The first day of the new term arrived, buzzing with excitement and anticipation. The summer holidays felt like a distant memory, and the halls of Springfield High School were alive with energy. Students were reuniting with friends, sharing stories of their summer adventures, while others hurried off to their classrooms, eager to dive into the new academic year.
Amid the crowd, two figures stood out , Jonathan and Joshua always together, walked side by side, their presence being noticed as usual as they strolled through the school gates, a wave of attention followed them. It wasn't just the confidence, there was something magnetic about them, an undeniable charm that caught everyone's eye.
Jonathan and Joshua were among the most admired students at Springfield High, not just for their smarts but also for their striking looks. They were so handsome that it was hard to choose. Whispers and sidelong glances trailed them wherever they went. Some girls couldn't help but giggle and share whispers, while others waved or flashed bright smiles their way. A few seemed almost breathless, their hearts racing at the mere sight of the two.
Yet, despite all the attention, Jonathan and Joshua moved through the school with a casual ease that belied the admiration. They had grown accustomed to it; it was just part of their everyday lives. As they made their way toward the corridor leading to their first class, they exchanged a few quiet words, mostly talking about summer holiday.
But the calm of the day was soon shattered.
The sharp sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway, growing louder as the two friends approached the corner. Suddenly, rounding the bend ahead of them was Mr. Benjamin, the mathematics teacher. A man in his late forties, with graying hair and a sharp eyes and stern expression.
Mr. Benjamin was a well-known figure at the school, famous for his no-nonsense approach. He was the kind of teacher who placed a high value on punctuality and precision, expecting nothing less from his students, no matter their social standing.
"Jonathan and Joshua," Mr. Benjamin's Voice resounded through the corridor, The boys froze, their bodies tensing up. "Why are you moving so slowly? The bell is about to ring, and class is starting soon. You should be running to the classroom, not walking around like you're in a park."
...
....
The entrance to the school buzzed once more as the roar of a car engine echoed through the gates, grabbing everyone's attention, including Jonathan, Joshua, and Mr. Benjamin. Students scattered, whispering excitedly as the vehicle came to a halt. The doors swung open, revealing three figures who instantly captivated the crowd.
The trio was none other than the well-known friends of the school: Sophia, Angela, and Lisa.
First up was Angela, radiating effortless beauty and a calm presence, followed closely by Lisa, the life of the party, her laughter ringing out like a sweet melody. And then there was Sophia, an undeniable presence who commanded respect and admiration from anyone who dared to glance her way. Known as "the Queen," she was not only one of the top beauties in school but also comes from one of the wealthiest families in the city.
As the trio walked down the bustling hallways, students couldn't help but admire, some filled with awe, others with envy. Whispers trailed behind them. But despite the spotlight, Sophia walked with a Casually, her mind seemingly elsewhere, focused on something or rather, someone far more important than the admiring gazes of the students.
Her eyes swept the hallway until they landed on two figures in the distance.
Jonathan and Joshua stood with their backs to her, deep in conversation with their math teacher, Mr. Benjamin.
Sophia felt a little flutter in her heart, and a smile crept onto her face. It had been weeks since the last time she saw him, She had always had her eye on Jonathan, but it seemed like he was deliberately avoiding her.
Despite her popularity, wealth, and beauty, there was one thing Sophia craved more than anything else, and that is Jonathan's attention.
Yet, no matter how hard she tried, he had never acknowledged her in the way she longed for. Every time their paths crossed, and their eyes met, it felt like there was an invisible barrier between them. It was as if he couldn't or wouldn't see her.
As Jonathan and Joshua noticed Sophia approaching, Joshua shot Jonathan a teasing smile.
"What are you two looking at!!!?" Mr. Benjamin's shouted.... "I'm not done talking.
Jonathan and Joshua exchanged a quick glance, their faces remaining neutral. They were used to Mr. Benjamin's strictness, but the suddenness of his reprimand still surprised them. Everyone knew Mr. Benjamin had a reputation for being tough, and some even said his temper could turn the most confident student into a cooked potatoes. But Jonathan and Joshua, known for their calm demeanor, simply nodded in acknowledgment of the teacher's words.
Sophia continued walking toward them, flanked by Angela and Lisa, who smiled politely to the students. But Sophia's focus was solely on Jonathan. It felt like the crowd parted for her in slow motion, making way a for her.
"We will hurry along, sir," Joshua said politely.
Mr. Benjamin, however, wasn't in the mood for pleasantries. He held his gaze on them a moment longer than necessary, his sharp eyes scanning their faces as if searching for any hint of disrespect.
Feeling satisfied that they weren't going to challenge him, he gave a quick nod and glanced over at Sophia and her two friends making their way toward them.
"Make sure you do," he muttered before turning and walking toward the Staff room.
Jonathan and Joshua stood frozen for a moment, watching him disappear down the hall, The tension that had filled the air faded almost as swiftly as it had come.
"Well, that was a warm welcome to the new term," Jonathan said with a smil.,
Joshua chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Yeah, if that's what we got for walking too slowly, I can only imagine what would happen if we were late for class."
Joshua glanced back and spotted Sofia still approaching them. "She's here," he whispered to Jonathan, a smile spreading across his face. Jonathan's expression soured, and he quickly turned to walk away.
"Hey, Jonathan!" Sophia called out softly.
Jonathan turned to look at her. "Oh, hey, you're here," he waved, then continued on toward the classroom without wasting time or giving her much attention.
A complicated expression crossed Sophia's beautiful face as she watched Jonathan walk away.
you!.. what did you just do? That's so embarrassing!" Joshua exclaimed as he hurried after Jonathan.
"What do you want me to do? Hug her? Or carry her to the classroom?" Jonathan said, raising his brows.
"Of course! That would be more like it!" Joshua replied excitedly.
"You're crazy," Jonathan said, barely paying him any attention
Hahahaha! Joshua's laughter echoed through the hallway.
As they rushed toward their classroom, the sounds of students filtering into the school seemed to fade into the background.
The start of a new term always brought a sense of change and growth. While others worried about the lessons ahead or the workload that will soon be hovering over them.
The bell rang, signaling the start of the first lesson of the term. Jonathan and Joshua walked into their classroom.
