Chapter 68 - CHAPTER 69

069: Strong, Win Five Consecutive Victories!!

"Pikachu…"

"The prey has been caught in the net now it's time to finish it."

As soon as Pikachu's paw made contact with the sticky layer of Bubble Mousse, immobilizing it and reducing its evasiveness, Ash immediately seized the opportunity. What was once a nimble moving target had become a stationary one, and Ash wasn't about to waste time.

"Frogadier, hit it hard! Bubble attack!"

"Kero!"

"Tch—Pikachu, stay calm! Use Thunder Shock!" Tess shouted, voice tight with urgency.

"Chichii!!"

"Shhhh~"

Both sides acted simultaneously Frogadier's bubbling barrage launched like pellets from a pressurized blaster, and Pikachu's cheeks flared as it loosed a crackling Thunder Shock. But unlike their previous exchanges, where their attacks clashed mid-air, this time the outcome was different.

Pikachu, trapped by the foam-like Bubble Mousse a sticky variant of the Bubble attack enhanced by Frogadier's refined technique from earlier sparring rounds—was unable to move from its position. Frogadier, on the other hand, used its Agility-trained reflexes from earlier matches to reposition with Solaceon-like grace.

Predicting the linear path of Thunder Shock based on Pikachu's fixed line of sight, Frogadier sidestepped to safety and launched a coordinated Bubble barrage in response.

"Chi~!"

"Bang bang bang bang!!" Pikachu's Thunder Shock scorched the ground, missing completely. Meanwhile, Frogadier's Bubble shots rained down accurately, landing direct hits across Pikachu's body.

"Pika—!!"

"Don't stop! Keep the pressure up!" Ash ordered, his voice steady and precise.

With Frogadier continuing its relentless attack, Tess and his Pikachu appeared as if they were cornered. Earlier, Pikachu had effortlessly dodged the Bubble Mousse using its lightning-fast agility, even countering with precision strikes, but now the roles had flipped entirely. Pikachu fired off multiple Thunder Shocks in succession, but with its feet glued by the mousse and its angle of movement limited, Frogadier evaded each strike easily.

One Bubble. Then another. Pikachu took every hit without a chance to dodge. Finally, after a final barrage, Pikachu dropped to the ground, unconscious, unable to battle further.

Despite Electric being strong against Water, and despite Frogadier having already gone through four intense battles its Contest Condition clearly worn down—Ash's strategy held strong.

Before this match began, the other campers students from the Kanto region gathered at Professor Oak's Pokémon Summer Training Camp were eager to take Ash down. With only two weeks to prove themselves across ten rigorous exams, everyone knew each battle counted.

And when Tess stepped up with Pikachu an Electric-type that logically countered the Water-type Frogadier nobody believed Ash would win.

But Ash used every trick he had built up over the course of camp: exploiting Bubble Mousse to shrink Pikachu's maneuvering space, turning the ground into a trap, exhausting Pikachu's stamina through evasion and pressure, and leveraging precise movement orders refined over four consecutive matches.

The result was devastating. Pikachu, normally swift and powerful, was reduced to a sitting target, unable to resist the continuous offensive.

"Pikachu is unable to battle. The winner is Ash and his Frogadier!" the referee declared, raising his flag decisively.

"Unbelievable! Pikachu lost even with the type advantage!"

"Wait wasn't Frogadier supposed to be exhausted? How is it still fighting so hard?!"

"Five wins in a row! Ash and his Frogadier actually won five consecutive battles! That's insane!"

"Crazy strong. And the last opponent was Pikachu, for crying out loud! That's no easy feat!"

"Thank Arceus I didn't challenge him… that would've been embarrassing."

"Ash is amazing! He's gonna be a top-tier Pokémon Trainer for sure."

"Yeah, and he's cool too. I wonder if he has a girlfriend."

"We're six! Why are we even talking about that?!"

"So what? In four years, we'll be grown up. And they say guys like girls who are cute early! Am I not adorable enough?~ Mijiu!"

What started off as a supposedly one-sided match turned into an explosive upset, and as the referee's words echoed across the camp field, the audience erupted into noisy cheers and animated discussion.

On the wall display deep inside the camp's target monitoring station, the embedded electronic screen refreshed its rankings:

"Student Achievement Ranking"

1st Place: Ash (10 points)

Tied 2nd: Gary, Fatty, Jujuping, Xunzi, Tess (0 points)

Ash, with his fifth straight win, retained the top rank. He now had the full 10 points awarded for battle assessment one of the ten categories set up by Professor Oak as part of the comprehensive Pokémon Summer Camp grading system.

Ten challenges in total. Ten maximum points each. And Ash had just scored a perfect ten in combat.

The summer camp officially kicked off today, and the students who had just received their first partner Pokémon to embark on their journey as "Trainee Trainers" were required to greet one another and engage in five official battles.

This wasn't merely a warm-up to mark the start of the camp it was also the first formal assessment designed by Professor Samuel Oak himself. Given that the students had just received their Pokémon and hadn't yet established deep bonds or battle rhythms, this round of combat would serve as a key metric to evaluate their natural Trainer instincts.

Among all the newcomers, Ash Ketchum stood out prominently. Not only could he issue precise commands to his Pokémon, but he also showed an innate understanding of their battle styles, cleverly leveraging unique abilities and type matchups to construct seamless strategies. His flawless five-win streak demonstrated not just luck, but overwhelming tactical strength and battlefield adaptability.

Even Professor Oak, a seasoned researcher who had evaluated countless young Trainers across both the manga and official League system, privately remarked that Ash's Trainer potential was at an elite level one rarely seen among rookie candidates.

The five Trainers who previously faced Ash including his childhood rival, Gary Oak—were also far from weak. In fact, their instincts and talent were excellent, especially Gary's quick reactions and bold style. However, there remained a visible gap in experience and foresight when compared to Ash's evolving tactical mastery.

Under the admiring and somewhat awe-struck gazes of the campers on the sidelines, Ash walked off the field, carefully carrying the exhausted but victorious Bubble Frog in his arms.

After exchanging nods with Gary and a few other participants, Ash didn't linger to watch the remaining matches. Instead, he headed directly for Nurse Joy's temporary Pokémon Center on-site to begin Bubble Frog's recovery process.

After the intense five-match win streak, Bubble Frog's level had risen rapidly from LV.5 to LV.8. Defeating the Electric-type Pikachu a rare specimen provided by the system and used by Tess granted him an additional 50 EXP. Now only 16 points away from reaching LV.9, he was on track for rapid evolution.

"Thanks to the Mega Trainer System," Ash whispered while analyzing Bubble Frog's stat screen, "his growth rate is extraordinary. If we continue this pace and complete all the tasks in the summer camp, Bubble might hit LV.16 and evolve into Frogadier before the final test."

The screen in his eyes, projected by the system, glowed softly with data Bubble Frog's next evolution required both level growth and a "Bond Activation" event, something hinted at in the Kalos legend itself.

"But still…," Ash murmured, brows tightening slightly as he considered the upcoming opponents, system quests, and mysterious event flags yet to trigger.
