Chapter 10 - Entrance Door

The sky was overcast, and a cold wind blew hard across the deck of the ship. Seraphina, still under the identity of Choi Eun-kyung, stood at the bow, her eyes fixed on the horizon. The choppy sea reflected the whirlwind of emotions she felt. Ethan stood beside her, his gaze calculating and his smile ever present, as if he knew something she didn't.

"Are you ready?" he asked, his voice filled with a mixture of curiosity and challenge.

"I'm always ready," Seraphina replied, her voice firm, but her eyes shining with quiet determination. She knew that what lay ahead would not be easy, but she was willing to face anything to accomplish her mission.

Ethan chuckled softly, as if admiring her courage. "Good, because what comes next is not for the faint of heart."

After a while the sky was heavy with clouds, and the biting wind blew hard across the deck of the ship. The rough seas crashed against the hull, creating a constant, unsettling sound. Seraphina, still under the identity of Choi Eun-kyung, stood at the bow, her eyes fixed on the horizon. She wore a simple coat, but her posture was that of someone undeterred by the hostile environment. Her brown hair blew in the wind, and her eyes, ever watchful, watched every movement around her.

Ethan approached her, his usual smile plastered on his face. He looked relaxed, as if he were on a casual stroll, but Seraphina knew he was always calculating, always observing.

"You're quiet," he commented, leaning on the railing beside her. "Nervous?"

"Curious," she replied, without taking her eyes off the horizon. "I don't like going into unfamiliar places without knowing what to expect."

Ethan chuckled softly, as if he admired her caution. "Fair enough. But know that the Order of Erebus is not a place for the unprepared. What you will face there will test everything in you: body, mind, and soul." Seraphina finally looked at him, her eyes shining with quiet determination. "I am not here to fail." Ethan kept his smile, but there was something dark in his eyes. "Good, because many enter, but few leave." As the ship continued to sail, Seraphina decided to explore the deck. She knew that among the other participants there would be potential allies and enemies, and she needed to assess the situation. The deck was filled with people of all backgrounds: some seemed ex-military, others criminals, and some had an aura of mystery that was difficult to decipher. She approached a group that was talking near the stern. They seemed confident, almost arrogant, and Seraphina knew that this type of person could be dangerous. One of them, a tall, muscular man with a scar on his face, looked at her with disdain.

"What are you looking at?" he asked, his voice thick with teasing.

Seraphina remained calm, but her eyes flashed with silent warning. "Just watching. Is there something wrong with that?"

The man stepped forward, his gaze challenging. "This is no place for weaklings. If you can't handle it, you might as well jump ship now."

Seraphina didn't back down. Instead, she stepped forward, closing the distance between them. "I'm not weak," she said, her voice firm and thick with a veiled threat. "And if you keep provoking me, you're going to find out the hard way."

The group laughed, but it was nervous laughter. The scarred man stared at her for a moment, as if gauging her resolve, and then stepped back, raising his hands in a gesture of mock surrender.

"Fine, fine," he said, his smile still scornful. "Just don't say I didn't warn you."

Seraphina didn't respond. She simply turned her back and walked away, knowing she had marked her territory. She wasn't there to make friends, but she wasn't going to let anyone underestimate her either.

Later, as the ship approached the island, the tension between the participants was rising. Seraphina was sitting in a corner, watching the interactions around her, when she heard shouting coming from across the deck. She stood up and walked over, seeing two men fighting. One of them was the same scarred man who had provoked her earlier, and the other was a younger participant who seemed to be trying to defend himself.

"You think you can come in here and get away with it?" the scarred man shouted, grabbing the young man by the collar of his shirt. "This is no place for children!"

The young man tried to pull away, but he was clearly weaker. Seraphina watched for a moment, assessing the situation, and then decided to intervene.

"Leave him alone," she said, her voice firm and filled with authority.

The scarred man looked at her, his gaze challenging. "And you're going to stop me?"

Seraphina didn't respond. Instead, she stepped forward and, with one swift, precise movement, disarmed the man, forcing him to release the young man. He looked at her in surprise, but his expression quickly turned to anger.

"You're going to regret this," he said, advancing toward her.

