After preparing the pie, the Sterlings set the table, arranging the pie and glasses of juice. Jessica placed the last fork down just as the doorbell rang again.
"I'll get it," she said cheerfully.
When she opened the door, her smile lit up.
"Hunter," she said brightly. "You look much better. And you're just in time for lunch."
Delilah's eyes lifted when she heard his name. She walked toward the door, her eyes glowing with quiet joy when she saw him.
"Hey," Hunter said with a warm smile. He leaned in and kissed her temple. "How are you feeling today?"
"Much better," she said softly. "How are you?"
"I'm okay," Hunter said, and then turned to exchange pleasantries with Ned.
"We were just about to have lunch. Join us," Ned offered after the greetings.
"I'd love to stay," he said, glancing at the set table, "but I have other plans. Just wanted to check on Lila and see how she's doing."
Her smile faltered just a bit, but she nodded. "That's sweet of you. Thanks for stopping by."
