Chapter 3 - Akram, The Land of Warriors

Many questions came to the mind of Icarus.

Icarus came to scout Akram for Evos. He was looking for opportunity, whether that be for resources or for manpower to add to Evos's forces, he did not know much at all about the country.

All he knew about Akram, was that the country was considered to be a barbaric land filled with meat heads still fighting with swords and bows. A place with low levels of technology compared to Evos. One that Evos could easily defeat if need be.

After thinking things over, he realized that although Evos prided itself on knowledge they didn't know everything.

"I have a request Reon. Please tell me what you know about Akram." Icarus asked.

Reon considered the question then replied.

"I don't know much as I haven't been here too long, but I'll share what I know." he said.

Both Icarus and Reon were seated now, as Icarus paid close attention to Reon.

"Akram is known as 'The Land of Warriors'." said Reon.

"The strongest warriors rule here, and disagreements are often decided by Duels, one on one battles that can go to the death." he said.

"Hmm." Icarus responded taking notes on everything Reon said.

"Akram's culture, which is quite combat focused, has enabled the country to become one of the most polarizing forces of the Ornamary continent." Reon continued.

"Although Akram is a medium sized country, it still is considered one of the most powerful countries in the known world."

"That is most of what I know about Akram, and it is for those reasons that I have decided to come here to stake my claim."

"Stake your claim? What do you mean?" Icarus asked out of curiosity.

He was satisfied now that he was learning some new information about Akram as this was the main goal of his mission.

"I've come here to become acknowledged as a great warrior, and once I do I will return home and tell my family about my journey." Reon smiled.

Icarus couldn't help but notice similarities in his and Reon's reasons for coming to this country, although there were obviously stark differences as well.

"Well, I'm here for something similar." Icarus smiled at the boy.

"Really?" Reon got excited. "Should we spar then?"

"Uhm, well, no, no." Icarus said.

He was a little startled by the boy's enthusiasm to suddenly request a spar.

He felt it was not a good idea though.

Icarus was one of the elite soldiers of Evos, he trained for years and rose through the ranks.

Part of his training was of course, related to combat skills.

Evos martial arts was a combination of different techniques across disciplines that was designed to neutralize all targets with maximum efficiency.

All elite reconnaissance men like Icarus were trained to master Evos martial arts.

He didn't think it was safe for him to randomly fight a young teen.

"But, I'll tell you what kid, since you helped me a lot by telling me about Akram, I will let you in on a little secret." said Icarus.

"Far far away to the east, is my country of origin, called Evos." said Icarus.

"It's the most technologically advanced country in the world. In Evos there are buildings called skyscrapers that go high into the sky touching the clouds, there are even ships called aircrafts that go miles high." he explained with mystifying grandeur.

"Wow, are you serious!" Reon was amazed by all of the wonders that Icarus described, Evos the most scientifically advanced civilization, Reon took note of this as he did not want to forget.

"So you are a special agent who is here to find out as much as possible about this country and then report back to Evos." Reon asked.

"Yup, and now I know a bit more than when I arrived, thanks to you." Icarus responded

"Hmm." Reon looked down at his fist as if he was contemplating something.

"I've decided, Icarus, one day soon I'll go to Evos and see your nation for myself." Reon said decidedly.

"I thought you were here to become a great warrior, now you want to go to Evos?" smiled Icarus.

"Yes, although I do intend to be acknowledged by this nation, the things you told me about sounded incredible. To go so far away and see such things would be an adventure!" Reon said.

"Well, I," Icarus thought about it, and Evos was looking for more man power due to the coming conflict.

"This kid does already have a drive to become strong, but to take him to Evos to recruit him?" Icarus was not sure if this was a good idea yet.

"Tell you what Reon, one year's time, I'll come find you, and we'll see what you've accomplished." said Icarus.

"Deal!" replied Reon.

A deal was set, giving Reon a new boost of motivation.

"Now, there is something important I'd like to show you. Do you see this watch?" Icarus pointed at the nano watch on his left wrist.

"That weird bracelet on your wrist, yeah what about it." asked Reon.

"Its called a 'Nano Watch', its a powerful tool with many functions meant to allow elite agents to infiltrate any nation without leaving a trace." Icarus explained.

"There are only 12 of these in existence, one of it's functions, you already saw... well I guess 'saw through' is more like it, ha, ha." laughed Icarus.

"There is another cool function that lets me take someone picture, in other words, it lets me capture the image of person so you can see what they look like, like a painting, you know what a painting is right?" asked Icarus.

"Of course." said Reon.

"Perfect." said Icarus as he shifted the function of his watch.

"Can you look at the watch for a moment while a take your picture, I'll show you right after." Icarus smiled.

"Sure, go ahead." said Reon.

Suddenly a bright light flashed from the Nano watch multiple times.

The smile on Reon's face went away as did all emotion, he looked strangely lost.

"Thank goodness the memory reforge function still works." said Icarus.

"Listen Reon, do you hear me?" said Icarus.

"Yes..." Reon said slowly with no emotion.

"Ok, so you were walking through the forest and decided to set up camp, you killed and cooked a rabbit. Very luckily you found a map of the area that someone must have dropped on the ground, the map marks your location, and shows you the fastest route to the nearest village, called Crux, understood?" said Icarus.

"Yes..." Reon said once again.

"Ok, you never met anyone on your journey, but after finding the map you decided to head to Crux to continue working toward your goal, staking your claim like you said. Understood?"

"Yes..."

"Alright, you took a nap at the camp before heading out to Crux. Understood?" asked Icarus.

"Yes..."

"Fall asleep."

"Yes..."

"Fall asleep."

Reon's hazy consciousness drifted slowly drifted away until he fell over, fast asleep.

Icarus propped Reon up against a tree.

"One year kid, well see about you then." said Icarus.
