Chapter 2: Death's Attack
Among all the divine beings, Death was the most furious and dissatisfied. Her domain was the end of life—she brought balance to the world by delivering death and ensuring the natural conclusion of every being's life cycle.
However, when someone defied this order—skipping the natural cycle of life and death, acquiring power that rivaled or even surpassed that of the divine—Death became restless. Her dissatisfaction grew into anger, and she resolved to personally end the life of the one who dared to escape her grasp. This was not merely out of wrath, but also because the man in question had somehow severed the divine influence over him.
This event sent tremors through the divine realms. Many supreme beings feared that they might lose their dominion, for if one mortal could resist their authority, others might follow. But they could not interfere directly in the mortal world. Doing so would cost them fragments of their divine essence, which would remain on Earth and could be absorbed or manipulated by other beings according to its elemental nature.
Despite this risk, Death chose to act. She decided to descend to the mortal realm herself and confront the defiant man. To cross over, she infused a small portion of her essence into the world. Upon entering, her power transformed into the form of a breathtakingly beautiful woman.
Death was the most cunning and strategic of all the divine entities. With meticulous planning and flawless execution, she tracked down and eventually met the man who defied fate—Merlin.
Disguised, she introduced herself as Vivienne, the Lady of the Lake. Upon their first meeting, Merlin found her deeply alluring and sought to win her affection in many ways. Yet, he always sensed something strange—something he couldn't quite define. The feeling lingered, but he eventually dismissed it.
Unbeknownst to him, Death was watching. She observed this mortal's incredible potential with astonishment. How could a human possess such immense power? Determined to end this anomaly, she devised her plan. One night, she crafted a domain of pure death within the lake—an area where any living being's body and soul would be completely erased from existence, their essence returned to the natural order.
Her chosen method of attack was a powerful spell—one that would later become infamous throughout history as the Unforgivable Killing Curse: Avada Kedavra.
When the time came, Merlin went to the lake to meet Lady Vivienne. But as he approached her, he immediately sensed something was wrong. A heavy, oppressive force pressed in from all sides, alerting him to unseen danger. He grew wary and, as he instinctively turned to look behind him, he saw it: a beam of brilliant green light racing toward him.
He could feel its lethal energy—its raw, fatal power. By sheer instinct, he managed to dodge the attack. When he turned back toward Vivienne, he saw her standing still, a dangerous smile playing across her lips.
She said nothing at first.
Then, Merlin, stunned, asked only: "Why?"
Death laughed in response, her voice echoing with otherworldly resonance. She revealed her true identity and explained everything—who she was, why she had come, and the reason she sought his end.
Merlin, though shaken, did not cower. He let out a bitter laugh and replied, "I am honored that Death herself has come for me. But tell me, is it your pride that compels you? That I have escaped your grasp? Or is it fear… fear that I might become something beyond even you?"
Note: The supreme beings mentioned in this story are not actual gods. They are immortal entities, spiritual manifestations of the world's energy, empowered by the natural laws that govern existence.
