Chapter 16 - towards the ruins

<< Okay, I give up >>

I had to admit defeat. I didn't have enough mana left, and the last spell was high-flying. Continuing the fight with my sword and the potions I made crossed my mind, but it would be a waste to give it my all for simple training.

"Well, next time I'll have it."

-<< Jane, this fight was really very good since it allowed me to highlight several of your flaws >>

If I have to translate, I'm really bad at fighting. In his explanations, he told me that I'm way too distracted, that my strategies are predictable.

<< Also, you should develop your skill, it's really useful >>

Hmm, what's my gift talking about? It's the bodily regeneration I used.

-<< When you talk about a gift, is it my regeneration that you're referring to? >>

The professor was taken aback by my answer.

-<< You don't know that, I see. I'll have to explain everything to you. >>

He then told me that a Gift is an ability that transcends logic; it's only found in certain people.

-<< You can see that a person who doesn't use magic can have a Gift that more than compensates for their absence. >>

-<< What are the abilities of a Gift? They're all like mine. >>

I asked the question, but I already knew the answer. If he refers to my regeneration as a Gift, then it's the active abilities of my genetic manipulation, just like persuasion and status verification.

-<< No, Gifts differ from one person to another, and the logic behind their nature remains a mystery. >>

I see, and well, I realize that I'd never really paid attention to my other unique skill, the Devilish Contract. I'd forgotten it; I never had the opportunity to use it.

- << That's it, we've finished this lesson, make sure you take in everything I told you >>

-<< Oh, actually, I'm going to leave to see the ruins in the northern part of the forest >>

-<< Ah, yes, okay, good initiative, it will help you better understand everything I've taught >>

It's always the same with him, he leaves, leaving me with unanswered questions, well, I have things to do, and when I tell him my plans, he agrees without batting an eyelid.

Without further ado, I gathered everything I needed.

-<< Okay, Nagisa, come on, let's go camping. I guess it's been a while since I've been to the forest >>

I went down the stairs with my bag, giving a satisfied smile. I had already stocked up on meals and even frozen meals in case I got too tired.

- << I'm saying goodbye to you, but I'll be back >>

Yes, I was going to come back, and it was so I could beat him for good that I couldn't.

- << Yes, try to make progress >>

We knew very well that our next confrontation would be to put our lives on the line and for a definitive goodbye.

- << So, Nagisa, we went for a little excursion >>

Yess ... Lost in thought, Nagisa wrapped up the fight in no time.

-<< Well, what do I do with the body? I already have enough supplies? >>

After a moment of reflection,

-<< Well, the heart is yours anyway. >>

I removed it and we were able to continue our journey.

The journey was pleasant, with the different sensations I could feel. I never tire of it. The joy of living like this is addictive. Well, I wish I didn't have to. I had to be wary of everything, especially my teacher.

-<< Well....>>

The days passed, and I fought a few monsters and picked new specimens like blue apples and even brown grapes. Blue apples have toxic skin that causes hallucinations and loss of consciousness, but if you're careful, they're truly delicious. As for grapes, they're downright poisonous. They never turned my stomach again. Despite their delicious taste, they also have the property of inducing moments of euphoria. I must say that while I was convulsing, I could see Nagisa watching me. If he could speak, he would surely say, "What is my mistress doing now?" At least, that's the expression on his face.

After this brief experience, I continued deeper into the forest, and finally, after days of walking, I reached my destination. From afar, I saw the small ruined city. In most films, this kind of place gives an impression of grandeur.

But up close, I thought I felt the thrill of discovery. It reminds me of a saying I keep repeating to myself: "Never completely trust your ideas about something you had hopes for, because you can... be disappointed in the majority of cases.

- << Well, I'm not going to just stand there and watch, stick close to me like that, there's no risk of getting separated. >>

At my words, Nagisa curls up on top of me, and we begin our exploration.

...

The buildings are completely rotten. I find some semblance of dishes and other things. I suppose all our valuables have been taken...

<< Hmm, oh, more Kobolls, Nagisa, take care of them. >>

Kobolls, even though they need to think, are the basic creatures of any fantasy world, but contrary to what people might suggest, they are intelligent enough to already understand the concept of revenge because they've been sticking to my heels ever since I killed one.

-<< She really likes it, you're going to leave me for the end >>

I guess you deserved it for kicking the anthill,

- << How did that even happen? >> I was thinking about it while fighting against the growing troop of these undesirables.

I barely came to the site when I saw a band of three Koboll. I attacked it almost instantly. When I saw them, I eliminated two of them, and the last one was mortally wounded, so I let it escape.

-<< Aaaah, it's obvious that would have provoked reprisals >>

They're smart enough to use weapons, but not smart enough to cover their private parts.

-<< Bunch of pests!!! Well, it's decided, I'm going to treat myself to eradicating all of you >>

PS: I'm the author. I'd like to apologize for this long absence and thank you for continuing to read and comment on my work. Thank you.
