Just as the three ancient dragons shared memories, the battle outside raged. Bolstered by the arrival of blue dragons from the Blue Winged Plateau, the Wyrmrest Accord forces numerically overwhelmed Malygos's remaining blue dragons. The Nexus defenders, bewildered and outmatched, were swiftly subdued and captured.
Meanwhile, within the Nexus, Ancagalon and Sindragosa had driven the magic web guardians, Eregos and Cyanigosa, into a full retreat. The sheer disparity in power left the two loyal confidants of the Blue Dragon King utterly defenseless. Soon, the two blue dragons lay defeated at the Nexus's entrance. Though they still writhed in defiance, Sindragosa unleashed a torrent of frost dragon breath. Despite their exceptional magical resistance, the two blue dragons were encased in massive ice sculptures, only their eyes capable of movement. Ancagalon and Sindragosa exchanged a look and entered the Nexus together.
Following closely behind were the Red Dragon Queen, Chromie, and Senegos. The Nexus's interior was a labyrinth of magical locations: the Songweave Forest, the Alignment Spire, the Occulus, the Library, and numerous treasure vaults. Yet, with Sindragosa leading the way, they swiftly navigated to the heart of the structure.
There, atop the Eye of Eternity's platform, the very core of the magic web, lay Malygos. Behind the Blue Dragon King, a blue crystal, resembling a massive eyeball, floated horizontally in the air – the Focusing Iris, a fragment of the Titans' magical authority. As the purest arcane energy on Azeroth, the Titans had entrusted the blue dragonflight with the stewardship of magical artifacts. The Focusing Iris aided the Spell-Weaver in managing Azeroth's magic. In dire circumstances, it could even absorb all arcane energy, but this would render it dangerously unstable, its explosion capable of shattering the entire world. The Blue Dragon King commanded the magic web's power; if he disregarded the consequences, he could bring about universal annihilation. Fortunately, Malygos's madness, unlike Neltharion's, did not extend to a desire for Azeroth's destruction.
"Dare to challenge the authority of the blue dragonflight? Are you prepared to die!" A violent tremor shook the Nexus's summit, surging arcane energy vibrating through the very air. A blinding flash of azure light erupted, and a colossal blue dragon burst forth from the Nexus's wide-open magic gate. "Let me see who has invaded my domain! Your audacity cannot compensate for your utter foolishness!" Malygos's once brilliant blue eyes were now bloodshot, a stark testament to his fractured sanity. "Ah, two blue dragons I have never encountered before. Have you come to pay homage to your king? I shall grant you a chance. Swear allegiance to me, and perhaps I shall overlook your arrogance!"
Facing Malygos, Ancagalon remained largely silent, the weight of their shared history too profound. But Sindragosa was different. The former consort of the Blue Dragonflight harbored a deep-seated hatred for the Blue Dragon King. Ten thousand years ago, Malygos and Sindragosa had led their flight to besiege the Earth-Warder, only for Neltharion's devastating attack with the Dragon Soul to decimate their ranks. Sindragosa had been flung far to the north, crashing into the frozen earth of Icecrown. Her eyes destroyed, teetering on the brink of death, she had desperately clawed towards Dragonblight, her final plea for help to Malygos met only by the whistling of the frigid wind. In agonizing clarity, she had realized her journey to peace was over. Her sanity had ebbed away with her life. But when she had opened her eyes again, she was reborn, a whelp stripped of most of her power. Yet, she cherished this second chance, even if her resurrection was orchestrated by Neltharion in the guise of a blue dragon. However, Malygos's descent into madness, compared to Cyanigosa's quiet strength, deeply disappointed her. As for her unexpected partnership with Ancagalon, it was a development she hadn't foreseen.
"Wake up, Malygos! There is still time to cease this madness!" Galen's directive to the two dragons was to defeat the Blue Dragon King within the Nexus and then, with the prestige of victory, claim the mantle of the new magic guardian. However, mindful of their complex history with Malygos, Galen had promised that if they could bring the Blue Dragon King back to his senses, he would accept a secondary role. But Sindragosa had clearly overestimated Malygos's remaining sanity, and her unfamiliar face rendered her words futile.
"Roar!" Malygos bellowed, "Arrogant she-dragon! You will pay the ultimate price for your treachery!" The colossal form of the Magic Dragon King rose on the Nexus platform, and in the next instant, his figure shimmered, becoming ephemeral. "I am the embodiment of magic!" He materialized before the two blue dragons, his crystalline teeth bared, and a vast amount of arcane energy gathered in his maw. With a deafening roar, an ice-blue beam of pure magical force descended from the sky. Intangible magic made tangible by the Magic King, it was the rawest, most violent expression of arcane power. Malygos possessed the purest magical energy on Azeroth, and in his rage, it became terrifyingly volatile. To put it plainly, this single blast of dragon breath contained enough magical energy to sustain all the Nightborne of Suramar for over half a month. The blue dragonflight commanded the most abundant magical power in all of Azeroth!
Though Ancagalon and Sindragosa were also demigods, they dared not confront the Blue Dragon King's attack head-on. The two blue dragons beat their wings, ascending rapidly, flanking Malygos from the left and right. Using magic against the Blue Dragon King in his enraged state was suicidal; their best chance lay in the most primal form of giant dragon combat: melee. This was also Ancagalon's forte, an instinct etched deep within his very being.
"Roar!" Malygos roared in pain as Ancagalon's swift attack grazed his ribs, dragon blood splattering across the platform. "Traitors! I had intended to end your miserable existences swiftly, but you have enraged me! I will show you that your pathetic efforts are meaningless! Extinction awaits you!"