The fight was quick but intense. The scarred man was strong, but Seraphina was quick and skillful. She dodged his blows with ease, using her agility to counterattack. In a matter of seconds, he was on the ground, clutching his twisted arm and grunting in pain.

"I warned you," Seraphina said, her voice calm but filled with a quiet threat. "Don't tease me."

The young man she had saved looked at her with admiration and gratitude. "Thank you," he said, his voice shaking.

Seraphina simply nodded, saying nothing more. She knew that in this environment, any sign of weakness could be exploited. She wasn't there to make friends, but she also wouldn't allow injustice to happen before her eyes.

When the ship finally docked at the island, the tension between the participants was palpable. Ethan approached Seraphina, his usual smile plastered on his face.

"You caused quite a stir back there," he commented, his voice filled with a mixture of admiration and caution.

"I was just keeping order," Seraphina replied, her voice firm. "Something wrong with that?"

Ethan chuckled softly. "No, no. Just remember that in the Order of Erebus, not everyone will like you. And some will try to bring you down."

"I expected this," Seraphina said, her eyes shining with quiet determination. "I'm not here to make friends." Ethan stared at her for a moment, as if gauging her resolve, then nodded. "Good. Because what comes next is not for the faint of heart." He led her to a hidden entrance in the cliffs. The door was massive, made of dark metal and adorned with strange symbols that seemed to pulse with sinister energy. Ethan punched a code into a panel beside it, and the door swung open with a low, ominous sound. "Within these walls, you will be tested in ways you never imagined," Ethan explained, his voice now serious. "The Order of Erebos doesn't accept just anyone. To join us, you will need to prove yourself worthy." Seraphina looked at him, her eyes shining with a mixture of determination and caution. "And how do I do that?"

Ethan smiled, but there was something dark in his expression. "You will face five phases of testing. Each one is designed to challenge not only your physical abilities, but also your mind and soul. I can't tell you what to expect, because that would give the other participants an advantage. But know this: many enter, but few leave."

Seraphina felt a lump form in her throat, but she didn't let the fear overcome her. "I'm not here to fail."

Ethan laughed, but this time, there was something almost admirable in his gaze. "I knew you'd say that. Good luck, Choi Eun-kyung. You'll need it."

He took a step back, and the door began to close. Seraphina looked at him one last time, her eyes shining with quiet determination. "I don't need luck," she said, her voice firm. "I only need myself."

The door closed with a final thud, and Seraphina was left alone in a dark, silent hallway. She took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the mission on her shoulders, but also the determination not to fail.

The hallway led her to a huge room, lit by dim lights and filled with people. There were hundreds, perhaps thousands, of participants, all with varying expressions: some seemed confident, others nervous, and some even desperate. Seraphina observed them carefully, analyzing each face, each movement. She knew that among these people there were potential allies and enemies.

She found a place to sit, away from the crowd, and began to mentally prepare herself for what was to come. As she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, a voice echoed through the room.

"Welcome, candidates," the voice said, cold and impersonal. "You are here because you have been chosen to join the Order of Erebus. But know that only the strongest, the most intelligent, and the most determined will survive."

Seraphina opened her eyes, her attention fully focused on the voice. She knew the game was about to begin.

"The first phase will begin soon," the voice continued. "Prepare yourselves. And remember: there is no room for weakness here."

The room fell silent, the tension in the air almost palpable. Seraphina felt a chill run down her spine, but she did not allow fear to overcome her. She was ready to face whatever the Order of Erebus threw at her.

As Seraphina waited, her mind worked quickly, trying to predict what the first phase might be like. She knew that no matter the challenge, she would need to remain calm and use her skills to the fullest.

Suddenly, the lights in the room went out, and a low sound echoed off the walls. Seraphina went on high alert, her senses heightened. She knew the first test was about to begin.

"Good luck, Choi Eun-kyung," she muttered to herself, her eyes shining with quiet determination. "You cannot fail."

Seraphina enters the contestants' room, where thousands of candidates await the start of the trials. Tensions are high, and the mystery of what lies ahead creates an oppressive and exciting atmosphere. Seraphina is determined to rise to any challenge, but she knows that the trials of the Order of Erebus will not be easy.
