Chapter 453 - Chapter 404: Sailor Moon Preparation and A Mistake

Friday, 19 December 1992

Following the release of the UFO Catcher, Zaboru turned his attention to preparing for the launch of Sailor Moon. That evening, he paid a visit to YaDo Studio and met with its owner, Yasu Domachi. Although Zaboru had acquired YaDo, he allowed Yasu to remain in creative control, fully respecting the older man's passion and commitment to his studio.

They sat down in a modest meeting room, and Yasu began the conversation. "Zaboru-san, the SpongeBob anime has been a huge success. TV ratings are outstanding, and the profit margins have exceeded expectations."

Zaboru nodded. "That's great to hear. I already have ideas for a second season script, but we'll hold off on that for now."

Yasu smiled. "In the meantime, I've been expanding YaDo Animation Studio. We've brought on several new animators—experienced professionals, not just fresh graduates."

Yasu then grinned. "I can't believe YaDo has grown so big and successful. If I died right now, I'd have no regrets—though don't worry, I'm not planning on dying anytime soon! There's still so much I want to create."

Zaboru grinned. "Excellent. Don't die just yet, Yasu-san—greatness still awaits you in the years, or even decades, to come," he said with a chuckle. "Now, about Sailor Moon—are we ready to launch?"

The two had finalized the voice cast back in mid-November, so everything was moving according to plan.

"Yes," Yasu confirmed. "The anime is complete and scheduled to air this Sunday, 21 December On TV Tokyo. Still, I'm unsure how the audience will respond. Personally, I think it's very good."

"It's fine," Zaboru said. "Initially, I wanted to release the Sailor Moon game alongside the anime, but I've decided to delay it. Launching the game simultaneously might spoil key plot points. We'll release it in February or March 1993 instead."

"That makes sense," Yasu said. "So, do you already have ideas for our next projects after Sailor Moon?"

Zaboru grinned. "Of course. But let me ask—can YaDo handle two anime projects at once with your current team?"

Yasu paused, then replied, "We can manage two, but not truly at the same time."

"What if one airs in March and the other in June?"

Yasu nodded. "That sounds doable. We'll manage it."

Zaboru placed two project folders on the table. One read Let's & Go and the other, simply, Gundam.

Zaboru had recently realized that Gundam had yet to appear in this world. In his original world, it debuted in 1979, meaning it should have aired in 1989 here due to the ten-year entertainment delay. But it hadn't. Upon double-checking, he confirmed its absence. A strange oversight, even with all his reincarnation perks.

He suspected that Nippon Sunrise, the original anime studio, didn't exist in this world. He even wondered whether Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of Gundam, existed at all. Zaboru resolved to look into it later. . The rules of this new world were inconsistent; some anime like Voltes V, Time Bokan, and Gatchaman had carried over, while others had not. Still, he was determined to correct this oversight.

Yasu opened the folders. Let's & Go was a racing anime loosely based on R.C. Pro-AM, featuring character sheets, storyboards, and detailed mini-car schematics. The Gundam file contained concept art, character profiles, and fully designed blueprints for the Gundam units—mechas locked in dramatic space warfare.

Yasu looked up, eyes wide. "Zaboru-san, why did you even create technical blueprints for fictional machines?"

Zaboru smiled. "Because I wanted to. It helps with consistency and visual accuracy" Zaboru grinned. "Besides, who doesn't love big mechas and cool R.C. cars? No one!"

Yasu chuckled and shook his head. "All right. So, Let's & Go for March, and Gundam for June?"

"Correct. And for Gundam, spare no expense. Make it cinematic. If you need more time or budget, I'll provide both."

"Understood."

Their meeting wrapped up, and Zaboru returned to ZAGE HQ later that night. As he settled back into his office, he muttered, "I can't believe I forgot Gundam."

Then, reflecting more seriously, he thought, In the future, many things might symbolize Japan, but few are as iconic as Gundam. Maybe Pokémon comes close, but Gundam holds a special place. You hear 'Gundam,' you think of Japan.

He leaned back in his chair, promising himself to be more vigilant moving forward. I need to improve my knowledge. Not just of anime and manga, but also U.S. cartoons and comics. That way, I'll know what exists in this world and what doesn't.

From that moment on, Zaboru resolved to actively research global entertainment trends—comics, cartoons, manga, and anime alike. After all, despite the current year being 1992, the entertainment world around him still lingered creatively in 1982.

He also made a mental note to track down the creators of other iconic intellectual properties from his previous life, those he assumed would already exist in this world, much like the creator of Gundam but whose presence remained uncertain.
