"Senshu Tobirama isn't dead. He's still clinging to life in the shadows, plotting. He's out for revenge against Konoha, and Obito... Obito is the pawn he chose—a human weapon, a perfect fusion of the Sharingan and Wood Release!"
"Don't doubt it. If Tobirama could create a forbidden jutsu like Edo Tensei, then even death wouldn't stop him from crawling back from the Pure Land."
"The Nine-Tails' attack back then? It was all orchestrated by Tobirama, manipulating Obito behind the scenes. Konoha has been on a slow decline ever since, and laughably, no one ever noticed the puppet master pulling the strings."
"The Senju Clan has quietly severed ties with Konoha, rebranding themselves and integrating into the feudal lord's court. It's entirely possible that today's daimyo carries Senju blood."
Watching Sasuke spin an even wilder tale, Kakashi couldn't help but cut him off.
"Do you have any proof for all this?"
"I do. For one, Obito liked Nohara Rin—and he hated you. Every time you left flowers at Rin's grave, he'd throw them away." Sasuke laid out all the information he had on Obito, even revealing details about Kamui. "And there's more—Konoha is on the brink of collapse. Haven't you noticed? Mission requests have plummeted in the last two years. The economy's about to crash."
At that, Kakashi's eyes widened in shock. Sasuke, meanwhile, urged him calmly,
"You'd better not go tattling. It's not just Konoha that's going down—Sunagakure and Iwagakure are on the chopping block too. This is the flow of history: there cannot be two suns in the sky, nor two rulers in a land. The daimyo is initiating reforms. The era of the shinobi villages is outdated. Outdated things must be eliminated—just as samurai were once replaced by ninja, now it's the ninja's turn to be swept away."
"That's impossible! Absolutely impossible!" Kakashi rejected it immediately, refusing to believe such a shocking revelation.
"The Third Hokage managed Konoha well—his governance was excellent—"
But Sasuke simply shook his head. "Nothing is impossible."
"The so-called 'excellent governance' of the Third? According to the cycles of history, any social organization, after surviving its chaotic founding era, will naturally enter a period of prosperity during the second and third generations."
Kakashi couldn't fully grasp Sasuke's logic, but he knew one thing for sure: Sasuke's words were a heavy blow against the Third. He calmed himself and asked,
"Why are you telling me all this? What role do you play in all this? To be honest, I still find it hard to believe the daimyo could truly stand against Konoha."
"I'm telling you now because I want you to abandon the darkness and join the winning side," Sasuke said smoothly. "The daimyo already possesses power comparable to that of the 'God of Shinobi.' Konoha doesn't stand a chance."
"I've already secretly aligned myself with the daimyo. After all, I have deep, personal grudges against Konoha's leadership. But the rest of the villagers are innocent. The daimyo doesn't want a bloodbath; he simply wants to abolish the shinobi village system. For that, he needs someone—a guide—to lead the remaining shinobi to embrace the new order after the fall of the villages."
"Kakashi-san, you'd be perfect for that role." Sasuke smiled warmly at him. "When it comes down to it, will you choose your country, or your village?"
"If what you're saying is true... then there's no real choice to make," Kakashi muttered. "But even so, I still have my doubts."
Honestly, if Sasuke hadn't subdued him so easily with strength far beyond his age, he wouldn't have believed a word of it.
Sasuke chuckled softly. "Believe it or not, it makes no difference. But you should really keep your mouth shut. Secrets are built on silence. If you leak anything... well, I might have to make Uchiha Obito suffer a little."
"You have no idea," he added with a chilling smile, "just what kind of torture I could put him through. Maybe you'd like a demonstration of what 'ultimate humiliation' looks like..."
...
Kakashi stumbled away like a man possessed. When the ANBU came to investigate afterward, he told them that what Naruto and Sakura had witnessed—Sasuke's "death"—had been an illusion.
The immediate problem was solved. But Naruto and Sakura both began to develop a dark shadow in their hearts toward Kakashi. Not that Kakashi noticed—he was too busy investigating Obito. Even though Naruto was his late teacher's son, Kakashi couldn't spare the attention.
In truth, Kakashi had basically abandoned Team 7 to their own devices, using shadow clones to go through the motions. Sasuke was more than happy with this arrangement. After all, even in the original timeline, Kakashi hadn't really taught Naruto or Sakura anything particularly useful. And now, Sasuke didn't need his guidance at all.
Sasuke also used shadow clones to clock in and out. Team 7 lived an incredibly relaxed life, having yet to complete a single mission. Every day felt like a picnic.
But it wasn't just Team 7. Neji mentioned that their Team 5 was in the same situation.
The villagers had fallen into deep poverty. Who had extra money to commission missions from Konoha anymore? Everyone was cutting costs wherever possible. Even Tenten's ninja tool shop was on the verge of bankruptcy. Right now, the only thriving business in Konoha was Ichiraku Ramen—because, despite inflation and financial collapse, Ichiraku never raised its prices.
Sasuke didn't know if eating too much Ichiraku ramen would have any side effects, but he never ate there anyway. These days, he barely needed to eat at all. Naruto, too, instinctively avoided it—an unconscious survival instinct he seemed to have been born with.
As for Kakashi's negligence, Sasuke couldn't care less. Sakura was dissatisfied, but didn't dare speak up. Only Naruto, as usual, had too much to say.
"If you're that bored," Sasuke said one day, "why not go back to the Academy and repeat a year?"
"Huh? Sasuke, what are you even talking about?" Naruto blinked at him, wide-eyed and confused.
"I'm saying this for your own good, Naruto," Sasuke said, flashing a bizarrely benevolent smile, looking at him the way one might look at a simple-minded child. "I remember Iruka-sensei once said that being a ninja is an extremely dangerous profession."
"From what I've seen of you these past few days... you're reckless, impulsive, and don't use your brain at all. Even if you somehow learn powerful jutsu, that doesn't make you a competent shinobi."
"If we ever have to go on a dangerous mission," Sasuke continued, his tone almost pitying, "your personality could very well get you killed. And as your teammate, I don't want to have to carry dead weight."
"You bastard, Sasuke..." Naruto growled, his face red with anger. Even Sakura and Kakashi's shadow clone looked stunned at Sasuke's bluntness.
Then Sasuke's expression softened even further, taking on an almost saintly air, as if he were offering divine compassion.
"Naruto," he said gravely, "do you have any idea how brutal a shinobi's life is? Becoming a ninja could cost you your life!"
"For your own safety, I have to stop you from becoming a ninja. There's no need to argue—I'm doing this for your own good."
The words sounded strange—twisted—but there was a grain of truth buried inside. Kakashi, surprisingly, wavered for just a moment. After a few days observing Naruto, he had already realized just how reckless the boy could be. But Naruto's identity...
"Shut up, you bastard!!" Naruto exploded, his fury uncontainable. "I'm going to be Hokage! There's no way I'm giving up being a ninja! Who are you to tell me how to live my life?!"
