Chapter 33 - Gas

Entering the elevator we are both tense and unsure of what awaits us, for me especially as I barely know the Mr Collins but I trust Rose. Hand in hand the elevator moves until it reaches the correct floor. "You ready" I whisper aloud, one last attempt at comfort, "Always, especially with you by my side." The elevator door opens and the atmosphere seemingly drops to below freezing. Our bodies locking up as I feel her grip tightens I look ahead to see multiple men with guns all pointed at us. "Mr Collins, I would appreciate it if you lowered your weapons" Rose commands, looking at him I see him slightly turn his head signalling for them to lower them, which they do. Scanning the group I can't remember any of them really, my gaze flies between each of them but it lands on someone, his gaze seemingly piecing straight through me. Ignoring it I subconsciously take a step closer to Rose as she begins moving forward. Looking at her she begins to open her mouth but is interrupted by a thundering banging sound echoing from the door. "Shit, everyone in the elevator now" I say, more like command. Turning around me and Rose re-enter the elevator as everyone follows. As the door shuts I let a quick sigh of relief escape my lips. "Are we not going to do anything about them" someone voices, gazing up i realise it is Mr Collins who has spoken out, murmurs of agreement seem to fill the elevator. My mind ablaze with thoughts I try think of any ideas, but then it hits me. "I have an idea"

As everyone files into the control room Will takes his seat at the main computer logging on and checking security to see their progress on the door, if it is any. Then he speaks "Excuse me, what do you recommend we do regarding the people trying to break in" The surrounding group not including Rose looks at him funnily until the light illuminates the room again. "All floors have a system which on command releases gas throughout the entire floor which often proves fatal to the average person, this of course would not leak through to other floors and after the intruders are unconscious or dead on your command the same system filters the gas out of the air again." With everyone listening they all have mixed reactions, some of disgust at such a system, some of understanding and one of knowing. Unexpectedly Dr Goult lets out a hearty chuckle breathing out in between "What do we expect from the oh, so famous Dr Jake Wilsons facility." Saying this his eyes rest upon Will in a knowing gaze. "I say we do it, for our own survival and to negate all bloodshed" Roses soft echoes throughout the room. "Then let's do it" Mr Collins agrees.

"We are so close, just open this bastard door already." A boisterous command fills the car park. Struggled agreements come from the soldiers currently attempting to open the metal door and for now, they have got it open a crack. "We are nearly there, come on, put some muscle into it" the voice commands again, this time the door budges again, and again until slowly it fully opens. "You have a minute rest before we light this place up" the voice said again, this time a bit gentler. Moving through the soldiers he peers inside, exactly as it was described to him as, bleak, bland, boring, the list could go on and on. For this mission all of had to have an injection rather than the pill to ensure maximum efficiency in their mission. So in less than a minute they got up following their leader as he made his way through checking all the rooms on the way to elevator door at the end. "If you see anyone, shoot." Another order, this time with the tone carries a warning, a life or death warning. Around 10 minutes pass until they reach the elevator and then the noises begin, a low whistling sound as if a pipe has burst, then all of a sudden it huts, visions go blurry as the shouts begin and one final command is given "Run for the door" but none made it, all collapsing either unconscious or dead.

"All intruders survived however they are all unconscious" the autonomous voice announces. A sigh leaves nearly every mouth in the room knowing they basically escaped an inevitable fight to the death. "Let's get moving them, who's going to kill them off" Mr Collins ask's but then Rose grits her teeth replying "We can't just kill them, they have been used, just like most of us were, by the pill, by the government." No matter what could be said next her logic applied. "Instead why don't we just tie them up" She finishes. Up till now Wills mind has been confused at something, earlier the autonomous voice said it would kill the average man yet all of these survived. Why was that? "I would like to figure out why they all survived first, the autonomous voice stated that gas would be enough to kill an average human so why aren't some dead?" Dr Goult is listening in closely, wondering the same idea, yet he already had his hypothesis. "I'll help you with that, I'm sure you know this place has plenty of equipment" he stated already walking towards me "Let's go" he say's directly to Will as they both make way to the elevator. "Can you lot please move all of them to the closest laboratory, I'm sure you know where it is Rose" Dr Goult finishes as the door closes. "And I'm sure you do as well Jake."
