Chapter 1 - Chapter 1- Unfortunate Soul

[Ding!]

A distinct notification sound rang through the deserted empty hallway of polished concrete that gleamed with a neat sheen under the bright LED lights.

Standing by the glass facade, previously staring below at the bustling night scene with distant roars of several luxurious vehicles heading towards the club a few buildings down the road – was a young man looking to be in his mid-twenties, just about 26.

Brown hair, average look and a toned physique from all the non-stop work in the past few years.

Currently, he was wearing an ash gray durable overall, holding onto the cleaning prolly as he slipped out his phone to take a look at the lit screen.

(Sell your organs. If you don't, we'll be there to take it tomorrow.)

(Sorry… I already have a new boyfriend.)

"I am really going to die young, huh?"

Upon reading the first text, Owen's expression became grim, feeling so much dread with a slightly palpitating heartbeat that he didn't bother reacting to the breakup text beneath it but instead began to type a series of replies to the threatening message.

Who knew fate could be so cruel… and comical.

Graduating from Oxford as a Master of Engineering, he had thought his plan of breaking his family's line of mediocrity and poverty succeeded.

However, after a year of initial excitement, still searching for a job, he woke up to the harrowing reality that he was probably cursed.

The loan his father took from the bank to pay his tuition fees before his death couldn't be paid, so they took the house – leaving him with nothing but two sets of hungry loan sharks who brought a contract with his father's fingerprint on it, revealing they were both owed $25,000 each with a 10% increase in interest every year.

"They blocked me?"

About to tap on the send icon, Owen realized it had turned dim. Forcefully tapping it a few times, a red error font flashed in the inbox.

"...Fuck." With a realization that they were serious this time around, Owen felt his legs turning weaker and let out a low curse.

Blankly staring at his phone screen, he flicked the screen, bringing him to a list of rejected emails.

Tapping on the breakup text from his girlfriend, he saw that the send icon had also turned dim, signifying that she blocked him.

'I give up… I honestly give up at this point.' Inwardly resigning to his fate–

"Oh dear… even low-life scums manage to find a girlfriend nowadays? How quaint.

They say love is blind— I'm glad the poor girl finally regained her sight." A low mocking chuckle peered over his shoulders, and just then, he felt a hand grabbing his shoulder.

Thrown out of his blank state, Owen's first reaction was to jerk his body from the hand and turn the cleaning prolly around.

However, halfway through performing this action, he halted upon seeing the familiar twisted smile curling up the person's ugly cheeks.

"Mrs. Brenda…" Owen called in a slightly hostile, alerted manner as his eyes met the heavyset woman with a doughy face and probably sagging tits underneath her outfit – while trying to suppress his anger from her actions just now.

"Oh, someone's all barked up. Perhaps you want to bite?"

Seeing his contorted cheeks while swallowing the rest of the unspoken word, her bald brows furrowed curiously and her lips formed a sneer.

"I see you're slacking off – expect a deduction from your pay, Mr. Owen." With a cunning glint in her eyes, she moved her plump body closer and told him to his face.

*'Bastardious bitch! Fucking plump hag!'*

These were the words Owen honestly wanted to say to her face. But he knew better than to dare, or he would need to start searching for another company that would hire him with less pay.

As they say in the Facilities Department, 'the fear of Mrs. Brenda, the Facilities Manager, was a taste of the devil's insidiousness.' All those who crossed her path or refused her wants ended up quitting on their own volition.

Having refused her wants before, Owen knew he was on her top list. But despite that, he persisted working here for the pay.

"Thank you, Mrs. Brenda." Giving a respectful nod, he pulled the prolly from her front and stood by the side, digesting his reluctance while a victorious glow formed on her cheeks.

Watching her walk past—

[Ding!]
