Helen POV
Leoric, flanked by his guards, approached me as I stood in the hallway outside his chamber. However, the man they pulled behind Leoric stopped my heart, not Leoric. Scott.
"Scott!" Before I could stop myself, I gasped. His eyes met mine, surprised and full of hope, but the guards pushed him forward immediately, pushing him down with a harsh hand.
Leoric's face was composed, as though this was all part of his plan. With a cunning smile on his lips, he said, "I thought you might need some motivation, Helen." "You might stay focused if you observe what happens to those who disobey."
I remained composed. Scott wouldn't benefit from panicking, and displaying fear would just exacerbate the situation. I pretended to be submissive as I responded, "Leoric, you don't have to do this." "I'm open to cooperating with you. Simply let him go."
