EMMA
The second she vanished, the air thinned like even the shadows were holding their breath.
A silence settled over the clearing, not peaceful but watchful, as though the very world was waiting for something else to fall apart.
Her power still clung to the air, dancing in thin threads around us, like static crawling over my skin sharp, electric, and far too familiar. It prickled down my spine and left a taste in my mouth that wasn't entirely my own.
And then her words echoed again…
"Why… does he have your power?"
My breath hitched.
I stared blankly ahead, the trees blurring behind the edges of memory. What did she mean… my power? What connection did she claim to have with me? Why did she look at me like I was supposed to know her?
