Chapter 11 - IN THE COMMA

My mother sat beside me, she looked at me as those pipes ran through my nose and my mouth, the machines kept on beeping at immediate intervals in turns, my mother looked at me and wondered if I was alive or dead, because I didn't make any movement, my body was so still, she didn't even know what the readings on the machines meant, her heart was pumping so hard when she entered that door to my ward room, the moment she took a glance at me she couldn't look at me again, she turned her eyes away from me and wept for a minute first before she approached me on my bed.

The room was so quiet, only the life supporting machines made noise, she looked at me with sorrow, "my son I am here with you now please don't depart from me," she cried out quietly as she held my hand tight. "How do we know that is alive," she turned to Peter who had just arrived as soon as she had my mother was in the hospital, "ummm, when the machines are still beeping and when they are not beeping so fast and when you hear the air in the pipes whizzing." Peter answered as he slowly moved towards my mother,"I am Peter by the way," he said stretching his hand to great her, "oh Peter," my mother replied in obvious surprised tone as she stretched her hand too to receive the greatings." Thank you Peter for all you have done to help Levi," "no ma it's nothing, we all pray that our efforts should not go in vain," Peter replied looking at me, taking in some breaths.

"Ma, have you eaten?" "No my son, but I am okay don't worry," "no ma you must it please let's go and find you something to eat," "it's okay if you say so," my mother giggled as she got up from the chair, she looked at me once more with an eye full of pity, "I will be back my son," she tapped my leg and left.

All this time I could hear their voices from afar, my heart was full of joy as I heard my mothers voice, I tried to tell her something but my soul was so far from my body to conduct an impulse. As I walked down that valley, everything was so bright, the flowers had a small petal which was so white and produced clear bubbles from its stigmas, I looked at myself and I was wearing a white robe, and I was barefoot, the ground below was ice cold that it tickled my feet, the air was so clean that it sweetened my nostrils down to my throat.

I have never seen that kind of a place in my life, the hills that surrounded were as much tall as I would ever think of and they were all covered in ice and moving mist and fog. As I thought I was alone, a man taller than me, wearing the same white robe appeared in my rare front, he was walking as slow as turtle, but I couldn't reach to him, I tried to walk as fast as I could but I couldn't reach him, I tried to call him but he wouldn't look back, I increased my speed, and by the time I was getting to him I was panting like an aimless dog.

"Hey I am talking to you," I said breathing spontaneously, holding onto my knees. The man stopped from moving, and turned his face backwards, and there he was, my father with his broad smile, his face was shining from a thousand stars that glittered all over him, he was holding onto a long silver rod. "Father!!" I exclaimed quietly kneeling down from the fatigue of running,"what are you doing here?" I asked with a surprised tone. "Son, I should be the one asking you what are you doing here?" My father spoke in a deep voice, that made his words so organic.

"It's a long story dad," I answered lowering my face down in shame,"me myself I don't know how I got here," my father looked at me keenly, I felt his eyes running all over me, "son why are you lying?" He said lifting my head with his silver rod, "I am not lying, all I remember was I crossing the road then suddenly I was down then people were around me and my friend Peter was telling me to stay with him the ambulance is coming, then I saw a light on top of me then I found myself here," I said releasing a heavy breath after that Long explanation,"and I have been wandering here for days I don't know where to go." I had not finished my explanation now I had finished.

"Why are you giving an excuse that you don't know how you got here," my father asked that shocking question looking directly into my eyes, "is this not what you have been praying for, you wanted to get out of your predicaments, you wanted to quit, you gave up on life and that is why you got up from the principal's office saying that you wanted to die, and when you were hit by the car, when the light came you followed the light you gave your soul away to follow the light." I looked at my father, tears were lingering at the bottom of my eyes, the silent between us was of regrets, pains and blame.

"You left us Dad," I cried out loud, "you didn't look back you allowed yourself too to follow the light, that's why you are here with me, it's like you were tied of us, you gave up on fighting for us what do you expect me to do if not run from the predicaments you left us with," " and that is the mistake you shouldn't do," my father's deep voice rised immensely before I could go any further, "you were given a choice between coming here and staying behind but you chose to come here," my father stopped talking and looked at me with pity, "son you've gotta go back and fight for your life, you still have a long way to go, you have a bright future and a destiny to chase, this here is just fate but you've got to win over, this is not yet a place for you son, please go back, your mother is counting on you to save her the misery, your younger brother is looking up to you as his mentor I myself I am looking at you to save my family from falling."

I looked at my father as he spoke those insightful words, tears washed my face two ways, "Dad it's not easy it's not easy for me," I said bending down with an overwhelmed heart, my father looked at me and bent over, he hold at my shoulder and called at me,"and nobody said it's easy, but you've got to fight, I will be here to protect you son, now please go I can't stay here for long I have to go,as well as you you can't stay any longer you've got go." I raised my head and looked at my father as he got up and waved at me,"goodbye son," he said fading away through the tiny flowers into the massive mist and fog. "Please dad don't leave me!! Please, dad I want to come with you please!! Oh No!!"

"Doctor!! Something is happening!! Where is the doctor," it was my mother calling, I had her voice from a far," oh my goodness I have to go," I said getting up hurriedly. The machines were going crazy, they were beeping more than the actual speed of my heartbeat, my chest was rising very high and lowered very low, it's pressure was increasing so fast,"please where is the doctorrrrr!!! My son is dying!!" My mother had gone wild, her shouts crawled all through every door and window of the hospital, the doctors came in hurriedly, "please madam you can wait outside as we check on your son," the doctor in charge said escorting my mother outside, "how can I, my son is dying," my mother said trying to release herself from the hands of the doctor, immediately Peter came in,"Ma what is happening, " "my son is dying," my mother said trying to put herself together not to scream,"Ma please it's okay, Levi will not die let the doctors check on him," Peter said holding onto my mother,as he took her out from the hallway," Ma I have rented you a room where you could spend some days there please let me take you there."

Peter ordered for a glass of wine, as he sat at the Equator hotels this is after taking my mother to the room he had rented for her, he didn't know how all of this was going to end but he prayed that everything come out so positive at the end of the day. "Hellooo..." Peter looked on his back and it was Madam Patricia, "hey Madam Patricia, how are you?" Peter turned trying to wipe out his tears,"I am good how about you," Madam Patricia replied with an old trembling voice, "I am fine, I am just here chilling a little bit," Peter replied trying to smile.

"Hey what about that your friend I have forgotten his name," Madam Patricia asked pretending not to care that much, "you mean Levi," "yes Levi, how is he," she said raising her eyebrows, little did she know she was digging on a raw wound which was not yet known when it will rapture, "ummm ... Levi is.....ummm," Peter didn't know how to answer any question about me without breaking into tears, "is something wrong," Madam Patricia asked now concerned more than earlier. Peter kept quiet then answered with gained confidence,"Levi, was involved in a road accident and now he is in ICU," "whaaaaat!!" Madam Patricia exclaimed quietly trying not to shout and disturb other people's peace,"when did it happen?" "The day before yesterday," Peter wiped his face which was being filled with sweat which came as a result of forcing himself not to cry.

"Oh that is bad that is really bad," Madam Patricia said her face altering between pity and shock,"can I come and see him."

And there she was, Madam Patricia in my ICU room, she stood at least five steps away, her head bowed done as her mouth lacked words to speak, her eyes kept on gazing at me. MY STORY CONTINUES.
