Vidra and Lune followed Dino as they left the training field. Dino told the students to stay until the end of the class. He took Vidra and Lune into one of the houses made for the more distinguished spectators.
"I've brought you two here because information regarding trait holders is supposed to remain a secret. I'm unsure if we have anything other countries don't know by now, but rules are rules."
"Now sit on the bed beside each other. Time is tight, but I'll explain how to handle your trait. First off, close your eyes and activate it."
The two students did as they were told. Lune activated her trait first. The crescent moon on her forehead radiated a weak white light, and the dark room became brighter. Vidra followed up.
The red mark on the back of his hand brightened with a red light. The temperature rose around his body, making Lune move further away. Dino nodded once he confirmed that both students had properly activated their trait.
"Good, now close your eyes and listen closely. There is one thing I want to make clear first. I don't know how to improve the strength of your trait. Trait holders are fundamentally different from normal mages."
"Normal mages learn spells, and they learn as many as they can. They can also absorb mana in various ways. Trait holders, on the other hand, have a much harder time. They can either buy expensive elemental stones to improve their trait or figure out the hidden condition that triggers their improvement."
"This is why it is entirely up to you how you can improve your trait. However, you will need more than that if you want to surpass mages. They can augment their speed, power, and their surroundings, shoot projectiles, and cast defensive walls. The possibilities are endless."
"Today, I'm going to help you learn how to use your trait to its fullest potential. The amount of mana you have is entirely up to you. However, the amount doesn't matter as long as you can't even control what you have."
"Trait holders don't need to chant if they want to use a specific spell. They can just use their traits. Now, I want you two to reach the maximum output of your trait, then return it to normal.
Dino stood back, knowing that Vidra was about to turn up the heat. The room was engulfed in a white, almost hot light for a few seconds as both of them activated their traits at the same time.
"I want you two to feel what happens when you manipulate your trait. Where does all that power come from, and where does it travel? Find this out by using your trait as many times as possible."
"Eventually, you'll be able to use your trait as a proper weapon, similar to how normal mages use their spells to defend and attack. It will take time, but trait holders are usually much more efficient compared to normal mages once they learn how to control themselves."
"This is the end of the class. Open your eyes and go. Tell your classmates to go with you to the next class."
Vidra and Lune left the room and walked back to the training field together. There was nothing but silence as they walked. Vidra had something on his mind.
"Lune, I've been wondering. How come you can barely use your trait just like me? Aren't you supposed to be the only disciple of the oh so great White Witch?"
Lune stood still for a moment, seemingly contemplating how she should answer.
"My teacher never helped me understand my trait. It took me years just to learn how to activate it. She said that there was nothing to teach about traits, as all trait holders will figure it out on their own."
Lune turned towards Vidra after answering his question. Expecting him to say something outrageous and annoying, but he remained silent. Vidra remembered the day he received his trait, and the long, boring years he spent trying to figure out how it worked. Lune looked at him, wondering:
'So he has a side like this.'
MEANWHILE IN THE SPECTATORS' ROOM:
Dino looked at the bed where the two trait holders used their powers not long ago with glowing eyes. His eyes were mostly focused on the spot where Vidra sat a few seconds ago.
'I never saw mana particles behave like this before. They're acting like rabid dogs attacking everything in their path. This could be dangerous.'
Dino left the room after analyzing the mana particles left behind by the two trait holders and quickly started walking towards the main building of the academy. It was time to report to the headmaster.
STUDENT'S POV:
Lune told her classmates that they were free to go to their next class. The only problem was that they didn't know what their next class was supposed to be.
"Haaa, I'll go and ask someone who might know. I will also try to speak with Teacher Mort. We'll be late for all of our classes at this rate."
Lune quickly found the teacher's office. It was located right near the entrance of the main building. This was her second time visiting the giant castle. Surprisingly, the door opened as soon as she was about to knock.
Teacher Mort looked at Lune with his eyes half closed from tiredness.
"Hmm, you're a familiar face. Who are you again?"
"You can't be serious! I'm the president of your class... You appointed me because... You didn't want to do anything with us."
Lune replied, almost shouting. She glared at Mort like he was a kid who got scolded by his mother.
"Oh, right, what was your name again? Lube?"
Lune couldn't take it any longer and barged into the teacher's office. Completely ignoring Mort. She quickly made his way towards the person who seemed to be the highest standing member in the room and made her complaint.
However, the reply she received was anything but satisfactory.
"He might look like an idiot sometimes, but Mort was chosen to handle your class for a reason. The headmaster has personally chosen him. I don't understand, but apparently, he is a great teacher once someone manages to tame him. This is all I can say."
"Oh, also, your next class is spell theory. It is in your main classroom where you first met with teacher Mort. I will give you a class schedule so you don't miss any of them in the future."
Lune walked back to her class with new information in her hands. She at least felt a little better knowing that Mort was probably not as useless as he looked from the outside.
Her mood hit rock bottom once again when her classmates started shouting at her as she got closer.
"Class President, please stop them! They don't listen to us."
