Chapter 362 - Chapter 37: The Wolf Tribe’s Choice

Origami Tobiichi initially had no intention of intervening in the battle.

This was meant to be humanity's debut. Only by allowing them to personally reap the fruits of victory and understand the benefits that the Crystal Remnantss could bring, would their faith in Mio Takamiya be maximized.

The battle was progressing smoothly.

Origami and Schwi had no reason or need to take action and had been observing the performance of the Corpse Hunters from the skies the entire time.

That was until a rare Blood Break individual appeared.

In fact, even if Riku hadn't asked for help, Origami would've stepped in.

In this battle, judging from the current display of strength by the Corpse Hunters, most of them already possessed the ability to stand their ground one-on-one against the Werebeast.

Moreover, the number ratio between the Corpse Hunters and the Werebeast was nearly two to one. After withstanding the Werebeast's initial fierce assault, the advantage gradually began to tilt in favor of the Corpse Hunters.

At this pace, after a few more rounds, the Werebeast would be completely defeated.

But if a Blood Break joined the battle, the balance of victory would immediately tip back to the Werebeast's side.

All two hundred and one Corpse Hunters could be slaughtered in just a few minutes.

Therefore, Origami had to intervene.

"These two Werebeast must be important to you."

She tossed the unconscious old and young wolfmen onto the ground and said calmly, "If you don't want them to get hurt, you'd best surrender."

The fierce fighting on the battlefield ceased with Origami intervention.

The Corpse Hunters, knowing Origami position within the tribe, tactfully stepped back behind Riku.

Although the wolfmen didn't know Origami identity, mistaking her for a Flügel, fear filled their eyes one by one.

Not a single wolfman dared resist, nor did any of them have the courage to negotiate. With both their chief and young master captured, all of the wolfmen knelt down to express their submission.

Seeing this, Origami raised her eyebrows slightly.

She had thought they'd at least put up a symbolic resistance.

She hadn't expected them to surrender so quickly.

"Their god was slain by the Flügel."

As if sensing Origami confusion, Schwi came to her side and explained simply, "The Werebeast are one of the races born in the early stages of the Great War. Under the protection of their god, they were extremely powerful, with many Blood Break individuals. But after losing their god, their strength began to decline, and they have been extremely fearful of the Flügel ever since."

Origami nodded slightly.

She had known that the Werebeast's god had fallen during the Great War, but she hadn't realized it was the Flügel who had killed them.

No wonder the wolfmen completely lost the will to resist the moment they saw her. Their surrender had come so quickly.

With this useful intel, Origami narrowed her eyes slightly and carefully scrutinized the wolfmen.

Sure enough, even though they had all knelt to show submission, she could still see glimmers of emotion flickering in their eyes.

It was the light of hatred.

"You… also want revenge, don't you?"

Origami emotionless voice rang out.

It revealed no anger or joy, yet caused many of the wolfmen's hearts to skip a beat, and they hurriedly suppressed their emotions.

"We wouldn't dare."

With the chief and young master both unconscious, a senior elder of the tribe had no choice but to step forward and respond on behalf of the entire tribe.

"You wouldn't dare, not don't want to?"

Catching the subtle word choice, Origami slowly walked toward the trembling elder.

Finally, she stopped right in front of him.

"Lift your head."

Her indifferent voice carried an irresistible authority, compelling the elder—whose forehead was nearly touching the ground—to slowly raise his head.

"Take a good look. Am I a Flügel?"

The elder was momentarily stunned.

With a halo on her head and white wings on her back, she looked like a textbook Flügel.

But then the elder instinctively sniffed the air.

His expression grew more confused.

Though she looked like a Flügel, the presence she gave off was entirely different.

"May I ask… what exactly are you?" the elder asked cautiously.

"I'm an Spirit."

After stating her public identity, Origami repeated the story she had previously told Riku and Schwi to the elder and the surrounding wolfmen.

Only then did the wolfmen begin to nod thoughtfully.

"So, due to the heavy casualties suffered by the Spirit race during the Great War, you've appeared in this world as the proxy of the Spirit, with the goal of ending the Great War?"

After digesting the information, the elder summarized what he had just learned: "And to awaken the slumbering god of the Elves, you formed a partnership with humans. They will become believers in Mio Takamiya and offer faith, while you provide strength and protection. The power the humans just used was a gift from Mio Takamiya?"

"That's exactly right."

Origami hadn't originally intended to say so much to the Werebeast.

But after seeing that this small wolf tribe had a rare Blood Break individual, she became interested in recruiting them.

That's why she said she wouldn't kill those who surrendered.

Then, after hearing Schwi explain that the Werebeast's god had been killed by the Flügel, her desire to recruit the Werebeast tribe grew even stronger.

"One of the main reasons I need to awaken Mio Takamiya," Origami said, "is to defeat the Flügel's god. Since you bear a grudge against the Flügel, why not join us and become believers in Mio Takamiya?"

"This…"

Hearing this proposal, the elder's expression became troubled.

Even though the Werebeast's god was already dead, that didn't mean their loyalty had vanished.

To change faith was akin to betrayal.

Seeing the elder's difficult expression, Origami was not surprised.

From the beginning, she had chosen humans as the primary target for proselytizing rather than the more numerous and stronger Werebeast precisely because the Werebeast were a divine-created race, with intense loyalty toward their god.

Even though their god had been dead for a long time, and many Werebeast had never even seen their god's appearance, the ideological imprint still remained.

However, it wasn't entirely hopeless.

Six thousand years after the Great War ended, the Werebeast had also changed their faith—taking the Machine God's creator, the Suspicious God Phanul, as their new patron.

So, as long as there was sufficient reason, Origami might indeed be able to bring the Werebeast into her fold.

If the recruitment succeeded, future sources of believers would no longer be limited to human tribes. Every Werebeast tribe they defeated could bring a large number of potential believers.

And if recruitment failed, it didn't matter—those who had surrendered would still be used as slaves, as the foundation for expansion.

Either way, she would not lose.

Origami quietly stood in place, waiting for the wolf tribe's decision.
