"Dad?!"
Musai was lazily sprawled out on the couch, flipping through a copy of The Pig Farming Guide out of sheer boredom.
But the moment he saw his father dash out of the house like a gust of wind, he couldn't help but shout after him.
"Stay home and wait for me to return!"
Yamanaka Shinno's voice rang out from the distance.
Musai stood at the doorway, staring at the brilliant blue chakra flames rising far away. His pupils shrank as a sense of unease washed over him. He wanted to stop his father, to say something—anything—but no words came.
All he could do was watch as Shinno's figure quickly disappeared into the cool night breeze.
...
The entire village of Kumogakure had been placed on lockdown. Per the Third Raikage A's orders given at dusk, only jonin and Anbu were permitted outside, all other shinobi and civilians were to remain in their homes.
Shinno moved unhindered through the village, heading straight toward the district where Nii Yugito resided.
As the blue flames of Matatabi's chakra flared into the night, residents poured out of their homes in a panic. Chunin and genin, also caught up in the chaos, scrambled to maintain order, guiding the frightened civilians toward the safety shelters.
Shinno pushed forward against the fleeing crowd, moving swiftly across the rooftops.
Before long, he reached the battlefield's edge. And there, at the very heart of the chaos, he saw the scene unfolding.
A dozen Kumogakure jonin were engaged in battle against four shinobi clad in standard Anbu gear. Meanwhile, six other Anbu had encircled Yugito, forming a sealing barrier designed to suppress a rampaging tailed beast. Their goal was clear—to help her regain control over the Two-Tails.
Scattered across the battlefield were seven motionless bodies, each clad in Anbu attire.
But their positions were odd—limbs twisted at unnatural angles, their uniforms in disarray. It was impossible to tell whether the fallen were genuine Anbu or infiltrators disguised as them.
Right now, though, that wasn't Shinno's concern.
Inside the hastily erected sealing barrier, Yugito was down on all fours. Her eyes had rolled back, her body arched like a feline preparing to pounce, and guttural whimpers of pain escaped her lips.
The once adorable girl now had a face twisted in agony, her expression distorted by unbearable suffering.
And the flames of Matatabi's chakra were still raging, growing stronger by the second.
It was obvious—Yugito was fighting with everything she had, but she was losing control.
...
"Genjutsu? A dojutsu-based illusion? This… it almost feels like there's a hallucinogenic drug involved too."
Shinno narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Yugito from outside the barrier.
The six Anbu holding the formation clearly had experience dealing with rampaging jinchuriki. The barrier itself wasn't particularly high-level, but with six of them working in unison, they had at least alleviated some of the pressure on Yugito.
But something was wrong with Matatabi's chakra.
And something was very wrong with Yugito's condition.
...
Shinno was no ordinary genjutsu user. His mastery of yin release far surpassed most shinobi in the world. The trait [Yin Release Master] was something he had honed through sheer talent and relentless training.
And with that expertise, he could sense it—an incredibly subtle but distinct yin energy laced within Matatabi's chakra.
This wasn't a standard genjutsu.
Unlike regular illusions cast by ordinary genjutsu specialists, this energy was thick with gloom, darkness, and an overwhelming stench of blood.
The Sharingan's illusions?
No, the Sharingan's power was darker, more extreme. And it didn't carry this kind of suffocating bloodlust.
This was the Blood Dragon Eye. (Ketsuryūgan)
And Yugito…
Her violently trembling pupils and erratic, unstable chakra flow—this was a textbook case of drug-induced delirium.
Just like how Orochimaru had once used powerful hallucinogens to take down the previous Eight-Tails jinchuriki, the same tactic had now been deployed against Yugito.
Only this time, the enemy's drug wasn't as potent as Orochimaru's.
Instead, they were using the Blood Dragon Eye's genjutsu to reinforce its effects, aiming to control both Yugito and Matatabi simultaneously.
...
The current situation was a disaster.
Yugito had already broken free from the genjutsu thanks to the surge of Matatabi's chakra.
But the drug was still in her system. She couldn't fully suppress her tailed beast's rampage. She didn't even have the strength to call out to Matatabi.
As for Matatabi?
Rather than being caught in an illusion…
It seemed like the Two-Tails didn't want to wake up from it.
"...Damn dumb cat. Of all the people to mimic, you pick Tsunade?!"
Shinno cursed under his breath.
If this kept up, Yugito's body would be the first to collapse under the strain of the Two-Tails' rampage.
The only way to fix this was to forcibly wake Matatabi up—and keep her suppressed.
Shinno had plenty of genjutsu strong enough to accomplish that.
But… as a mere chunin, he wasn't supposed to have access to any of them.
...
"Close-range. Direct contact. Pure yin release. Minimal chakra leakage. Hide it within the Two-Tails' rampaging chakra…"
Shinno rapidly ran through his options.
With a burst of Body Flicker Technique, he arrived at the edge of the sealing formation.
The six Anbu turned toward him in unison.
Suspicion. Vigilance. Two of them nearly attacked on the spot.
"Seisai! What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
The Anbu squad captain, someone familiar with Shinno, barked at him. His voice was strained with genuine fear.
He had already uncovered multiple spies from other villages throughout the day.
If Seisai turned out to be one too…
Then as the one who had vouched for him just a few days ago, he was screwed.
"I—I—I want to help her."
Shinno forced himself to look nervous, as if he had only just mustered up enough courage to act.
"Get the hell out of here! This isn't the time to be causing trouble!"
The Anbu captain's teeth nearly cracked from how hard he was clenching them.
He understood what it felt like to watch someone you cared about suffer.
But this idiot was a chunin!
He should at least have enough self-awareness to know he was way out of his depth!

"♪ A jinchuriki's heart, tough and alone~ ♪♪ Let him in, wake the sleeping soul~ ♪♪ Oh yeah~ today's flow still goes hard~ ♪"
A loud, rhythmic voice cut through the battlefield.
From the distance, Killer B approached, his octopus tails gleaming under the moonlight as they slashed through the remaining enemies.
In the blink of an eye, the last of the resistance was crushed—some slain on the spot, others taken captive.
"Killer B-sama!"
The surrounding shinobi exhaled in relief.
B simply waved at Shinno, signaling him to hurry up and do whatever he had planned.
Just yesterday, the man had been half-dead in a crater.
Now he was already back in action.
Jinchuriki recovery speed was insane.
"Alright… okay."
Shinno took a deep breath, his legs shaking as he stepped forward.
To the Anbu watching him, he looked terrified.
But he wasted no time.
Calling out Yugito's name, he ignored the searing chakra now burning into his skin and placed a hand gently on her head.
...
"Yo, Matatabi. You think messing is fun?"
