grin and sat down, placing his gear-laden waist bag on the bar. "I've got a family to feed. Can't afford to take days off like you."

He lifted the glass and knocked it back. "Your stuff's still the best. Got anything stronger?"

The bartender snorted. "You want the good stuff, you pay."

The man chuckled and drank again.

"Been home lately?" the bartender asked without looking up.

"…Not yet." The reply came quieter this time.

Glass down. Another pour. Another shot.

"Anyone in the back room?" the man asked.

The bartender nodded. "Yeah."

The man took his bag and headed to the booth. "In this line of work, trouble's bound to catch up. Better quit while you're still breathing."

The man shrugged, voice light but bitter. "If there were another way, don't you think I'd take it?"

Nothing more was said.

He entered the booth, nodded to the kindly old man inside, pulled out a black robe and mask from his bag, suited up, and slipped through a concealed door.

His Poké Balls jingled in his bag. If Hisoka hadn't come along, Ralts would've been one of them.

He walked a dim corridor until he reached a small chamber, dimly lit, with over a dozen masked figures seated in silence.

This was an underground exchange—a black market for Pokémon and secrets.

One figure stepped forward. "I've got a Wishing Star. You know what it's worth. Pokémon, intel, or cold hard cash—minimum seven figures."

The room erupted in murmurs.

A Wishing Star—the key to Dynamax and Gigantamax. Meteoric in origin, tightly controlled by the Galar League, and practically unobtainable outside official channels.

Hands drifted toward Poké Balls.

A single cold snort silenced the room.

A Pokémon drifted from behind a seated figure—a Dragapult. Sleek, ghostly, with twin Dreepy in its launchers, its gaze was unreadable and heavy with threat.

No one dared move.

The figure didn't speak. He didn't need to.

Everyone knew who he was.

"Mr. Yew"—the one who ran this place.

The seller of the Wishing Star smiled. "So, any takers?"

Silence.

No one wanted to spend that kind of money or part with Pokémon of that value.

Then—

Clatter.

A waist bag hit the floor. Dozens of Poké Balls spilled out.

"These are worth at least a hundred grand," said a gruff-voiced man. "And I've got info on a rare shiny Pokémon."

The room stirred.

"Shiny? Hmph. Not interested in rumors," the Wishing Star seller said.

"Ralts."

The name dropped like a thunderclap.

The room buzzed again.

Ralts—beloved for its evolution into Gardevoir or Gallade. Now add shiny? Its value skyrocketed.

The poacher didn't waste time. He pulled out a sketch pad and began drawing.

No one dared interrupt.

When he was done, he folded the sketch, approached Mr. Yew, showed it, and only then turned to the seller.

"Give me the Wishing Star," he said. "I'll give you the portrait of the trainer who owns the shiny Ralts."

"That's not enough," the seller growled. "Too vague."

"He's young. Just started his journey. No one else knows what he looks like yet. But if you move fast—he's yours. The others will be too late."

It was a tempting offer.

Mr. Yew stood silent but present—a silent guarantee of fairness.

The seller hesitated, then reached out and shook the poacher's hand.

"…Deal."

The crowd murmured, unease drifting like smoke. The idea of selling out a trainer—especially a kid—left a bitter taste in many mouths. But business was business, and morality didn't buy food in the shadows of Freezefrost.

The poacher smirked, eyes gleaming. "I want one more thing," he said.

The seller arched a brow.

"When you catch him—don't just take the Ralts. Take his hands too."

There was silence.

Not from shock, but from grim understanding.

Mr. Yew didn't blink. The Dragapult's eyes narrowed, the air in the room shifting subtly—colder, heavier.

The seller was the one who finally broke the tension. "Tch. You've got some nerve."

"He made me bleed," the poacher replied coldly. "I want to make sure he never throws a Poké Ball again."

Back on the Snow-Dusted Streets

In the Pokémon Center Hotel,

The wind had picked up, rattling windowpanes and shaking frost from the trees. Hisoka and Ralts laid on the bed as Hisoka watched the snowy winds of Freezefrost Town, the warm golden lights of the Pokémon Center just ahead.

Hisoka felt a chill...

The world slows—just for a moment. His breath catches and instincts scream.

"What was that?"

When he accepted the system reward Hisoka got many reward ....in this regard one could say he is at the peak of human power..

It was his aura and psychic sense warning ....Well that which he is aware of.

Ralts stirred in her sleep."Shh…" Ash whispered softly, brushing a hand through her fine, snow-kissed hair. The cold wind outside howled like a beast, but in the warmth of the cabin, he kept her shielded — from the cold, and from the world.

"Poor girl."

Something bad is going to happen...a premonition. He didn't know what yet. Only that the tingling at the back of his mind — that dull weight pressing behind his eyes — was never wrong.

"Sleep, sleep," he murmured, voice low like a drifting breeze.
