Chapter 108 - Toast and apple slices

"More?"

Christian reached into the drawer beside the bed and pulled out a small envelope. My stomach flipped.

"What is that?"

He handed it to me without a word. My fingers trembled as I opened it. Inside was a printed document, a revised version of our contract.

I scanned it quickly. The end date was gone. The entire section about marriage duration… missing.

"I talked to the lawyers," he said. "Told them to dissolve the contract as it stands. It doesn't make sense anymore. I don't want this to be something you feel trapped in. I want you to stay because you want to."

My heart thudded wildly in my chest.

"You want to end the contract?"

"I want us to be something real. Without fine print. Without conditions. Just you and me."

Tears spilled over again before I could stop them.

"I—Christian, are you sure? This is… it's everything changing."

He nodded. "Everything already has."

I didn't know what to say. The idea of our contract ending had haunted me these past few months.
