Upon opening his eyes Felix saw horror peering down at him. It was an infected. Felix's heart skipped a beat as he saw the infected over the bathroom's wall, Felix dropped to the floor causing the toilet's cover to slam down. Upon impact immediately the infected got agitated and swirled over the wall charging towards the noise. Felix's mind had not processed movement, but his body did as he unlocked the bathroom door and slammed it shut. The infected barged at the door, but Felix used all his strength and pushed against the door. He had forgotten all about his sprained ankle and while he was pushing against the door a painful feeling sliced into his ankle, he gritted his teeth almost losing balance, but he did not yield, knowing if he was to ease up from the door even a little the infected might push pass. Felix felt a shiver ran down his spine and that's when he noticed his mistake, he had made too much noise. Felix was thinking of a way to counteract when a infected appeared in the bathroom following the sounds that echoed the bathroom. The new arriving infected charged toward Felix as he tried to think of a plan to escape both. When the infected was a hand reach away Felix shifted to the side releasing the door and the infected rushed out charging into the incoming one. As both infected crashed to the floor Felix took the opportunity not wasting a second and ran out of the bathroom.
Felix rushed out limping a little running into the darkness, he felt a feeling of fear squeezing his gut as the darkness casted his sight away, it was dark out and it frightened him, now his vision was limited. He would not be able to see around every corner, every man liked to see their enemies coming and Felix was no different. A few lights on the school buildings were on, but they wouldn't be of much help. Normally someone would turn on the lights after closing hours, but due to the outbreak that was no longer the case. The school was now drowning in darkness and only a few fireflies shed mercy on Felix. It was silent, too silent. Felix thought maybe it was best to wait out the night somewhere, but around every corner and in every room death might be waiting, if he were to fall asleep and morning came where everything would be visible he might die before waking up. On the other hand his class was a distance away and the infected might be roaming the corridors and if he got caught between paths jumping out the windows might not do him any good as he could still feel the sting in his ankle. Felix rummaged through his clothes and found his phone, he switched on the flashlight to get a clearer view, he turned to the side where he met the utter horror of an infected face. The sight shocked Felix causing him to drop his phone, the infected pounced on Felix as he struggles to kick it away. Only his foot with the sprained ankle was free, but despite that Felix put all the strength into his foot and rammed it into the infested's gut. He did his best to hurry away immediately standing to his feet not bothering to reach for his phone. Remembering the layout of the buildings and the turns he made Felix dragged himself back to the school building. Felix thought due to the place being dark he could hide from the infected, but he felt a strong feeling that he was being followed. He knew they had good hearing, bad eye sight and they also could climb walls, but not maybe all of them had the same ability. Did they have night vision? Maybe some of the infected could do what the others couldn't. As Felix drowned himself into multiple hypothesis he heard movements in a distance. Felix moved faster not bothering to think anymore.
Everyone in the classroom huddled together. They laid on the floor or rested their backs against the wall using their bags as pillows. Everyone was silent, but there were a few who wanted to use the bathroom badly, they tried to keep quiet but then a girl finally spoke up.
"I need to pee" she said nervously. Others felt relieved that someone brought up the topic and then others said they also needed to use the bathroom. A small group of students gathered and they slowly crept in fear from the class room. The way to the bathroom was s distance and no one wanted to take the risk especially in the dark, so they walked together to a nearby classroom. The classroom was empty, silent and was lit by moonlight, a student gathered books together opening them and piling them. The books would be used to dry their urine. They would have to urinate onto the pages that would be used to soak everything, they found it slightly disgusting, but they didn't have a better choice. One by one all eight students urinated onto the contents of the books, when they were done they wiped their hands with wipes that they found in someone's bag. They cautiously started walking back to their class doing their best to be as silent as a grave. As they were walking a girl slightly shivered from the cold, she had a strange feeling coming up her nose and she tried to held back, but then she sneezed. Instantly the others stopped moving as they felt their hearts sank, they felt fear climbing up their throat's as they started to tremble, even though the night was cold their fear caused them to shed sweat. No one moved listening closely to the surroundings, but they heard nothing.
"Let's keep moving" A boy named Cornell whispered. They heard his voice and started walking again.
Felix moved from wall to wall with the lingering feeling that he was being followed, he couldn' t see what or who was trailing him, but he knew something was. Felix finally reached the building his homeroom was on and entered through a window. He walked along the pathways hiding and scanning the pathway before him behind the corners. Felix was climbing the stairs and was on the last step when he heard something that rolled across the floor behind him, he turned around looking in the direction but saw nothing . As his head was turned a fowl smell filled his nostril, he immediately looked around coming face to face with an infected, he was startled and fell back. He tried keeping his balance, but because of his injured ankle he stumbled down and his head hit the sharp part of a stair. Felix blacked out for a second before landing at the foot of the stairs. He shook his heading lifting his body up a little, the infected swiftly jump flying over a few stairs before falling onto Felix, Felix did his best not to panic as he scanned his surrounding spotting a ruler close by, he reached out as far as he could when the ruler magically moved towards him. He was surprised but didn't bother questioning anything about it as he gripped the ruler and shove it down the infected's eye socket. Felix wrestled with the infected ending up on top and when he did he repeatedly stabbed the infected until it barely moved. He dropped to the side panting heavily.
"I know your there" Felix said while catching his breath.
Whomever or whatever was behind the walls trembled upon hearing Felix's statement, they clasped their hands their mouth and remained quiet.
"You've been following me haven't you" Felix added, his statement sounding like a question. The figure behind the wall's did not move. Felix took the ruler from the infected's throat as blood gushed out. The sound of flesh separating could be heard.
"Aren't you going to come out?" Felix asked slowly walking towards the wall. The person behind the wall trembled hearing the footsteps approaching closer that sounded like drums within their ears. They were shaking all over but mustered the courage and came out from hiding. Felix was stunned stopping in his tracks as he looked down, it wasn't an infected, coming face to face he looked down on a child. The little girl had tears in her eyes as she tried to sniffle back more tears and her entire body was shaking as she held both hands to her chest. Even though Felix wasn't an infected he looked like a monster more even so than the mindless infected, he was covered in blood, slightly slump to the side, his clothes and hair disheveled, he held on the ruler, his weapon very tightly with a strong grip as blood dripped from his fist with his dark pinning gaze. The girl stood shaking not being able to talk out of fear. She knew he was still normal, but he frightened her more than the abnormal ones.
" Who are you?" Felix asked looking at the frightened child. He finds her somewhat familiar, but he couldn't fully put a finger on it. He looked at the girl who was still too scared to speak. Felix then finally remembers where he had seen her. She was one of the teachers child, she was loved by many students for her cute and polite personality, he doesn't know her but he had seen her at least once or twice and even heard about her. While in thought he heard movements, he quickly changed his thoughts and thought it was best if he moved on.
"Let's go" Felix spoke so she could hear. She made the step of an ant barely any movement. Felix told her they needed to move faster, he knew she was scared, she was young and he could understand that. He took off his shirt wiping the blood from his face and arms before dropping his shirt to the side. He kneeled down to her level and placed the ruler down, he slowly stretched his hand out.
"It's ok" he said. The little girl felt a little better as she walked up to him still shaking. Felix took her hand as gently as he could and started moving forward again.
