Chapter 15 - Chapter 16 – *Into the Epoch Rift*

## 🌌 Chapter 16 – *Into the Epoch Rift*

The *Vanta Skimmer* shuddered as its engines roared to life, their pulse synchronized with the rhythmic heartbeat of the Temporal Nexus secured deep within the ship. The crew stood ready on the bridge, a mixture of tension and anticipation etched on their faces.

Aarin gripped the command console, eyes locked on the swirling anomaly that awaited them ahead—a vast, writhing tear in the very fabric of time itself, known as the Epoch Rift.

"It's unlike anything I've ever seen," Elara murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. The glow of her datapad flickered as it streamed unstable temporal readings. "The Rift is a wound in time — where past, present, and future collide and bleed into one another. If the Null's corruption took root anywhere, it would be here."

Raylen's fingers flew over his console, scanning the chaotic energy signatures. "This place is a nightmare of distorted timelines. We'll have to navigate carefully, or we risk being trapped in a loop, or worse—erased."

Selene flexed her fingers, her plasma rifle gleaming in the dim light. "No loops or erasures are going to stop us. We've faced worse and lived."

---

As the *Vanta Skimmer* edged closer to the Rift, the very air seemed to warp and pulse. The stars outside fractured into impossible patterns, bending and twisting in time's unstable grasp.

The ship's temporal shields flickered as they absorbed ripples of raw time energy, threatening to overload the systems.

"Shields at sixty percent and dropping," Raylen warned. "We need to stabilize or we're going to lose the whole ship."

Elara's eyes darted across her instruments. "I'm activating the chrono-stabilizers now. They'll create a temporal bubble around us to prevent the worst of the distortions."

---

Inside the ship, time began to behave unpredictably. Minutes stretched into hours; seconds blinked away like sparks. The crew felt as if they were moving through molasses — each step a slow battle against the warping flow.

Suddenly, the ship lurched violently.

"Impact on the starboard side!" Selene shouted, gripping the railing. "Something just hit us!"

Outside the viewport, a colossal shadow emerged from the Rift's chaotic mists — a creature born from fractured timelines and corrupted energies.

Its form shifted constantly: one moment a serpentine mass of pulsating flesh, the next a crystalline being radiating pure light, only to dissolve into dark, swirling smoke.

"It's a Temporal Wraith," Elara said, voice tense. "A guardian of the Rift... but corrupted. It's attacking us."

The creature's tendrils lashed out, scraping the hull and sparking bursts of energy. The ship's shields faltered under the relentless assault.

---

"Defensive maneuvers!" Aarin ordered. "Selene, prepare weapons. Raylen, support her with the ship's weapon systems. Elara, keep those stabilizers online."

Selene's plasma rifle flared as she fired at the Wraith, her shots piercing shifting layers of the creature's form.

Raylen hacked into the ship's targeting array, unleashing bursts of energy from the *Vanta Skimmer*'s turrets.

The Temporal Wraith screeched, a sound like shattered glass and rippling timewaves.

---

Amid the chaos, the ship's alarms blared.

"Temporal breach detected in the lower decks!" Raylen announced. "The Wraith's corruption is seeping inside."

Aarin's heart pounded. "Contain it! Seal all bulkheads!"

Selene and Raylen rushed to assist the engineering team, battling corrupt temporal echoes—ghostly figures trapped between moments, their distorted cries echoing through the corridors.

---

Elara worked frantically in the engine room, recalibrating the chrono-stabilizers.

"If these fail," she said grimly, "we could be lost in the Rift forever — or worse, erased from existence."

Aarin joined her, placing a steady hand on her shoulder. "We have to hold on. For the universe."

---

After what felt like an eternity, the crew managed to push the Wraith back toward the Rift's swirling edge.

Aarin ordered full thrusters, steering the *Vanta Skimmer* through a narrow temporal corridor revealed by the stabilizers.

The ship surged forward, slipping past the creature as the Rift's chaotic energies roared behind them.

---

Breathless and battered, the crew gathered once more on the bridge.

"We survived," Raylen said, running a hand through his hair.

"But the Rift isn't pacified," Elara warned. "There are deeper fractures — worse corruptions that the Null could exploit."

Aarin gazed ahead, the swirling light of the Rift receding.

"We've taken the first step into darkness," he said quietly. "But we'll bring light back to this fractured time."

---

As the *Vanta Skimmer* pulled away from the Rift, Aarin's comm-link buzzed softly.

A mysterious voice whispered through the static, ancient and haunting:

"*Time's guardians… beware… the shadows deepen…*"

Aarin's eyes narrowed.

"This fight is far from over."
