In the original timeline, it was Theryssia who journeyed to Outland to study the mutated Nether Drakes and subsequently brought her discoveries back to restore the Blue Dragon King's sanity, a madness that had gripped him for nearly ten millennia.
However, in this altered timeline, with Galen's intervention, the Dark Portal never opened, preventing the Orcs from launching their second invasion. Draenor fell entirely under Galen's control, denying the other races of Azeroth any access. Consequently, with Draenor remaining intact, the Nether Drakes could not have come into existence.
Yet, Aragorn, wielding Tyr's power of order, possessed the ability to physically shock the Blue Dragon King's sanity back into place!
Having regained his lucidity, Malygos readily relinquished his position as Dragon Aspect, channeling the core power of the Guardian into the Focusing Iris. He then embraced a new role, happily participating in the hatching of dragon eggs and the nurturing of young whelps.
The selection of the new Guardian would occur during the Dual Moon Ritual, a celestial phenomenon where Azeroth's two moons align perfectly. Legend held that the Dragon Guardians received their Titan-granted powers to protect Azeroth during such alignments. The ritual harnessed the potent energy of this celestial event to choose the new Magic King, the Blue Dragon Guardian.
The Dual Moon Ritual was not a test of intellect, nor could it be decided by a vote among the Blue Dragons or other dragonflights. Its true measure lay in the heart of the one receiving the blessing. The current five Dragon Aspects owed their chance to Tyr's intervention. Had their inherent qualities been insufficient, they would have failed the trial to become Dragon Guardians.
Kalecgos, an elite second-generation Blue Dragon within the Nexus, and Ancagalon, a respected figure within the Blue Wing Lair, a branch of the Blue Dragonflight, were the recognized candidates, both possessing strong individual merits. While other Blue Dragons were eligible to try, many of the Blue Dragon females in the Nexus expressed feeling inadequate for the responsibility of leading the flight. The Blue Dragon King's most exceptional offspring, Arygos, had vanished after participating in the War of the Shifting Sands millennia ago. Sindragosa, while possessing ample strength, showed no inclination to compete with Ancagalon.
With the Dual Moon alignment occurring only once this month, the two candidates were swiftly making their preparations. The ritual's location was the Nexus Core, a vast blue platform etched with intricate runes. This space was otherwise empty, its primary allure being the pure magic forming celestial patterns in the dark expanse.
As the optimal time for the ceremony approached, the chamber filled with members of the Blue Dragonflight, along with a contingent of Red Dragons, Bronze Dragons, and Galen, who had come to observe. Malygos's madness and subsequent declaration of war had deeply concerned the pureblood Blue Dragons residing outside the Nexus.
Beyond Coldarra, the Blue Dragons maintained strongholds in Mazthoril in Winterspring, Kalimdor; Lake Mennar in Azshara; and the Ruinous Pillar Ruins in Dragonblight. These locations were either sites of intense magical activity or the resting places of powerful magical artifacts. As Titan-appointed magic guardians, the Blue Dragons were responsible for monitoring and safeguarding these areas. Consequently, most of the independent pureblood Blue Dragons lived in relative seclusion, explaining why Malygos had only Eragosa and Cyanigosa, two adult dragons, at his side when he declared his reckless war. This core group of pureblood Blue Dragons formed the foundation of their flight. However, with such a low overall population, replenishing their numbers proved challenging, even with Senegos's return. The pureblood dragons numbered only half that of the other dragonflights.
Ironically, the lower ranks of the Blue Dragonflight were populated by numerous Blue Dragonkin and mixed-blood dragons. This peculiar demographic might be attributed to the Blue Dragons' unconventional views on mate selection. While unions with humans or high elves were not unheard of, instances of Blue Dragons forming bonds with wells or soul healers were… less conventional. Aside from those cultivated through later magical processes, most Blue Dragonkin were descendants of mortals who had once worked closely with the Blue Dragons. Their offspring were often half-human, half-dragon hybrids, serving as infantry, emissaries to mortal races, and warriors within the Blue Dragonflight. While the pureblood dragons respected them, they were essentially vassals, instilled from birth with the unwavering belief in protecting the dragon race.
Kalecgos was the first to step into the center of the Nexus platform. His transformed mortal guise was that of a young human male with gentle blue eyes. His black hair was neatly styled, and he wore a blue cloak, his entire demeanor that of a languid, wandering poet, exuding an air of decadent charm. Damn it! We asked you to run for Dragon Aspect, not to woo maidens!
Ancagalon followed Kalecgos, also in human form, garbed in robes befitting a middle-aged nobleman, his square, rugged face radiating masculinity.
"Grandpa, I think Uncle Ancagalon is more suitable to be the Dragon Aspect of our Blue Dragon race. He looks like he can actually fight! As for the other uncle, I feel like I could take him!" A soft whisper drifted through the silent hall. Judging by its tone, it belonged to a young, gentle girl. Galen turned to see a high elf-like girl standing beside Senegos. Catching Galen's gaze, the girl seemed to realize her indiscretion, her delicate features flushing as she lowered her head. Senegos nodded to Galen, then gently touched his granddaughter's head, silently urging her to observe the ceremony quietly.
As the two candidates arrived, the former Blue Dragon King, Malygos, emerged, his transformed form a high elf. The humanoid forms adopted by dragons often reflected their initial interactions with mortal races. During the War of the Ancients, the night elves were the dominant mortal power, so their likeness remained a common choice for many dragons' illusions. Later, with the emergence of the high elves, a more refined and magically attuned offshoot of the night elves, many Blue and Bronze Dragons favored their appearance. With the rise of the Alliance, some Black Dragons adopted human forms. Of course, certain dragons harbored more unusual preferences, such as Chromie's fondness for gnomish forms, a predilection shared by the Blue Dragon Prince Arygos.
Malygos approached the center of the platform, which seemed to float amidst the starlit expanse. "Members of the Blue Dragonflight, Dragon Guardians, today we gather to elect the new Blue Dragon King, the Spellweaver of the Dragon Guardians!"
"This starry sky is the purest manifestation of magic. Within this magic-forged expanse lie secrets unique to the Blue Dragonflight. Only those born with the inherent power of magic can decipher the mysteries hidden within these stars. This unique inheritance is the tradition of our flight!"
"The Titans still walk the currents of the cosmos. The guardians they left behind, through special celestial alignments, pass their potent Titan-inherited power to the five Dragon Guardians."
"Today, at the moment of the Twin Moons' Embrace, the new Blue Dragon King will inherit this power!
