"I should let you rest," I said, gently brushing a crease from the edge of his blanket.
Edward gave me a look—half amused, half annoyed. "Since when have you asked permission to do the right thing?" He didn't let go of my hand. "You'll come back?"
I smiled, though my throat tightened. "Yes, I'll be back tomorrow."
He squeezed my hand again, his fingers curling with just enough pressure to make the promise feel like a shared one. "Good. I'd like that."
"You'll get bored of me" I said softly. "I'll be here every day. As long as you'll have me."
His expression shifted, softening, but something more serious flickered underneath.
"Abigail…" His voice dropped. "Are you sure that's a good idea? Seeing Mark… this often. It might hurt you both."
I hesitated, but only for a second.
"I can handle it," I said quietly. "He doesn't have to talk to me. But you, you're not doing this alone. I won't let you."
