Elric's speech really left an impression on all the students present. After a brief moment of silence, a storm of applause erupted, accompanied by enthusiastic murmurs. Ironically, the way he mentioned the threat of the celestials was almost laughable, especially considering the ruling house he comes from.
At least, his speech was far more convincing than the principal's. I even suspect that's why she had him speak. Well, it may have worked on most of them, but I'm not naive enough to believe all their nice words.
'Effort and mentality are rewarded?' Nonsense. No matter how hard someone tries or how disciplined they are, if they have mediocre talent, they'll be expelled from the academy without hesitation. Their speech only makes sense when it applies to those with real talent or geniuses. Luckily — or unluckily — the majority of students here are talented... to some extent.
That being said, I must admit, as the vice president of the Student Council, Elric has impressive oratory skills. His speech even managed to motivate me a little, I have to admit. He's really good.
After a few introductory words, we received an email with the locations of our accommodations. Classes officially begin tomorrow morning. This first day is mostly about helping us acclimate.
Once the speech ended, the students began to scatter.
"Hey, how about grabbing some fast food? It'd be cool to get to know each other!"
"Yeah, sure. My accommodation can wait."
"You can't imagine how excited I am for these next three years!"
Some had already started to get to know each other and were eager to explore Eloria City in depth. And honestly, they were absolutely right.
I mean, Eloria City is huge and absolutely fascinating. No matter where you go, you run into students from different years.
Outside of students, teachers, and staff at the academy, the city also houses merchants, artisans, scientists, and those who manage specialized establishments. It's even possible for students to house their families here… as long as they can afford a huge sum, of course.
As I checked the location I needed to head to on my phone, a sigh escaped me.
"Hum, that's pretty far from here."
Fortunately, there are transportation options, or it would have been a real hassle. I headed toward the nearest train station. With the speed of these trains, I knew I'd get there in no time.
As I walked, I couldn't help but notice how different the air here was from that of Grelin City. And that's for one simple reason: mana.
The concentration of mana in the air was much higher, allowing students to progress quickly and fully unlock their potential.
It was the ideal environment for growth. In three years, one could truly transform.
But first, I had to survive the first month without getting expelled.
What will determine whether you stay after this period or not are two major exams: one theoretical and one practical.
'I shouldn't have trouble with the theoretical, and I'm not too worried about the practical exam either...'
Why?
Well, because in the novel, Noah passed, and knowing the future to some extent, I shouldn't be too concerned. Of course, relying solely on what's written in the book would be a mistake. After all, my actions have a direct impact on the course of events.
Everything I've done since I transmigrated will have repercussions on the future. But anyway, it's not like I'm trying to replicate the same story or get the same 'ending' as in the novel.
Besides, in that ending — if you can even call it an ending — it's me who dies in the end...
After taking the train, I arrived at my destination. A large building stood before me. I entered, took the elevator, and found myself in front of the door to my new home.
Without hesitation, I opened the door and discovered a stunning living space. It was spacious and luxurious. Once inside, I closed the door behind me. The living room was well-appointed, with everything one could dream of. On a large table, a small box lay there.
I knew what it contained. Opening it, I found a beautiful dark ring, engraved with the academy's name, as well as mysterious runes. It was a dimensional ring. No more worrying about transporting my belongings; it was literally a storage space. And that wasn't all. It had several other functions: for example, it could perform all the tasks of a phone. One could access various apps and networks through this ring. Furthermore, all the academy's main information would be transmitted through this device, and even the Eloria social network was integrated into it.
It was essential to wear it.
Without further ado, I slipped it on my finger. It vibrated slightly. Curious, I took out the family photo, and by infusing a little mana into the ring, I made it disappear.
"This is really convenient..." I murmured.
More specifically, this ring was an artifact. An artifact is a magical object with one or more abilities. These objects are also ranked into 5 levels, ranging from low to destructive.
After exploring the other rooms, I was surprised to find that there was also a training room.
Of respectable size, it was equipped with everything needed for proper training. However, objectively speaking, this room could be described as average, at best. At the end of the first month, a ranking of first-year students would be made. The best among them would be assigned higher-quality accommodations, with better training rooms and other privileges.
It's also possible to access the academy's private training rooms, but that requires paying a certain amount. Needless to say, students from wealthy or rich families have an advantage here... However, they cannot receive money from the outside or their families. They must make do with what they brought when they arrived, which gives a distinct advantage to those who prepared well.
That said, money is not an issue here: there are many ways to earn it.
Suddenly, a vibration emanated from the ring on my finger. I activated it, and a holographic screen appeared in front of me. I quickly checked the cause of the vibration.
