Chapter 70 - Class C Attack

In the blink of an eye, the end of the month was approaching, and there was only about a week left until the midterm exams.

Under Kaoru Mitoma guidance, Kamuro Masumi grades had improved by leaps and bounds. Judging by the difficulty of the last test, she'd probably be able to raise her score from the sixties to the eighties.

But Kamuro Masumi had thought he'd keep doing weird things, only to find that he suddenly settled down and stopped making any perverted requests. Instead, she was the one who felt a little out of place.

Kaoru Mitoma not acting like a pervert around her just felt strange. Especially when she saw Kaoru Mitoma looking all serious, as if nothing could catch his attention. It made her want to grumble about it in her head.

Of course, Kamuro Masumi was also a little annoyed.

Because Kaoru Mitoma was always chatting with Shiina Hiyori about things she couldn't understand, no matter how hard she tried to eavesdrop, she just couldn't join in.

It made her feel like she was being left out of their circle. What surprised her even more was that after witnessing her and Kaoru Mitoma together, Shiina Hiyori didn't run away?

Normally, if someone saw a guy and a girl messing around like that, they'd probably leave, right?

Kamuro Masumi didn't really care about how others saw her, she was just curious about what Shiina Hiyori was thinking.

"Mitoma-kun, have you ever tried Dorothy L. Sayers' series? Her novels have a really unique style, and the way she tells stories is interesting. I think you'd like them." Today, Shiina Hiyori was once again recommending her favorite novels to Kaoru Mitoma.

"Do you have a reading list?"

"Of course I do, but I suggest you start with 'Whose Body?' If you like it, you probably won't be able to stop until you've finished the whole series."

"Alright, I'll borrow the book from the library before I go home."

"This library has a huge collection, and if you're not familiar with where things are, it might take a while to find it." Shiina Hiyori smiled a little awkwardly.

"Um, do you want me to help you look?" She used to have quite a few personal books in her backpack, like works by Lawrence Block and Isaac Asimov. But Shiina Hiyori just couldn't help herself—she recommended them all to Kaoru Mitoma a while ago, and he finished reading them, so now she had to suggest other novels.

"I dont want to bother you too much"

Kaoru Mitoma felt a bit helpless about her boundless energy. It seemed like she really didn't have anyone else to talk to, so she just latched onto him and kept going.

"No, no, I was actually worried I might be bothering you."

Shiina Hiyori watched his reaction closely, not wanting to see any sign of annoyance on his face.

"Honestly, it's a little overwhelming, but the novels you recommend are actually pretty good, so I don't mind if you give me more. Actually, it's just right this way."

Kaoru Mitoma didn't let her down and even gave her a small smile. Maybe she caught his mood, because Shiina Hiyori smiled happily too, her eyes curving into crescents.

"Come to think of it, doesn't this kind of make us friends?" Kaoru Mitoma asked, trying to sound casual.

"Actually, Mitoma-kun, you're the first friend I've made from another class, and the first person I can talk about novels with."

"You're also the first classmate from another class I can talk about novels with," Kaoru Mitoma replied with a smile.

Kamuro Masumi, who was working on problems nearby, couldn't help but purse her lips. That's because you never read novels at all, do you?

Even so, she had to admit that Kaoru Mitoma was really on another level.

Facing a book girl like Shiina Hiyori, he could not only keep up with her conversation, but even manage to pique her interest.

Finishing a novel in two days and having his own interpretation—seriously impressive. Kamuro Masumi knew she couldn't do that. If someone made her finish a book in two days, she'd rather be dead. But so what?

Everything Kaoru Mitoma had done with Shiina Hiyori, she reported to Sakayanagi Arisu without hesitation. The only person who could deal with Kaoru Mitoma was someone just as cunning and devious.

No doubt about it, Sakayanagi Arisu was perfect for the job. But just then, a commotion broke out not far away.

"Damn it, you totally stole my stuff!"

"W-wait, I don't remember having this in my bag?!"

"So all of you in Class B are thieves!"

With the girl loud shout, almost everyone in the library turned to look, including Kaoru Mitoma.

A few girls were standing in front of the Class B students. One of them was glaring angrily at Class B, while the girl facing her just looked completely lost, not knowing what to do. There were several schoolbags on their table, looking messy, as if someone had just rummaged through them.

For some reason, seeing those girls made Shiina Hiyori' expression change. Kaoru Mitoma didn't miss her reaction and probed,

"They look like students from Class C?"

"Yeah, that's Manabe and Yamashita from my class…" Shiina Hiyori paused and didn't continue.

"Looks like your class had a little run-in with Class B." Kaoru Mitoma watched the students from Class B. Ichinose Honami was among them, but the leader of Class B seemed stunned, not reacting at all.

He didn't know what had happened, but the girls from Class C were aggressively confronting Class B, and Class B couldn't even defend themselves. Some of the girls looked like they were about to cry.

Wait, Ichinose, are you just going to stand there and watch?

Thinking of this, Kaoru Mitoma let out a sigh and stood up.

"What are you doing?"

Kamuro Masumi noticed his movement.

"I'm a member of the student council. I have to step in and stop this kind of dispute. After all, this is a public place. We can't let the commotion continue."

As he spoke, Kaoru Mitoma glanced around out of the corner of his eye, but didn't see any sign of Ryuuen. He only saw a few students who looked like they were from Class C watching the situation. Are they trying to deliberately minimize their involvement and make it look like a sudden incident?

Watching Kaoru Mitoma walk toward the direction of Class B and Class C, Kamuro Masumi couldn't help but glance at Shiina Hiyori beside her.

"Aren't you going to check it out?" Shiina shook her head at her question.

"I rarely join in with class activities. I'm not interested in that kind of thing." Kamuro found it odd. How could this be called a class activity?

Your whole class is about to get into a fight with Class B. At the very least, shouldn't you want to watch the drama?

Or is this her way of saying she's just a loner?

Just as Kamuro was thinking this, Shiina suddenly stared at her worksheet, then kindly pointed something out.

"You got part of this question wrong. Your approach isn't right, so it'll be hard to get the correct answer." Kamuro crossed out her own solution with a blank face and said stiffly,

"I already knew the answer to this one. I was just trying to figure out a new way to solve it." Shiina looked apologetic.

"I just thought, since you're Mitoma-kun friend, so… sorry, I shouldn't have butted in and given you advice." Seeing her like this, Kamuro felt a little awkward.

She was just being stubborn, and now she didn't know how to respond.

How does Kaoru Mitoma even deal with people like this?
