Chapter 22 - THE MISSION BEGINS .....

[Scene: Adeline's Basement – The Mission Begins]

Adeline sits cross-legged at her desk in the basement, surrounded by ancient books, Jeremy's school notebooks, and a very confused cat who wandered in uninvited. A bulletin board is pinned with clippings and sketches of the mysterious board game—its glowing symbols drawn in meticulous detail by Adeline herself. She stares at the board with determination, muttering to herself as she organizes her thoughts.

Adeline: [dramatically] "There is no such thing as coincidence, only poorly disguised connections! This board didn't just appear out of nowhere—it has a story. A dangerous story."

Jeremy, half-dressed in his school uniform and shoving a toast into his mouth, stumbles into the basement. He stares at the chaotic scene in disbelief.

Jeremy: [muffled through toast] "Are you creating a conspiracy theory wall in our basement?"

Adeline spins around, one hand on her hip and the other pointing a pencil at him.

Adeline: "This is no conspiracy, Jeremy. This is investigative brilliance. I am unearthing the secrets of the object that uprooted my peaceful existence and dragged me into the world of snack-crazed teenagers."

Jeremy: [rolling his eyes] "Right. I'll leave you to it. I have a math quiz, two essays, and about five million other things to deal with. Let me know when you solve all the world's problems."

He rushes back upstairs, leaving Adeline with the cat, who seems to nod approvingly.

[Scene: School – Chaos Everywhere]

Meanwhile, Jeremy's day unfolds in the usual whirlwind of chaos. Jace is trying to convince everyone to let him direct the school play, Amara is freaking out about an art competition, and Leo is busy arguing with their homeroom teacher about why "snacks should be allowed during class discussions."

Jace: [leaning over Jeremy's desk] "C'mon, man, back me up here! I'd be the perfect director. I've got vision!"

Jeremy: [deadpan] "Your last 'vision' involved a fog machine at the talent show. It set off the fire alarms."

Amara: [groaning] "Forget the play! Jeremy, I need your opinion on whether this painting looks like a tree or a blob."

Leo: [to the teacher] "I'm just saying, chips make discussions more dynamic. It's science."

Jeremy buries his face in his hands, wishing he could borrow some of Adeline's "investigative brilliance" to get through his day.

[Scene: Adeline's Research – A Breakthrough]

Back in the basement, Adeline's research starts paying off. She discovers that the board game's strange symbols match those used by an ancient guild of summoners who were notorious for creating objects that acted as gateways between realms. She scribbles notes furiously, her excitement palpable.

Adeline: [to the cat, who is now asleep on a stack of papers] "Aha! The 'Convergence Guild.' They must have designed this cursed game. Oh, Jeremy will be thrilled when I tell him."

She pauses, imagining Jeremy's reaction—likely a combination of exasperation and glazed-over eyes.

Adeline: [sighing] "Or perhaps I'll simplify it for him. Mortals do have such short attention spans."

[Scene: Evening – Adeline's Discovery]

That evening, Jeremy sits in the living room, attempting to finish his math homework while his dad complains about the broken dishwasher, and his mom schedules a dentist appointment for him. Just as Jeremy thinks his head might explode, Adeline sweeps into the room, carrying a stack of notes and diagrams.

Adeline: [excitedly] "Jeremy! Put down that… math thing. We have urgent matters to discuss."

Jeremy: [groaning] "Unless it's about how to get out of tomorrow's chemistry test, I don't want to hear it."

Adeline plops her notes onto the table, completely ignoring his protest.

Adeline: "The board game—it's connected to the Convergence Guild, an ancient group of summoners who specialized in creating pathways between realms. Their goal was to control who could cross over, and they designed objects—like this game—to act as keys. Now, why it ended up in your possession is still unclear, but I suspect there's more to it than random chance."

Jeremy stares at her, overwhelmed.

Jeremy: "Okay, cool. Great. Summoner guilds, pathways, all that. But how is this supposed to help me survive high school?"

Adeline: [smirking] "Oh, don't be so dramatic, Jeremy. You'll thank me when we prevent the next spirit-related disaster. Now, we need to retrace the game's origins. Where exactly did you find it?"

[Scene: The Investigation Begins]

The next weekend, Adeline and the group embark on a mission to uncover the board game's history. They visit the antique shop where Jeremy first found it, hoping for answers. The shopkeeper, an eccentric old man with mismatched socks, raises an eyebrow as they approach.

Shopkeeper: "Ah, the board game. Strange one, that. Traded it for a pair of garden gnomes last year. Came from some estate sale—big mansion outside town."

Jace: [grinning] "An abandoned mansion? This just got way more interesting!"

Amara: [groaning] "Great. That's exactly where I wanted to spend my Saturday—creeping around a spooky mansion."

Leo: [munching on chips] "Hey, at least it's not boring. Let's go."

[Scene: The Mansion – Mystery Deepens]

The group arrives at the abandoned mansion, its looming structure casting long shadows in the fading daylight. Adeline stands at the entrance, her ethereal aura practically glowing with determination.

Adeline: "This is where it all began. Let's see what secrets this place holds."

As they explore the dusty, creaking hallways, they find strange artifacts and faded paintings depicting figures that look eerily similar to the symbols on the board game. The deeper they go, the more unsettling the atmosphere becomes—whispered voices, flickering lights, and a feeling of being watched.

Jace: [nervously] "Uh, guys? Are we sure this is a good idea?"

Adeline: [calmly] "Cowardice doesn't suit you, Jace. Onward!"

Eventually, they stumble upon a hidden room filled with books and scrolls. Adeline's eyes light up as she examines the texts.

Adeline: [murmuring to herself] "This is it—the Convergence Guild's library. The answers are here."
