Chapter 61 - Haunted Doll-Part 4

He ducks through a door and into Nathan's room, rolling on the ground as the ghost swipes above him and destroys part of the doorway. He quickly rises up and slices at the ghost with his axe, but it dodges and screams at him, all teeth and spit.

"Ugh, this is seriously not how I planned this!" He whines, dodging past it while it's distracted and out into the hall again. He makes a sharp turn onto the stairs, switching out his axe for the gun. Turning around and taking aim just as the ghost rears its ugly head, he takes aim and fires. The ghost avoids it at the last second, the shot clipping its arm. Usually, that would be enough to take it down, but it only makes its arm disappear. The ghost pauses in shock before letting out another scream of rage and chasing him down the stairs.

"Shit, shit, shit!" Belle curses as he runs. Switching out the gun as he turns the corner at the bottom of the stairs, he swings the cheek of the axe around the corner right as the ghost appears, smacking it in the face and sending it flying through a wall.

The dress was in the basement, kept in a chest. Leanne told him it was the old family's stuff. The previous owners had apparently left it in there. Belle knew that Regina must've just tossed it in there by accident.

He runs toward the basement now, so that just in case everything goes wrong, he will have some sort of out. When the ghost inevitably starts chasing him again he starts sprinting faster, throwing open the door to the basement and sailing around the corner, jumping down the stairs.

He switches out for the gun, and as soon as the ghost peeks its head around the corner, he shoots it again. This time, he gets the other arm, and it hisses with fury. Its hair flies around its head as it launches itself at Belle. He simply switches out for the axe, tilting slightly and cutting off its leg in the process. The ghost seems to realize it's in danger now, as it starts whimpering fearfully, trying to escape.

"Sorry." Belle apologizes, before lopping its head off, using the system to exorcise it. The house gives a rumbling jolt as the family appears at the top of the basement stairs, filing in one by one.

"You did it! Thank you!" Leanne rushes to hug Belle.

"Yeah! Nice going!" Nathan congratulates. Dan is silent, standing at the back and putting a comforting hand on his wife's shoulder as she parts from Belle.

"We…can't stay, can we?" He asks softly, his eyes wet as he glances at Belle.

"Dad? What are you talking about?" Nathtan looks at his dad in confusion.

"...I didn't want to say anything. I hope that you'll be able to rest in peace now, but you are all currently souls stuck in the dimension of a ghost." Belle explains, looking down at his feet guiltily.

"I thought it was something like that…" Dan sighs.

"Honey? What are you saying?" Leanne turns to her husband.

"I've been having a feeling of deja vu recently, like we've done this before. And I had dreams about us dying. When this young man showed up, I had my suspicions, it turns out they were true." Dan shakes his head as he explains.

"I don't know what's going to happen now, but I hope you all can find peace." Belle glances at the family sadly as the room gives another shake.

"Indeed, I hope for the same." Dan smiles and nods as he comforts his shaken wife and son. The room gives another rumble, and Dan shoos Belle off, he turns, reaching for the dress which is sitting neatly inside a box. When he grasps it, reality shifts for a second, and then he's back in front of the doors. Only the one with red handprints is warping, slowly shifting in on itself until it disappears.

"Here, I got the dress." Belle turns and holds it out for Regina, whose face is now red as she fumes.

"How dare you! Those souls were mine!" She screeches.

"You didn't say anything about them. I got the dress, I did my job, it's unfortunate for you, but that family is free now," Belle states, shooting her a glare.

"Ugh, fine! Maybe one of you will do a better job dying." She pouts, turning to Avery and Luna.

"Ahem, I shall go next." Luna floats in front of one of the doors. This one has flowers on it and looks somewhat peaceful.

"Ah! Good choice, in this room, you will be looking for my favorite chalice that I used to drink from. It was given to me by my grandmother. Off you go." Regina makes a shooing motion and Luna gives an annoyed huff as she opens the door. When she steps out, she finds herself in a bright, sunny village, with people running around and decorating with flowers.

"Well? I managed to capture an entire villages souls, I make sure to let them live out a year in peace before I make a ghost extract all their lovely terror for the visitors, it works every time, good luck!" Regina cackles as she closes the door behind her.

"Ugh, that little brat." Luna shakes her fist at nothing before deciding to float around the village and check things out. The clothes they wear seem old, and the decorations mostly consist of flowers from a nearby field.

"Ah, are you here for the festival as well? That's strange, we've had a lot of visitors this year." A voice makes Luna pause, and when she turns around, she notices a woman staring directly at her.

"Are you…talking to me?" Luna asks, pointing at herself.

"Why, yes, who else would I be talking to? Welcome to our village, it's our annual flower festival." The woman spreads her arms as Luna stares in shock. This was going to be a lot harder if people could see her.
