063: Winning Streak, Unstoppable Froakie!!
"Froakie, shake it off use Bubble now!"
"Croak!!" Responding to Ash's command with swift precision, Froakie puckered its mouth, eyes narrowing in intense focus as it lined up its shot.
In that instant, Froakie resembled a living Peashooter, launching rapid-fire streams of water droplets from its mouth like a barrage of high-pressure pellets. Each bubble shimmered with blue light as it shot forward with purpose.
On the opposite end of the field, Venonat its compound eyes still obscured by the sticky remnants of Froakie's Frubbles was unable to properly track its opponent. Blind and vulnerable, Venonat tried to sidestep the incoming attack but could only turn awkwardly in confusion, unable to judge direction.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Kon...Piiing!!" The relentless assault hit home. Unlike the tenacious Fighting-type Machop from the previous match, Venonat lacked comparable endurance. After just two clean hits from Froakie's Bubble barrage, its knees buckled, and the Bug-type collapsed to the ground unable to continue the fight.
Just like Machop before it, Venonat never once managed to close the distance to Froakie, let alone land a single hit. Ash's command timing and Froakie's precision had completely controlled the battlefield.
"Venonat is unable to battle! Froakie is the winner!" declared the referee, raising a red flag to signify Froakie's third victory.
"Thanks for your effort, Venonat. Come back and rest." Ju Juping, though disappointed, quickly returned his fainted partner into its Poké Ball with practiced care. His grip was firm, but his eyes carried a quiet acceptance.
Losing always stung, but for most of these young Trainers, both joy and frustration came and went like sudden gusts of wind.
Besides, the Pokémon used in these matches were all freshly distributed from Professor Oak's Lab, and the levels were standardized mostly around LV.5. Victory came not from stats alone, but from the strategies and coordination of the Trainer.
And in this match, there was no question. Ash's ability to assess the field, counter opposing moves, and adapt mid-battle was far more refined than Ju Juping's. The outcome, though tough, felt fair.
"Ash, you and your Froakie were incredible! It's hard to believe you just met him. Your synergy is like that of seasoned partners," Ju Juping said as he approached, extending a hand with a genuine smile.
"Thanks. You and Venonat fought well too," Ash replied calmly, accepting the handshake without any arrogance. "I look forward to a rematch one day."
The exchange felt sincere, and those watching sensed it. Around the perimeter of the dam, students broke into spontaneous applause.
"Ash... Ash...!!"
"Ash!! Ash!!"
His strength was undeniable, but what impressed the crowd even more was his humility his ability to win decisively while still treating his rivals with respect.
The format of the training camp battles was simple: students chose their own Rivals, entered the battle ring, fought a 1-on-1 match, and then exited the field to heal their Pokémon at Nurse Joy's mobile recovery center before facing someone new.
But Ash had changed the tempo. While most participants battled once and rotated out, Ash had just finished three consecutive victories without pause.
"He's done it again three in a row! Who is this guy, anyway?"
"Is he planning to just keep going? Doesn't he know when to stop?"
"This is wild. Professor Oak gave everyone Pokémon at the same base level... Froakie started at LV.5 like the rest. But it's already been through three full battles. How does it still have the stamina?!"
Indeed, murmurs spread as students exchanged glances, unsure whether to be impressed, intimidated, or inspired. Ash wasn't just battling—he was running the equivalent of a gym gauntlet.
And from the confident look in his eyes, it didn't seem like he planned to stop any time soon.
"After three straight wins, it feels like Ash is letting his momentum carry him rather than thinking rationally anymore."
"Anyone else want to step up? If you can break Ash and Froakie's winning streak, your name's bound to be remembered by everyone in camp."
Despite Ash and Froakie racking up three consecutive victories, their dominant performance hadn't deterred the ambition of others. On the contrary, several students eager for the glory that came with being named one of the camp's top trainees were getting restless, itching for a chance to make their mark.
"Shauna, do you think Ash is seriously planning to complete all five battles back-to-back?" Yvette asked, watching the determined, black-haired boy at the center of the field.
"It sounds exactly like something Ash would do. But still, I'm worried. If he keeps pushing, Froakie's stamina might not last. Going for five matches straight feels like overkill," Shauna replied, concern flickering in her voice.
While the four girls Shauna, Yvette, Serena, and Bonnie watched Ash with worry, the boys clustered near Gary were full of unshakable confidence.
"No need to worry. Ash may be impulsive, but he's not stupid," Gary said, brushing a hand through his hair confidently. "Did you notice during the last three matches? Froakie's hardly moved from its position. Ash has been conserving its stamina the whole time."
"Yeah," another student nodded. "He's kept Froakie steady, dodging only when necessary and landing accurate long-range moves. That's textbook efficiency."
Gary smirked. "If Ash is going in for match number four, that means Froakie still has juice left. Maybe not enough for five in total, but definitely one more."
"I hope you're right, Gary." Shauna nodded quietly, holding back any discouraging thoughts she might have had. There was no use in talking down someone doing this well.
All eyes remained locked on Ash, who stood composed in the dam's center, and none watched more anxiously than Serena. Her eyes glimmered as she looked at the boy surrounded by awe and admiration, his figure almost glowing with confidence and strength. Clutching the hem of her pink dress tightly, Serena summoned the courage to cheer silently from the sidelines: "Ash, I believe in you... go for it!"
[Ding! Congratulations to the host: You've defeated LV.5 Venonat! Gained EXP +50]
"Hm?" Ash didn't even glance toward the students or react to their chatter. His focus was locked entirely on the system notification panel only he could see.
Just like before, winning the battle against Venonat awarded him another 50 experience points. But this time, the familiar light signaling a level-up didn't come.

"It looks like leveling up requires more experience the higher Froakie climbs." Ash silently opened Froakie's stats window and studied the EXP bar. With 50 points out of 78 needed to reach LV.8, he calculated quickly. "Only 28 more experience to go. One more victory should do it."
"And if I'm right," Ash murmured with a slight smirk, "Froakie will unlock that skill once it hits level 8…"
A glimmer of anticipation crossed his face.
