Chapter 1 - 1. What happened?!

Lunch break at a high school in early spring.

In the school corridor which was quite crowded with students, one of them was Max and Alysha from class ten who had just come out of the cafeteria.

"Ah... what a boring math lesson..." complained Max who was walking with Alysha while carrying two packages of chocolate-filled wheat bread in his left hand and orange juice in his right hand.

Alysha who was munching on her bread looked sarcastically at Max who was sipping his orange juice. Alysha swallowed her bread quickly with the help of a chocolate milk box.

"You should be grateful for getting good grades even though you don't like math! Well, me... my math grades always crumble despite my best efforts!"

Max stopped sipping his juice, glancing at Alysha. "I just happened to inherit my stingy mom's math skills."

Alysha pointed at Max with the chocolate milk box she was holding with her left hand. "I'll tell Auntie that you said she was stingy! Let your pocket money be reduced for saying stingy!"

"You snitch!" Max snorted in annoyance.

"Let..." Alysha's voice trailed off suddenly.

"Let what?" Max turned to Alysha.

"EH?!" Max was surprised because Alysha suddenly disappeared even though he had been spinning in place to look for where Alysha had gone.

Max was silent. Still, in the same place, he looked around the school. It was quiet. Not a single student's voice could be heard. All disappeared in a second!

[What happened?!]

With confused steps, Max began to walk silently towards his class. Along the way, Max kept looking left and right or looking at the other empty classrooms through the window. There really wasn't anyone.

GROWLING!!! The sound of the stomach being loud enough made Max sigh. [In an unclear situation like now, why doesn't this belly know itself? Nature's call!]

Max quickly ate his wheat bread that had not been eaten when everything had not disappeared immediately and drank his juice while continuing to walk towards his classroom on the third floor.

Max rubbed his stomach once after finishing two sizable pieces of chocolate-filled wheat bread.

[I hope that with a full stomach, my brain can better understand the current situation.]

Max finally arrived in front of his classroom, opened the door wide, and looked at the entire class from the doorway.

[What the heck is going on? Where is everyone?!]

Still calm and not panicking, Max walked over to the corridor divider and looked down at the ceremonial ground from the third floor.

There really wasn't anyone! Max was born with the ability to see and communicate with spirits, so he immediately remembered every supernatural-related event he had ever experienced from childhood to the last moment of the previous day.

[Since I was a kid, I've never experienced anything like this! This is my first time! I have to be vigilant then!]

Max walked backward, away from the guardrail of the school corridor on the third floor where he would be easily spotted in the open.

The first thing Max did was go back down the school building as planned, looking for the source of why everyone suddenly disappeared in the blink of an eye.

After descending the stairs of the bottom floor of the tenth-grade building, but still near the stairs, Max looked left and right first before deciding to walk.

[Which direction should I choose?]

Max slowly took a deep breath while closing both eyes, trying to focus on using the ability he had had since childhood.

If concentrated, Max will usually be able to feel the presence of the aura of supernatural beings.

Max's eyes opened again and he seemed to become a little nervous.

[I have to find out no matter how strong the aura I feel is! If I just stay silent, I don't know how long I'll be in this situation!]

Max took a deep breath, and looked towards the back garden, Max nodded confidently then stepped steadily and vigilantly towards the back garden of the school.

Max walked without making the slightest sound. Fortunately, the shoes Max wore had rubber soles, so they didn't make a clattering sound with every step, only occasionally making a squeaking sound on the floor when running.

After crossing the corridor from another class that led to the back garden, Max was even more careful in his steps, because the aura he felt was getting stronger.

At the classroom building closest to the back garden of the school, Max walked sneakily then at the end of the building, Max tried to peek at what was behind the classroom building.

Showing just a little bit of his face from behind the wall, Max finally saw something that made him almost scream in fear!

A man with a human body, but animal legs, bat-shaped wings on his back, long claws, reddish hair all over his body, pointed ears and only wearing long pants barefoot was walking away from the back garden of the school. The way he walked was exactly like a bat when on the ground.

Max was shocked to see the creature, and he immediately hid, trying his best not to get scared and panic.

With his back leaning against the wall, Max immediately looked up what the creature was through his cell phone.

[Good thing there's still an internet signal!]

With the keyword 'winged mythical creature' Max googled it. Vampire! A human figure that sucks blood, and can transform into a half-bat creature.

[Oh my god...!!! Aren't vampires a myth?! Especially since it's daytime! Isn't the story that they're weak to the sun?!]

Max felt a sudden strong wind, though only for a few seconds, making Max wary.

Max peered back over the wall to find out what the vampire was doing.

[That vampire doesn't exist?! Where is he?!] Max ventured more to take his head out of hiding. Finding nothing, Max went back to reading the article from Google earlier.

"OH..." came a hoarse and frightening voice suddenly, making Max gasp and immediately look up.

The figure of the vampire man Max had seen earlier was hanging on top of the building, just like a bat hanging in a cave or tree.

Max turned away and backed slowly away from the wall while watching the male vampire in half-bat form.

"IS THAT THE KEYBOARD SOUND I HEARD EARLIER?!"

Max glanced at the cell phone in his left hand which he had just realized from what the vampire had said, that the keyboard was beeping.

Max forgot to turn off the sound of his cell phone even though it was in the quietest setting, of course, the vampire was aware of his presence.

Cold sweat was starting to show on Max's temples, and his heart was beating so fast it seemed to be breaking when he saw the grin of the vampire who was dangling by his feet on the building.

"Hello... human boy!" greeted the male vampire with a creepy drawl, and exposed his fangs.
