Chapter 87 - Chapter 87: Setting Off

Angel had wanted to observe how Daley would "examine" Rupert, but didn't expect spirit communication to be even more boring than divination. Daley opened a bottle of distillate, letting Rupert smell it directly, causing him to fall into a strange dazed state. Then she put on her hood, sat opposite Rupert, and remained motionless.

She observed for a while and found that Daley had also entered a kind of spiritual wandering state, her eyes turning white, her expression serious, completely unresponsive to external stimuli.

If she didn't know Daley was a "Spirit Medium," she would definitely think this was a "Nightmare" invading someone else's dreams.

After watching with some boredom for a while, Angel estimated that the spirit communication wouldn't end quickly, so instead of staying in the hall, she returned to her room on the third floor.

Before she left, Morrow and Brandon, who had gone to Yahn Clinic on Fourth Avenue in the Durang District to deal with the "Listener," had also returned to headquarters.

It turned out they had already resolved that member of the "Aurora Society," but due to many ritual magic arrangements and sacrificial items placed in the clinic by the opponent, they had to process them a bit before notifying the police for follow-up, so they returned later than the other two teams.

The other two teams successfully resolved their enemies, only our side fought hard all day and still let "Mr. C" escape... even the corpse of the dead Thomas has disappeared.

Angel felt somewhat discouraged.

She knew that before long, Mr. C's wanted notice would be spread throughout the entire Kingdom of Loen, just like Thomas who was already dead but became a "missing person."

But how effective such wanted notices were, Cole Granger, Tris, and other wanted criminals could probably give unsatisfactory answers.

Fortunately, she had gained quite a bit from this "business trip." Not only had she directly advanced through the non-ordinary characteristic of the "Instigator," but she had also picked up Thomas's magical item. Although she wasn't clear about the negative effects, its powerful abilities had been demonstrated to her by the Sequence 8 Thomas several times during battles.

It's a pity that this stolen item from "Mechanical Heart" couldn't be given to Kavi for appraisal. She could immediately see that it had been used by Thomas...

Looking at the small pocket watch with its hands having moved from 11:58 to 10:00, Angel confirmed once again, it really ran backward at a 1:1 time ratio.

Perhaps when the hands returned to zero, something would happen?

To avoid being affected by negative effects, she carefully placed the watch in the box that originally contained "Blood Thirst," which could isolate spirituality, and put it into her suitcase.

Early the next morning, Angel bid farewell to Daley and Clement, bid farewell to the belated Nighthawks squad from Backlund, and carrying her suitcase, set off on the road back to Tingen City.

After a night's rest, Rupert had basically returned to normal, except for some photophobia, he could eat and communicate normally.

When discussing the experience of seeing the "True Creator" statue through spirit vision, he was still somewhat fearful.

According to his description, under spirit vision, the statue seemed to become a real, blood-dripping inverted male figure. He merely glanced at it carefully and felt signs of losing control of his spirituality. Though he wanted to look away or close his spirit vision, his body couldn't react.

Fortunately, after Angel forcibly interrupted his spirit vision, and Clement initially processed it through Nightmare abilities, he quickly returned to normal.

Daley hadn't found any problems during spirit communication either, but still suggested that he stay in Enmat Port to rest for a few days until his body fully recovered before returning to the Nighthawks squad in Stone City.

Angel didn't have such a nice vacation. Since today was Monday, she needed to attend the "Tarot Meeting" in the afternoon. Worried about being discovered if she stayed at the Nighthawks' headquarters in Enmat Port, she found an excuse and set off early.

Morning in Enmat Port was shrouded in mist, mostly created by the night sea breeze, but also mixed with a lot of industrial exhaust. Some factories even operated around the clock, with people stopping but machines continuing, emitting suffocating harmful gases in three shifts.

After smelling it for several days, Angel had become quite familiar with this atmosphere so different from Tingen City. Now about to leave, she couldn't help feeling a bit reluctant.

Fortunately, Enmat Port was only a few hours' drive from Tingen. If she had time in the future, she could come over for a visit. As she'd heard from Leonard and the others, didn't Ms. Daley also often go to Tingen City...

While planning future holidays in her mind, she carried her suitcase into the steam train station.

The first train to Tingen City in the morning was still preparing for departure. On the other side of the platform should be the line heading to Backlund, where another steam train was stopped on the tracks. The busy and flustered figures of maintenance workers meant this train would likely be delayed.

She found a chair at the waiting area and sat down, eating Enmat Port's special fish cakes, watching the station staff and passengers coming and going hurriedly.

Hmm, that is...

Angel's gaze caught three travelers, two men and one woman, hurrying past her, pausing to watch the steam train under repair, then dejectedly returning to the waiting area, sitting opposite her.

Before she could greet them, the woman also noticed Angel.

"It really is you..."

Kavi from "Mechanical Heart" left the two men and came to Angel's side, sitting unceremoniously in the chair next to her, greeting her.

"Mmm, are you heading to Backlund now?"

Angel recalled Kavi's mention of a "Backlund retirement plan" when they last met.

"I've actually wanted to leave this coastal city for a long time. I have some conflicts with the captain, and there's no chance for promotion if I stay here. I was planning to wait until Bern retired and then..."

At the mention of the elderly "Mechanical Heart" man killed by Thomas, Kavi's mood became a bit low again. She sighed, shifting her gaze to the steam train at the platform preparing to head to Backlund.

"But a change of place is good too. Thomas escaped from your hands again this time. That guy has always been vindictive; he might find an opportunity to kill me. Going to Backlund to start anew also prevents me from falling into this bastard's hands."

"Ah, I'm not saying you didn't do well... That guy has powerful magical items and is familiar with the actions of official supernatural beings. Haven't the previous attempts by 'Mechanical Heart' to capture him all failed..."

As if afraid Angel would misunderstand, she hurriedly added.

"It's alright, and what you said isn't quite accurate. Actually..."

Angel hesitated for a moment, then made up her mind. She stood up, gesturing for Kavi to follow her to a position further away, avoiding the two men who had come with Kavi.

"What do you mean not quite accurate? Are you trying to say Thomas... My goodness, what is this?"

Kavi followed with a puzzled face, about to question Angel, when she saw her take out a small pocket watch from her pocket.

"You can call it 'Thomas's relic,' or 'the pocket watch stolen from Mechanical Heart,' or something like that."

"You mean..." Kavi's breathing became somewhat heavy. She cautiously looked back at the two men sitting far away, who were looking in their direction, and continued in a lowered voice: "That guy is already dead? Where's the body?"

You're not planning to do something irrational, are you...

Angel examined Kavi with a suspicious gaze, before answering after a moment: "I'm certain he's dead. I stabbed him twice in the heart. Supernatural beings of your path shouldn't be able to survive that, right? But for some reason, his body disappeared, so the 'Nighthawks' only reported him as missing to you."

"No wonder the subsequent divination results were so..."

Kavi murmured, shifting her gaze from Angel to the pocket watch in her hand. Her serious expression suddenly turned cunning.

"You mean, for me, for Bern's revenge, so..."

"You want me to appraise this magical item?"

"For free."

Angel emphasized, clutching the pocket with her remaining few pounds sterling.
