I waited patiently as Brady paused. At this point in the story, I did not know what to think, and I was afraid of which direction the story might go.


Brady did not hold me in suspense long.


"Evelyn was thrilled to discover that we were mates," Brady continued, "and a big part of me was happy too. However, 20-year-old me also panicked. I kept thinking about the fact that being mated to Evelyn meant that I would never know what it felt like to have sex with others. I would also never get to experience the excitement of 'love at first sight.'


The more my panic set in, the more I realized that I had to get out of there. I turned around and ran back to the packhouse. Kalen was screaming at me to go back to our mate, but I just couldn't bring myself to do so.
