Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Two Choices

The Special Security team is responsible for the daily security and patrol work of Fontaine, a combination of police and urban management, and is a powerful organization with law enforcement power.

Losing the Special Security team would be an unacceptable and significant loss for the Lannis family.

What's even more unacceptable to them is that Herbert is very likely to be imprisoned.

When Neuvillette announced that the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale had determined Lin Yide to be innocent, Herbert immediately hurried out of the Opera Epiclese.

In comparison, Baker's reaction speed was noticeably slower. When he came to his senses and tried to leave, he found that Lin Yide had blocked his path.

He hadn't even left the Opera Epiclese before Lin Yide stopped him.

"Baron Baker, you have two choices right now,"

Lin Yide said slowly, a smile playing on the corner of his lips, his voice revealing a chilling authority. "The first choice is to come with me quietly."

Baker was stunned by Lin Yide's aura, and it took him a moment to recover before asking, "What's the other choice?"

A one-handed sword suddenly appeared in Lin Yide's hand, the blade gleaming coldly, reflecting his handsome and indifferent face.

"Get beaten by me, and then," he paused, his voice even colder, "come with me quietly."

After hearing this, Baker understood that the other party was deliberately toying with him. He said angrily, "Yide, don't forget, this is Fontaine! The nation of justice! If you dare to act recklessly, you will one day be severely punished by the law!"

Lin Yide couldn't help but chuckle. "You're talking to me about the law?" He stared coldly at Baker, as if looking at a clown.

"That's the funniest joke I've ever heard.

Where was the law when you framed me?

When your uncle Holsen imprisoned and molested young girls, did you ever have any regard for the law?"

Baker was rendered speechless by Lin Yide's righteous questioning, his face turning pale, unsure how to respond.

Just then, a dignified and angry voice suddenly rang out behind Lin Yide, breaking the brief silence.

"Yide, don't go too far!" The voice was deep and powerful. "Don't forget, you are also a noble!"

Lin Yide turned around, and what came into view was Tywin's stern and serious face.

His gaze was like a knife, piercing straight into Lin Yide's eyes.

The smile on Lin Yide's face grew even stronger, revealing a hint of provocation and disdain. "Oh? Isn't this the head of the Lannis family, the esteemed Lord Tywin? What, do you want to discuss the glory of the nobility with me, and have a wonderful duel?"

Upon hearing this, Tywin's face instantly turned ashen. The word "duel" was like a sharp thorn, piercing deeply into the wound in his heart.

He sternly warned, "The Marechaussee Phantom will thoroughly investigate all your illegal activities!"

Lin Yide didn't care about his threat, and the mocking smile remained on his face. "The West Factory will also investigate the illegal activities of the Marechaussee Phantom.

Oh, right, tell your precious son Herbert to turn himself in as soon as possible.

To not even understand how to play such a low-down trick as framing someone, the Lannis family really is a bunch of despicable trash."

Tywin was trembling with anger at Lin Yide's words. If it weren't for his superb swordsmanship, he would have drawn his sword and rushed forward to tear Lin Yide to pieces long ago.

He suppressed the anger in his heart, squeezed a cold snort from his nostrils, then flicked his sleeves and turned to leave.

Tywin's departure completely shattered the hope that Baker had originally had. His face ashen, he followed behind Lin Yide.

However, just as they were walking not far from the Opera Epiclese.

Suddenly, Lin Yide felt a sense of alertness, and a strong sense of crisis surged into his heart.

Almost instinctively, he suddenly turned around, and with a "ping" sound, a gunshot pierced the silence of the air, and a bullet grazed his body.

Lin Yide's reaction speed had reached its limit, but Baker next to him did not have such good luck.

The bullet ruthlessly pierced his chest, bringing with it a splash of bright red blood.

Baker's body fell limply to the ground, hitting the ground with a dull thud.

This scene happened so fast that the people around hadn't even had time to react.

Lin Yide's eyes instantly became cold and sharp, and he quickly locked onto the shooter's location.

Immediately afterwards, he summoned a blunt sword in his hand, the blade gleaming coldly, reflecting a dazzling light in the sun.

Lin Yide moved like lightning, rushing towards the shooter with lightning speed. His speed was extremely fast, and he had almost instantly closed the distance between himself and the shooter.

The shooter was no ordinary person either. He had already prepared to escape the moment he fired the shot.

Sensing Lin Yide's approach, he turned around and ran without hesitation.

Lin Yide pursued relentlessly, while the shooter tried his best to escape. The two weaved through the intricate streets and alleys, sometimes rushing to the roof, sometimes jumping over obstacles, engaging in a chase.

On the other side, Baker, lying in a pool of blood, was groaning in pain, constantly calling for help.

His chest was bleeding profusely, and his life was slowly ebbing away.

A team of Marechaussee Phantom agents quickly arrived at the scene and surrounded Baker. They were dressed in uniform black uniforms, with cold expressions on their faces.

At first, Baker thought these people were here to save him. He struggled to ask them for help, but found that they were just looking at him coldly without saying a word, with no intention of taking any rescue action.

He finally understood their true intention - they were not here to save him, but to confirm his death.

But it was too late. He could only watch himself sink into darkness forever.

When the gunman jumped from a height of tens of meters into the turbulent sea in a panic, Lin Yide stopped and chose to give up the chase.

He didn't need to risk his life to hunt down a fugitive.

When he returned to the scene of the shooting, Baker's body had been covered with a white cloth, declaring the end of this life.

Lin Yide's face was extremely ugly, and his heart was full of anger and helplessness.

The nobles, when pushed to the brink, could even do such things as openly killing people in the street!
