Chapter 48 - Exactly

Gilbert remained standing, unmoving.

There was only one large bed in the room. Since Claire had to sleep with the child, there was nowhere for him to sleep.

Claire couldn't be bothered with him. He couldn't possibly stand there the entire night, could he?

She had been exhausted and drained these past few days, utterly worn out.

The moment she closed her eyes, she drifted off to sleep.

In the second half of the night, rain began to pour outside, accompanied by flashes of lightning and deafening thunder.

In the darkness, Claire suddenly found herself plummeting into a vast, bottomless sea. A thunderous roar filled her ears. Her head throbbed with splitting pain, and her nose, ears, and eyes were all submerged in water.

Suffocation. Pain. Discomfort. Fear!

Her fingers curled tightly, then stretched out, as her breathing grew shallower.
