(Astrid POV)
"I… I don't know."
"Can you tell me where you're staying?"
I was surprised Kael hadn't figured out yet that I'd been staying at Brady's pack, but I also knew it was probably for the best that he didn't know. I looked at him and grimaced.
"I'm sorry, Kael, but I can't."
Kael frowned.
"Then promise me you'll reach out to me. In three months."
"Three months? You mean on your birthday?"
At first, he smiled, but then he looked guilty.
"You remembered… without having to look it up in a file."
"Yeah… you're the future alpha, after all. It's an important date to know," I teased, trying to make a joke out of it. "I'll contact you on your birthday."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
Kael leaned down and kissed me. I returned the kiss, recognizing there was a possibility this could be the last time I ever kissed him.
"Astrid. It's time to go," Brady mind-linked.
I pulled away from Kael.
"I really have to go."
