Chapter 12 - Chapter 6: Breaking point. (Part 2)

Previously in Code: Fearless...

In that moment a strong kick to the face silences him immediately…

-Janitor: AHHH!

-Guty: My military training left me with knowledge of many torturing methods, which one would you like to experience first?!

-Janitor: Please have mercy, I am innocent!

Innocent? Could he really be? Could it be possible that I am mistaken… and this man is suffering the punishment meant for another…? I doubt it…

-Guty: You are only making this worse for yourself…

-Janitor: No please, NOO!

Slowly I crush the fingers in his hand, feeling how they crack beneath my feet.

-Janitor: AHHHH!

-Guty: Well?!

-Janitor: Ah… ah… I am telling you I didn't do anything… ah… ah… you mistake me for someone else…

He slowly crawls on the ground while his weeping wets the floor, his nose drips his clothes in blood bit by bit.

-Janitor: ah… the day the incident happened I was not here in school…

When he reached the wall, he leaned on the window to get back up on his feet, a task he pretends to be difficult for him, but my strikes were not so hard, he is clearly trying to fool me and pretend he is hurt…

-Guty: It's curious you say that…

I get away from him for a moment, slowly walking through the room where there are many boxes, buckets, cleaning tools among other things, however there is something that particularly catches my eye… and that is the lockers from the workers…

-Guty: Why is that when I checked your attendance for that day, the system indicated you accessed the school…

-Janitor: Maybe I was confused on the day… but I truly didn't do it…

-Guty: But don't worry… if you came in or not, that is not what I want to know…, what I am truly interested in is…

When I am close enough to the lockers, I lock my eyes on one of them that particularly has the door wide open…, where I take out an object that I have been looking for some time now…

-Guty: You are telling me… What is the machete used to kill a student that same morning… in your Locker? The machete that apparently you didn't even have the decency to clean…

-Janitor: That's not mine!

-Guty: Then why is it in your locker?!

In that moment I had all the pieces of the puzzle from the first murder… How is it possible that someone killed a student with a machete without anyone noticing…? Besides… the object that was used for the killing had mysteriously disappeared…

First… By being part of the staff, they must arrive an hour early before the students to ensure that the classrooms are operating correctly, so he was here before his victim…, afterwards the only thing he had to do was wait for the poor kid would think to arrive early that day…., then after killing him, he took the time to hide the weapon in his locker and did not have to leave the school since he had the perfect place to hide it, which was this little locker here…

His job would allow him to dispose of the evidence without raising any suspicion, just as he would clean the messages in the whiteboard before we could take any blood samples hiding behind the excuse that the principal did not want to rise any bad reputation for the school…

-Guty: I wouldn't be surprised if you had hidden in here Kintaro's cellphone as well.

I thoroughly search but unfortunately, I do not find it, just a few personal things and electrical clamps…

-Guty: At least you had the decency to dispose of that, obviously you took it when you went to clean the blood in the front yard…, stupidly I forgot to pick it up when I was trying to save Kintaro…, you are a bastard…,

For a moment I stare at the electrical clamps thinking I am missing something…

-Guty: Eureka!

That's how he wrote the message mocking me, the damn bastard switched the electricity off all over the school and the master switch that controls it all is located inside one of the janitors room, but if he only cut the power he could arise suspicions, so after he flipped the switch he quickly ran to a strategic area, he used the clamps to cut an electricity wire and simulate an electrical malfunction, then came back to the room to gain some time while the specialists arrived to the building and powered everything down to avoid shocking themselves while trying to fix the issue, this maneuver gave him approximately one hour, which he used to use the same tactic than last time and murder the first two students that arrived school, while the agents were fixing the electrical failure which as far enough so that they could not hear a thing from the crime scene…, he had all the time in the world to write that message and leave as if nothing ever happened…, and finally come back later and clean up every possible piece of evidence…

-Guty: So, you killed the other students as well!

Suddenly the janitor throws himself out of the window which is 3 stories high in the building.

-Guty: What?!

I run over to the window to find out what happened, when I looked outside, I see that he fell on a bunch of garbage bags that mitigated the fall and allowed him to quickly get up and run off through the school's back yard.

-Guty: Damn it!

I hold on to one of the pipelines near the window and slide down to the ground to start chasing him, while I run, I take out my cellphone to request backup.

-Guty: This is Agent Guty, code 963150, send all available units to University of Tokyo, secure a 10 km perimeter NOW! we are looking for an adult male, mid-thirties, short dark hair in a blue janitor uniform escaping from the university heading south, the suspect has a broken nose.

