"Let's put them in their place master! Kakaka!" Haunter let a sharp cackle out as he glowed with an aura of ghostly power, an intimidation tactic that seemed to work.
"[Shadoe Ball]"
"Counter with a [Seed Bomb] and then use [Grassy Terrain]!" Erika used back.
Hm, taking advantage of the loose definition of grounded pokemon to keep full health and boost your grass moves power by 50%, as expected of my sixth badge battle. Starting off strong.
"Haunter, show them that boosting isn't everything. Let get blasting!" I called out as Haunter cackled before multiple tiny shadow balls were fired off from his mouth.
We hadn't been able to make the pillars work as a way to fire off attacks, so we tried something else.
[Mini-Shadow Ball] was the technique we came up with. Not as powerful as a full [Shadow Ball], but against a Pokemon which while having a decent defense against non physical moves, still would hurt a bit.
"[Bullet Seed] to destory those and start preparing for a Beam!"
Beam? Oh! A [Solar Beam] at this point was devious.
"Prevent that Haunter!" I called out and he did so, by using a classic.
[Sucker Punch]
A direct hit slammed into Jumpluff sending them flying into the ground as a shadow fist hit them from above, hard.
"Jumpluff are you ok?" Erika asked worried.
"Jump!" Their cheerful voice rang out before a bright beam was fired off towards Haunter from the dust of the smackdown area.
Fuck!
"[SUBSTITUTE!]" I yelled out instinctively as a doll appeared in Haunter's place as he vanished.
The beam composed of light slammed into the doll shredding it apart into pieces and fading away as the beam died down.
The field laid empty besides Jumpluff who was panting slightly before they started glowing with the sunlight beaming down on them from the giant glass windows.
Oh how sneaky~
"[Shadow Pillars]!" I called out as large giant pillars made of shadows rose out of the ground and slammed into Jumpluff who started dodging them.
"Join in on the game of tag Haunter." I called out before Haunter zoomed in with the move [Shadow Claw] being used to directly attack Jumpluff.
"[Dark Ball] full power!" I ordered as Haunter let a even more ominous cackle out.
"One ball of mayhem coming right up!" He laughed as the move charged up in his hand as he appeared out of one of the pillars and fired it off.
It was a direct hit.
"Point challenger!" The referee called out.
Jumpluff laid unconscious in the middle of the field as Haunter cackled and returned to floating in front of me.
Wait, why didn't I use my poison moves for super effective advantage? Ugh, I need to focus more on type advantages, even if they aren't everything.
"Come on out, Tangrowth!"
Damnit. I didn't want to deal with this just yet. Most likely I'll have to worry about a sunny weather bonus greatly effecting them positively. Ugh.
Ok, we got this, Haunter I trust in you to handle this.
"Let's go Haunter!" I said with a smile.
"Yeah! Let's show them their place below us!" Haunter cackled as a [Shadow Ball] started forming in his hands.
"[Sunny Ingrain]!" Erika ordered right off the bat.
"STOP THEM!" I yelled as Haunter fired off a couple [Shadow Ball]'s at Tangrowth who leapt out the way as the sun got brighter.
[Sunny Day] plus [Ingrain] equals massive fucking pain in my ass to deal with. Not to mention most likely having the ability Chlorophyll, this just got much harder, the effects of [Grassy Terrain] was still lingering, so its health would recover from any damage done to it.
"Into the ground! Blast the roots!" I ordered as Haunter flew into the ground and the field started shaking as dark whips of energy rose up from below at times.
[Shadow Pillars] started popping up out of the field randomly and I went wide eye as I saw the pattern of the pillars, then soon whisp of energy started taking shape from them, circles of dark energy forming.
However I was expecting them to be [Dark Pulse]'s, but no, they weren't that, no, instead they formed a giant version of Haunter cackling in between the pillars.
Oh smart! He was mimicking the illusion ability of Zoroark somehow, and using it to project himself with a combination of the move [Substitute] as a base material to anchor it in place.
"How do you like me now huh!? I'm huge! Kakakaka!" Haunter was living his best undead life here, and I'm all here for it.
"[Knock Off]" Erika called out as a dark hand formed and went to hit the giant Haunter who merely cackled as his own giant hand made of swirling ghostly and dark energy formed as it swatttwd the hand away before slamming the much bigger hand down onto Tangrowth.
"Don't stop there, hit them with a [Dark Ball]!" I ordered as Haunter cackled before he suddenly appeared behind Tangrowth, looking normal as always, if not a bit more evil, and point blank [Dark Ball] at his opponent.
"[POWER WHIP]!" Erika yelled out as one of the vines on Tangrowth smacked at Haunter as the [Dark Ball] landed.
"Haunter!?"
"Tangrowth!?"
When the smoke cleared it revealed a double unconsciousness Haunter and Tangrowth.
No wait, both were pushing themselves up, Haunter slowly started floating up, and Tangrowth was using his vines to stand again.
"You can do it Haunter/Tangrowth!" We called out to our Pokemon as both finally were up firmly, Haunter in the air as his body started glowing. Tangrowth was glowing with the energy of Synthesis. Not to heal, but for an attack.
"One final all out attack?" I asked Erika who smiled.
"Tangrowth, prepare your strongest [Solar Beam]." She ordered and I grinned.
"Haunter, absorb the residual energy of the [Shadow Pillars] and prepare one final [Dark Ball] with all your power." I ordered as Haunter slowly floated back to in between the pillars which turned into shadows and started moving to form the attack.
I watched as Haunter seemingly grew in size slightly as his body glowed with ghostly dark energy, pulsating, just ready to be unleashed.
"FIRE!" I yelled, and I'm pretty sure I heard Erika yell the same thing as me, but I was too focused on Haunter to listen.
It was in slow motion for me, the beam of sunlight clashed against the ball of dark ghostly energies, and I knew what would happen, Haunter was tired, but that was ok.
"Now!" I ordered as Haunter cackled before he shot into the ground, left in his place was a very familiar doll, the one used for the illusion of the giant Haunter, it was never actually attacked, so it was lying around, and Haunter had sneakily brought it into his body under the coverage of all the energy he had absorbed from the pillars.
"[Sludge Wave]" I called out as Haunter rose from the ground and a wave of sludge rose with him to slam into Tangrowth who cried out in pain.
In that same moment the [Dark Ball] lost the fight and the [Solar Beam] slammed into the doll causing it to pop.
The resulting dust cloud covered the field, I could make a faint outline of Haunter in the distance floating on the air.
"Knockout, Gym Leader!" The referee called out as the smoke was blowed out by a fan from the ceiling, and proepely unconscious was Tangrowth, Haunter cackled above in the air proudly proclaiming his victory.
"Kakakaka, look who's superior you stupid plant, me, that's who! We won, not you! Kakakaka!"
As expected of my ghost.
"You did well Tangrowth, rest up. Come on out, Victreebel!" Erika said as she recalled her Pokemon and sent out the next one.
"Haunter, you did well too, rest up, let the others have a turn." I said smirking, but Haunter and I knew full well he was running on fumes and exhausted.
"Come on out, Lapras!" I was gonna try a risky strategy, so let's see how it goes. Time to truly test how type advantages can be used even when it's against you.
"Let us win master!" Lapras sang a small song as he appeared on the field happily.

Sorry for the wait on the chapter, got into a small… incident… yeah let's stick with calling it that, and my phone was damaged during it, I only was recently able to get it replaced.
