Chapter 274 - CHAPTER 274

Humans and Foxes: A Subtle Conflict

With the goal of mastering chakra control, Naruto Uzumaki's daily schedule became incredibly disciplined.

At precisely four in the morning, Naruto sprang out of bed, laced up his sandals, and began his run around Konoha's training grounds. Though the villagers still eyed him warily, he ignored their whispers and continued his routine, determined to grow stronger. After finishing his run, he returned to his small apartment and cooked breakfast, enduring the silent judgment of the townspeople who still saw him as the "demon fox."

Mornings were dedicated to studying. Naruto, despite his struggles in the Academy, had realized that knowledge was crucial to becoming a great shinobi. He devoured scrolls on chakra theory, battle tactics, and the history of the Hokage, hoping to one day live up to the legacy of his father, the Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato—even if he didn't yet know of their connection.

By eleven o'clock, it was time for lunch. Naruto cooked a simple meal, took a brief nap, and then resumed training, refining his chakra control, practicing his Bunshin no Jutsu (Clone Technique), and honing his taijutsu skills.

This grueling routine lasted until sunset. By five o'clock in the afternoon, drenched in sweat, he would drag himself home to rest. At eight, after drinking a warm glass of milk—a habit he had unknowingly adopted from Iruka—Naruto collapsed into bed, ensuring he was ready to do it all over again the next day.

Such a rigid schedule inevitably attracted the attention of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. Watching from afar, Sarutobi was quietly relieved that he had allowed Naruto to grow up outside of ANBU's ranks. He knew the village still shunned the boy, but he hoped that, with time, Naruto would forge his own path—perhaps even one that would lead him to surpass his father.

Yet the villagers' fear never truly faded. To them, Naruto was not a child but a ticking time bomb. The strict decree from the Third Hokage forbade them from speaking of the Nine-Tails sealed within him, but their avoidance was just as telling. To them, Naruto was the yōko—the demon fox. An unlucky omen. A shadow to be ignored.

But deep within Naruto, locked away behind a massive iron gate, the true Nine-Tails, Kurama, watched his host with growing irritation.

A Silent Battle

For months, the fox had waited for Naruto to break, to seek its power in desperation. It expected submission. It expected anger.

But Naruto never faltered.

Instead, a strange, quiet battle had begun between them—a cold war of wills. Naruto refused to acknowledge Kurama's presence, and in turn, Kurama found itself growing restless.

It had known loneliness before. Sealed within jinchūriki after jinchūriki, it had endured centuries of solitude. But this was different.

Kurama had become used to Naruto. The brat was noisy, stubborn, and unyielding. Their clashes were loud, their exchanges sharp with sarcasm. And now, without that conflict, the silence in its cage felt… empty.

Unwilling to accept this, Kurama began subtly releasing slivers of its chakra, hoping to disrupt Naruto's training.

The effect was immediate.

Bang!

A puff of smoke exploded in the training field as Naruto's attempted Henge no Jutsu (Transformation Technique) failed spectacularly. The blond landed in a crouch, clutching his head in frustration.

Kurama grinned, his deep laughter echoing through the seal. This was exactly what he wanted.

But something was off.

Despite his irritation, Naruto's lips twitched into a smirk.

Kurama narrowed his eyes. What's with that look…?

It wasn't long before he realized the truth—Naruto had been using his interference as training.

By counteracting Kurama's chaotic chakra, Naruto was refining his own control, treating it as an advanced version of the tree-climbing and water-walking exercises.

The brat wasn't just enduring the interference—he was benefiting from it.

A Tactical Exchange

A few days later, their unspoken war continued.

Kurama, growing suspicious, finally addressed Naruto directly.

"Brat, you're using my chakra to train yourself, aren't you?"

Naruto blinked innocently. "Huh? What are you talking about, big fox?"

Kurama scoffed. "Don't play dumb. The amount of chakra I've been leaking is consistent, yet you're adapting too quickly. By now, you should be failing more. Instead, you're using it to sharpen your control."

Naruto grinned. "Oh? So you admit you've been trying to mess with me?"

Kurama froze. He had walked straight into that one.

The fox huffed, turning his head. "Tch. You should be grateful. A jinchūriki with poor chakra control is worthless to me."

Naruto's smirk widened. "Ah, so you are training me, huh? Thanks, Kyuubi-sensei."

Kurama twitched. "What did you just call me?!"

Naruto stretched lazily. "Oh, nothing. You must have misheard."

Without another word, he turned and strolled out of the seal, leaving Kurama stewing in his cage, muttering under his breath.

But the nickname had stuck.

And, much to Kurama's dismay, he didn't entirely hate it.

Unseen Watchers

Days passed, and their odd routine continued. Sarcastic jabs were exchanged, minor sabotage attempts foiled, and, little by little, the line between hostility and companionship blurred.

Then, one evening, Kurama spoke up.

"Brat, I have something to tell you."

Naruto perked up, slightly surprised by the fox's serious tone.

"Every time you leave this place, there are shinobi tracking you. You know that, right?"

Naruto stilled. "ANBU?"

Kurama nodded. "Hiruzen's lapdogs. They report your every move."

Naruto sighed. He had suspected as much but had no way to confirm it—until now.

With newfound caution, he glanced toward the treetops beyond his training area, then murmured to Kurama, "So, where's the one watching me now?"

Kurama smirked. "Lucky guess, brat. Look to your left."

Naruto shifted his gaze ever so slightly.

And there, just barely visible in the shadows of the trees—

A masked figure.

Watching.

Waiting.

A sharp grin spread across Naruto's face.

He was being watched.

But now, for the first time—

He was aware.

And with that knowledge, the real game began.