The police department in the country is very efficient and in just a matter of seconds all members of dispatch are sent to cover the area blocking the escape of the killer, who has only been able to hide among the buildings so far. He is probably trying to steal some clothes from someone and get away from the police perimeter.

-Guty: Damn it… he ran this way…

I was really surprised to see him jump out the window, all seems to indicate that he had that contingency plan if something went wrong…, although it is worth mentioning the great withstanding he showed to the interrogation, if it wasn't from my experience and my irrefutable evidence, I might have second guessed myself…

-Policeman: Hey you, in the red shirt, stop right there!

One of the policemen manages to find him, it seems he was able to change his clothes, however the fracture in his nose and his bruised face doesn't let him go unnoticed.

-Policeman: I said stop!

In a moment of desperation, the janitor pulls from his pockets a razor blade and starts running towards the policeman attempting to take his life.

-Policeman: Open fire!

A group of three police officers that arrive as backup fired on the suspect, shooting him dead on the street leaving his body lie on the ground…, putting an end to his criminal days, I can hear the gunshots from afar, so I head over to the location to see how things ended. Unfortunately, when I arrived, I find that the janitor is dead, I would've like to question him further… however I suppose that not everything could be perfect…, after the forensic team took the body, the police officers escort me to the police station to give my testimony of what happened.

When we reach the destination I identify myself to the Japanese police department which speeds up the process for me to declare what I had seen which in the end were superficial details of what is going on at the university of Tokyo so I obviously keep most of the information to myself; When we concluded the process I am informed that my superior wishes to speak to me on the phone, I imagine he wants to know the truth behind all this. Since the support that has been given to the local government has been strictly internal and known to the highest ranks of Interpol… two high rank officers take me to a small room located in the deepest corner of the police station, which is sound proofed and has a small table with a phone on it, when I am inside I take a seat while the two officers close the door shut and wait outside, in that moment the phone rings and I quickly answer…

-Guty: Yes?

-Superior: Good day Agent…, I am aware that you started a pursuit…

-Guty: That is correct sir, you see…

I proceed to tell him everything I found about the janitor in great detail, also the tactics he used to kill the students, which surprised my superior quite a lot given the incredible network he was operating in…

-Superior: The Japanese government will be very satisfied with your work Agent…

-Guty: Maybe…

-Superior: Is something wrong? You should be happy about this… you solved the case proper time, this could not have ended better, although it is a shame the killer died in that chase of yours.

-Guty: I know…, but… in the end there is something that just doesn't add up…

The tone in the voice of my superior changed immediately…

-Superior: Guty… are you thinking that…?

After some years working with my superior, he knows that all my cases have closed in a very solid manner without exception, I have never left any lose ends, in some occasions things ended in a way I would have preferred to avoid… but not a single lose end, which can only mean one thing…

-Guty: I think… he wasn't the murderer…

-Superior: But how is that possible? Didn't you say he killed those students?

-Guty: Correct…, he was a killer… however I am afraid to tell you that he was just a puppet of the one truly pulling the strings in that school…

-Superior: But his criminal network was perfect.

-Guty; Without a doubt the janitor was a key piece for the killer, which is why he had to disguise him well, which makes me thing…, if that complicated and nearly perfect network, he used just for one of his puppets… How complicated and twisted must be his own?

-Superior: …

-Guty: There is no doubt this was a tremendous blow against his network, and believe me he will let me know that…

In that moment a text message reaches my cellphone.

-Guty: Hmm?

With a quick look I could only read a portion of the text <>

-Superior: But tell me… How can you be so sure?

-Guty: The killings the janitor is responsible of explain a lot of things, but they do now explain how Agent Carter and Milton killed each other…

-Superior: Hmm…

-Guty: Besides… the janitor's network was nearly perfect, but his criminal profile wasn't.

-Superior: What do you mean?

-Guty: For a mastermind that was so clever to cover his crimes in such and impeccable manner, in the moment of our confrontation his reasoning wasn't really brilliant…, to have the murder weapon in his locker was a terrible idea…, that silly action is not proper of such a brilliant criminal… and pardon me for saying this but he was more of a hunting dog being taught by his master how to hunt…

-Superior: Damn it Guty… so… the maggot behind all this is unlike any other…

-Guty: And we've just punched him in the jaw…

Suddenly my phone rings…

-Guty: Hold just a moment sir…

I take out my phone and answer the call…

-Guty: Yes?

-Specialist: Agent! The students have gone mad, a huge brawl has started in the cafeteria.

-Guty: What?!
