Chapter 27 - Blessing and curse.

The divine blessing, [Domain of Victory], was a blessing he got from the goddess of the underworld, Ereshkigal.

As the history went, Ereshkigal was among the strongest gods in all ancient history, but when in the underworld, there was not a soul that could beat her.

This blessing granted Jayhan the ability to open up a domain that maxes out his stats, putting him in a state of invincibility. He could not be killed, nor could he receive any damage, as long as he was within the effect of the domain.

Now came the downside to every divine blessing.

The gods of history didn't live a fulfilled life until their death. Many wished to have lived longer; some yearned for love, and so on.

These longings that they could not grasp became a curse, a curse that would follow every blessing they handed to their contractee.

Attribute: [The Curse of a Goddess.]

In the game, Seo Yuna only discovered what the curse was for her during the fifth quest. The system made sure to keep the curse hidden.

That said, if you are well knowledgeable about the god you have made a contract with and their story, you should be able to at least have an idea of what their curses could be.

Ereshkigal was a goddess burdened with unwanted responsibility and loneliness; if Jayhan was to guess, it should be somewhere along the line of being forced to carry out her responsibility.

'Sigh! Not that I'm sure about that; Seo Yuna's own wasn't that easy.'

Just then, he picked up on his second blessing.

Divine blessing: [Child of Flames.]

This blessing granted him the ability to summon the three flames the goddess Amaterasu once commanded.

The flames of healing, which could heal any type of damage he received, both physical and spiritual.

The flames of retribution; he could control the flames at will, flames that could never go out, but could only be used against people who had wronged him.

And the last was the flames of the Phoenix; he could summon the mythical beast of flames, but at the cost of expending his life force.

'Amaterasu was a strong Japanese god, so I'm not too surprised. What I am worried about is the curse that follows with such a strong ability.'

With the gods, you can never be too careful.

'Open full stats.'

[Request confirmed.]

'God, I'm ready for what comes next…'

Jayhan calmly stood up from the can, chugging down the last of his drink.

'In face value, my main stats aren't all that impressive, but since a lot of people have not gotten the chance to even upgrade their stats, I am still by far ahead… besides…'

[Current coins: 17,000.]

'… I have enough coins if I ever feel the need to upgrade my stats.'

Though with the skills and blessings he had, he might not ever need to do that.

The information he had about the upcoming quests didn't require him to do anything drastic.

Then again… his knowledge only stretched as far as the fifth quest; anything more was beyond his control.

'I need to find the next part of the game before the fifth quest ends.'

Immediately upon exiting, a commotion drew Jayhan's gaze.

The group lounged on the picnic mat, but Veronica stood, arms crossed, facing a man seething with rage.

"You damn traitor, so this is where you've been hiding? Laughing it up with these fools!"

Veronica tilted her head, smirking. "Oh? I was sure you'd died back there. You're alive… huh?"

The man's face flushed crimson. "Don't feed me that nonsense! You ditched your team!"

"I didn't ditch anyone!" she shot back. "I gave you a chance to join me, but you ran off chasing that pointless green zone. Seriously, why are you so dense?"

"You—!" he spat, voice shaking with fury.

Jayhan, observing from the tent's entrance, quickly recognized the man.

Eric Fuentes.

The guy he'd met at the gaming store during the first quest.

'He looks… different,' Jayhan mused.

A jagged scar marred Eric's face, and his hair had thinned drastically, giving him a prematurely balding appearance.

Taking a steadying breath, Jayhan approached the scene.

The growing crowd of onlookers made him uneasy—he didn't want to attract more attention.

As he drew near, Kara caught his eye, a faint smile tugging at her lips. She knew Jayhan would handle it.

When Eric had stormed in, yelling at Veronica, the others had chosen to stay out of it.

They neither knew who the man was nor his relationship with Veronica. They couldn't be bothered to care either.

Moving closer to Veronica—

"Hey, been a while…" Jayhan waved at Eric, a small smile on his face.

"Uh… who are you?" Eric threw him a disgusted look.

"I'm hurt, you don't remember?" Jayhan pointed at himself. "I was the guy you asked to follow you at the game shop, remember?"

Just like that, Eric's face lit up; he remembered.

"It was you! You were the reason she ran away from us!" Anger clung to his voice.

"What are you talking about?"

"You don't know? This damn bitch left us when we needed her, talking about how we should have followed your lead! Such bullshit!"

[The character Eric is feeling hostile towards you.]

Seeing the notification playing in front of him, Jayhan's expression immediately changed.

'An enemy I guess…'

His eyes went dark, his expression serious as he listened to Eric rant.

"Even if we followed you, we would have still died; monsters were everywhere. What the hell should we have done?"

Eric suddenly paused, his eyes spotting the food on the mat.

"… So that's how it is."
