Chapter 22 - The invitation.

"Before you go," Strider's voice echoed from his skeletal form, frost swirling between his bones, "I have a proposition."

Winter paused, turning back to face his otherworldly ally. "I'm listening."

"My cavern in the mountains... it could serve as a sanctuary for those with gifts like yours." Frost crystals danced around Strider's skull as he spoke. "Your friends included."

Winter raised an eyebrow. "You'd welcome others into your domain?"

"You gave me this vessel, Winter. The least I can do is offer shelter to those who might need it." Strider's ethereal voice carried a warmth that contrasted with his icy form. "The company will keep sending more. Having a secure location to retreat to could mean the difference between life and death."

Winter considered this for a moment, watching the way the dark ice moved fluidly around Strider's enhanced skeleton. "I'll extend the invitation. Though I can't guarantee they'll accept."

"Very well." Strider's skeletal hand gestured toward the mountains. "You know where to find me."

With a nod, Winter began his journey back to the cabin, leaving Strider to acclimate to his new form. The proposition weighed on his mind – perhaps having a safe haven wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.

When Winter reached the cabin, he found Eldo and Kyo sparring outside, testing their newfound abilities against each other. Small scorch marks and static burns dotted the ground around them.

"Having fun?" Winter called out, causing both boys to jump.

"You're back!" Kyo exclaimed, electricity still crackling around his fingers.

Eldo's hands remained aflame as he eyed Winter suspiciously. "What happened out there? The temperature dropped so low we could feel it even here."

"Let's just say I ran into some old colleagues," Winter replied, leaning against the cabin wall. "But more importantly, I have an offer for both of you."

The boys exchanged glances before Eldo spoke up. "What kind of offer?"

"How would you feel about having a secure place to train? Somewhere the company can't easily reach?" Winter watched their reactions carefully. "My... friend has extended an invitation to his sanctuary in the mountains."

"Friend?" Kyo tilted his head. "You mean the one in that cave?"

Winter nodded. "Strider. He's different now – stronger. And he's offering his domain as a safe haven for all of us."

Eldo's flames dimmed slightly as curiosity overcame his suspicion. "A sanctuary in the mountains? That actually sounds... pretty cool."

"Then it's settled," Winter pushed off from the wall. "Pack what you need. We leave at dawn."
