Chapter 11 - Identification sphere

After the battle of Nim, the remaining participants went down to take the test. Some failed, and others, luckier, passed by a very narrow margin.

In the end, everyone had taken the test. In total, eight people had passed, which was half of all the participants.

Nim, who had been patiently waiting, smiled as he saw the last participant finish.

—Very well, everyone who passed the test, follow me!

The instructor led the group of eight out of the battle arena. After a few minutes of walking, they arrived at a large door.

This door looked different from all the others they had seen throughout the journey.

The large door had images of various magical creatures, and in the center there was an opening.

The instructor took a deep breath and began to emit a faint light. Then he raised a hand and inserted that luminous energy into the opening.

The door responded by glowing with strange patterns, as it began to open slowly.

Nim and the others were surprised to see the reaction of that strange door. What lay behind it was probably something important.

After a few more seconds, the door finished opening completely.

The instructor crossed the door, followed by Nim and the others.

The room they entered was spacious, but completely empty all around.

Only a medium-sized white sphere rested in the center of the room. Furthermore, that sphere was placed on top of a scepter.

—Everyone listen, this sphere is called the identification sphere. You will need to place your hand on the sphere in order to obtain your identification card.

The instructor calmly explained to the participants.

—Alright, whoever wants to go first may step forward and begin, don't be afraid, it's quite simple.

The instructor said the last sentence after noticing that no one was approaching the sphere. Just as he was about to say something else, a young man stepped forward.

Nim, seeing that no one was moving, chose to go first. With firm steps, he approached the white sphere and placed his hand on its surface.

The sphere, which had not shown any reaction until now, began to emit a slight glow. Moments later, it illuminated the entire room.

Nim, who stood in front of the sphere, didn't notice the glow. At that moment, he was fully focused on the strange sensation that was overtaking him.

After a few seconds, the sphere of light began to dim. Until it returned to normal, becoming dull as it was at the beginning.

Nim finally came out of the small trance and began to observe his body. Making a few movements, he didn't feel any change.

—How was it, what did you feel?

The instructor asked Nim, observing his behavior.

—When I touched the sphere I felt a strange sense of connection with it —Nim had his doubts about that strange feeling, so he answered honestly.

—That feeling is normal, everyone feels it when they touch the sphere for the first time.

The instructor continued —now try to summon your identification card.

Nim made a motion with his hand and a grayish identification card appeared.

The card had Nim's name and level written on it, the section for his class was blank.

—Good, now I'll explain a few functions of the card. First of all, this card can be stored within the adventurer's body. The information written on the card only shows three things: the name, the level, and the class —said the instructor.

—Also, now that you're linked to the sphere, you can see your current level and class, as well as other features, just by thinking about it.

Upon hearing this last part, Nim tried to view his data mentally.

[Race: Human]

[Name: Nim]

[Age: 13 years]

[Level: 7]

[Class: Not acquired]

Seeing that information, Nim was amazed. It was incredible that something like that existed.

Seeing that he still didn't have a class, he thought a bit about it and more information appeared.

[Class: Warrior]

[Requirements]

-Kill 50 monsters with any close-range weapon

-Be level 10

[Status]

-Does not meet level requirement

Nim could also see the requirements for acquiring a class.

He also saw the swordsman class and realized it required the same number of monsters.

Only that it had to be done with a sword. He had fulfilled the first requirement for both classes, he just needed the level to be able to acquire one.

The instructor, who was still explaining some things about the card, saw Nim staring into space while immersed in his thoughts. Seeing this, he knew the latter was exploring the card's functions.

—Lastly, if you want to show your level and class to someone, you can do this.

The instructor pulled out his card with a movement of his hand, and afterward, his card emitted a slight glow and projected some words.

[Name: Jhon]

[Level: 27]

[Class: Great Swordsman]

—You can choose the information you want to display.

After a few seconds, the projection disappeared and the instructor put his card away.

—Alright, I've explained the essential things about the card. If you want to know more functions, you'll have to figure them out yourself. Now continue.

After the instructor finished, the others began to step forward to obtain their own card.

Nim, who had already stepped aside, kept exploring more functions of the card.

Uncle Smith hadn't given him much information about it.

He had only told him it was better to experience it firsthand since it was hard to explain.

He hadn't even used a projection of his card when he trained Nim. In any case, that no longer mattered now, since he had finally obtained his own card.

Several minutes later, everyone had obtained their own card. They were all immersed in exploring the card's functions just as Nim had done at the beginning.

—Alright, now all of you are officially adventurers. I'll only say one word: "survive."

At the end, the instructor opened the door again.

All the new adventurers went out and started heading to the guild's great hall. Now that they were adventurers, they wanted to take a mission or find a group to enter the dungeon.

Nim especially wanted to do the latter. He was considering looking for a group or simply entering alone.

Still undecided, he arrived at the guild's great hall. Upon arriving, he was greeted by the usual noise.

In the end, he decided to try joining a group. He just had to go to the bulletin board and check if anyone was looking for teammates.

Or, if not, he could approach some adventurers or groups that were around the room.

It was easy to tell who was looking for a group. These were projecting their identification card while talking with other adventurers.

With that in mind, he went to ask the people who were looking for a group. After several attempts, he realized something: no one wanted to accept him.

The adventurers he had asked turned him down right after he projected his identification card.

When he asked one of the friendlier adventurers, he explained that no one wanted to take him because his level was too low and he would end up being a burden.

He also recommended that he look for teammates under level 10.

After hearing that, Nim questioned again whether it was really a good idea to join a group. If he entered with low-level adventurers, most likely they wouldn't be able to keep up with him.

In the end, it seemed he would have to go in alone. Normally, adventurers preferred to form groups of three or five people. With such a team, they felt safer facing the dangers of the dungeon.

Although there were also those who went in on their own, they were few. The dungeon was not a kind place to loners.
