Chapter 93: Partners – Dark WarGreymon
"Witness the wrath of the Spider Queen!"
To fight over Dark WarGreymon, Arukenimon dropped her human disguise and transformed into her terrifying spider form.
"That form is explosively ugly."
Yamcha mercilessly mocked Arukenimon's appearance.
While she could barely be considered a "beauty" in her human form, as a Digimon she could only be described as horrifying—an unforgettable childhood nightmare for many viewers of Season 2.
"Don't insult my darling!"
Before Arukenimon could even respond, her loyal simp, Mummymon, flew into a rage and fired his laser gun at Yamcha.
Boom!
The blast was effortlessly blocked by Guardromon, who calmly raised its arms—completely unharmed.
"Don't go giving me random nicknames!" Arukenimon glared fiercely at Mummymon.
To be able to block an enraged Mummymon's attack—this clearly wasn't your average Guardromon.
Unfortunately, both villains were too angry to notice this key detail.
Meanwhile, another Digimon, Mechanorimon, launched its own attack.
Spinning Smash and Blinking Beam were Mechanorimon's two special moves. While it looked impressive, its actual strength was average Champion level. It wasn't even enough to injure two Ultimate-level Digimon, let alone defeat them—despite Arukenimon and Mummymon not being known for their defense.
That's the downside of mass-produced Digimon: insufficient attack power.
Their advantage lies in numbers. At the peak of the Metal Empire's power, it was said that mass-produced Champions outnumbered even the Numemon hordes.
A true testament to the phrase "technology is the number one productive force."
"Bring it on!"
Eager to show off in front of Arukenimon, Mummymon charged in without hesitation.
Had he been facing a regular Mechanorimon, he'd be fine—but unfortunately…
Yamcha slowly drew a card. As it glowed, Mechanorimon launched a new attack.
"Zero-Type Cruise Missile!"
A huge orange missile with a shark face shot from Mechanorimon's torso, hurtling straight toward Mummymon.
Mummymon: "???"
Since when could Mechanorimon do that?!
No matter how hard his rotten brain tried, Mummymon couldn't comprehend how Mechanorimon had pulled off that move.
Back in the Digimon Tamers arc, the Reptile Modifiers once forced Agumon to wear a Dark Ring, causing it to digivolve incorrectly into SkullGreymon. That's when this move was first recorded.
The card in Yamcha's hand was created on the spot.
As SkullGreymon's signature attack, the Zero-Type Cruise Missile's power needed no explanation. And Mummymon was caught point-blank.
Boom!
A mushroom cloud rose as Mummymon was sent flying, crashing hard into the ground and skidding across it. His bandages were shredded all over.
Mummymon: critically injured!
That's the terror of someone with card-using privileges.
One enemy remained, so Yamcha wasn't done. He drew a blue card.
As everyone knows, in Season 3, blue cards meant one thing—
"Guardromon digivolve to... Andromon!"
Temporary Digivolution Power!
After evolving into Andromon, his speed, strength, and defense skyrocketed.
Arukenimon reacted faster than Mummymon. The moment Guardromon evolved, she attacked.
"Spider Thread!"
Sticky and razor-sharp webs shot from her abdomen. Anyone caught in these would be doomed. The threads could slice flesh instantly, and their stickiness made escape impossible.
"Acid Mist!"
Not stopping there, Arukenimon unleashed another attack—a thick green smoke sprayed from her mouth.
This mist was highly corrosive, capable of melting anything. Worse, it was extremely toxic. Combined with her webs, it was a deadly combo that could deal massive damage.
Brutal and bloodthirsty—this was the Spider Queen's signature move.
Unfortunately for her, her opponent was a machine.
"Spinning Energy Sword!"
The powerful energy blade instantly shredded the spider threads. Even the corrosive toxic mist had no effect on Andromon.
"Gatling Missiles!"
Two missiles launched from his chest struck Arukenimon directly, causing immense damage—especially since her defense was already poor.
Even without drawing another card, Yamcha completely overpowered her!
After several rounds, Arukenimon was severely wounded. Andromon was her perfect counter.
Knowing they couldn't win, Mummymon, despite his injuries, tried to carry Arukenimon away. As they fled, he shouted a classic villain line:
"We'll… be back!"
But trying to leave after offending the abbot?
Say it louder—what's small on the abbot?
"Draw card!"
Yamcha grasped at the air, and a new card materialized in his hand.
"Activate…"
He gently swiped it across his faux Digivice.
"'Scorching Serpent'!"
Also known as "Death Hotline," this was the signature move of the synthetic Ultimate-level beast Chimairamon—crafted by the Four Lords of X4.
Though Chimairamon was technically a Mega-level, the Lords' power was limited, and making an Ultimate-level Digimon was their cap.
Even so, Chimairamon wiped the floor with the Chosen Children like an unstoppable force.
A scorching red beam fired from Mechanorimon's core—visually awkward, but incredibly powerful.
Just grazing Arukenimon and Mummymon was enough to knock them both out of commission.
'Porygon Type-2, initiate capture mode.'
Yamcha thought silently, dramatically holding up his fake Digivice and drawing across it. Two ribbon-like strands floated from the device, orbiting like satellites.
The next second, both villains were reduced to data particles and absorbed into the Digivice.
Capture mode was a newly unlocked feature of Porygon Type-2, similar to Season 6, where a tamer could have multiple Digimon.
Though Arukenimon and Mummymon were mid-tier villains, their fates were tragic. Created using Oikawa Yukio's DNA, they eventually betrayed him to follow their boss, MaloMyotismon.
But MaloMyotismon had a habit of killing his own subordinates. Arukenimon was crushed to death, and Mummymon, after watching his "goddess" die, was cruelly killed by his own boss.
In a way, Yamcha capturing them may have saved their lives.
"Let's go, my partner! Dark WarGreymon—this isn't where you belong."
"Come with me to seek out stronger foes, to challenge ourselves—and our destinies."
That final line was spoken to both Dark WarGreymon and himself. Dark WarGreymon was never meant to die as a mere key to open the Digital Gate. And Yamcha… he wasn't meant to die from a Saibaman self-destruction, nor fade into mediocrity.
They were meant for a brighter future.
"Your wish… is my wish too, partner!"
Man and Digimon clasped hands.
The next moment, they disappeared from the Digital World—truly gone, never to return.
Even as Yamcha and Dark WarGreymon left, the Chosen Children remained unconscious.
In the sky, a massive shadow churned among the clouds. Thunder and lightning intertwined. A distant dragon's roar echoed…
But soon, the shadow vanished.
Everything fell silent once again.
